+al 65 Out of the 23 Players on the Brazilian national team 18 have Portuguese surnames. The remaining 5.....3 German surnames and 2 Italian surnames. This is how it is throughout MOST OF BRAZIL. The Portuguese last names dominate. How can you even attempt to refute this without any evidence my friend?? What you are arguing is akin to saying Mexican last names (or any other hispanic country) are not predominantly Spanish in origin. All I'm saying is that MOST of the surnames in Brazil are Portuguese in origin. Yet you say no with no evidence. Everything I've looked up just now says otherwise. Not to mention I've grown up and was raised around both Portuguese and Brazilians my whole life. The predominant influence in regards to Brazilian surnames is Portuguese. There's no arguing this. It's fact.
+al 65 Did you bother to read what I wrote? It was even direct from Wikipedia. Buddy I am both Portuguese AND Brazilian and can tell you your so called facts and figures are just plain wrong. Of course you can't site them because they're just what you THINK and not what actually IS. No one's claiming Brazil didn't have other European immigrants. However, the fact remains the Portuguese influence was and still is the predominant influence from outside of Brazil.
+FREEDOMIST617 check Brazilian sites about migrations from Europe , ask google things like how many: " How many Brazilians of Portuguese ancestry" , etc. You are using a computer aren't you? Use it ! You have the Wikipedia and you will find thousands of other sites but they will all tell you the same.
+al 65 From Wikipedia (just a quick source, I know not the best source but not terrible either)Many Portuguese who had a significant importance in Brazilian culture are known in Brazil as Brazilian. In this way, much of the Portuguese people's influence and contribution has been systematically erased from the Brazilian culture[citation needed]. Tomás Antônio Gonzaga, Padre António Vieira, Carmen Miranda are some of the Portuguese who are presented as Brazilians. The Brazilian culture is in large part derived from thePortuguese culture and the similarities between both cultures and the relatively easy integration of immigrants in Brazil, make it nearly impossible for some to keep a separate Portuguese identity.
+al 65 Consider this:Most Brazilians have some degree of Portuguese ancestry: some descend from colonial settlers, while others have recent immigrant Portuguese origin, dating back to anywhere between the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. Due to "miscegenation", Brazilians of different "races" may have Portuguese ancestry:Whites, Blacks, Amerindians and people of mixed race.[3]There are no reliable figures for how many Brazilians descend from the Portuguese. This is mainly because the Portuguese presence in Brazil is very old, making it almost impossible to find correct numbers even though most Brazilians have Portuguese ancestry. In 1872, there were 3.7 million Whites in Brazil (the vast majority of them of Portuguese ancestry), 4.1 million mixed-race people (mostly of Portuguese-Amerindian-African ancestry) and 1.9 million Blacks (some of whom probably had some degree of Portuguese ancestry). These numbers give the percentage of 80% of people with total or partial Portuguese ancestry in Brazil in the 1870s.[38] At that time, the Portuguese were the only Europeans to settle Brazil in large numbers, since other groups (notably Italians) only started arriving in large numbers after 1875.In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a new large wave of immigrants from Portugal arrived. From 1881 to 1991, over 1.5 million Portuguese immigrated to Brazil. In 1906, for example, there were 133,393 Portuguese-born people living in Rio de Janeiro, comprising 16% of the city's population. Rio is still today considered the largest "Portuguese city" outside of Portugal itself.
+al 65 Where is your proof? They speak Portuguese and Portuguese surnames are the most popular in Brazil. The food is heavily influenced by Portuguese too.....This is common knowledge. The national dish feijoada came from........Portugal. I don't know where you're getting your figures from. Can you post links? Almost ALL of the Brazilians I know and my family as well have Portuguese surnames. I know exactly why they have the surnames. Of course there have been other immigrants such as Germans and Italians to Brazil. Just look at the Brazilian national soccer team. They almost ALL have Portuguese surnames.
+FREEDOMIST617 Think a bit mate! Brazil became independent in 1822 and at that time Portugal only 3 million inhabitants living not only in Portugal and Brazil but all over the empire. During the early 20th century a lot of Portuguese migrated to Brazil and in total they were 650 000, the Italians alone were 1200.000 not to mention Germans, Ucranians, etc . 80% of the Brazilians are 160 millions souls how could 650 000 become 160 millions in 200 years. 5 million Brazilian are entitled to Portuguese nationality and 30 millions to the Italian ( Keep in mind that Germans, Spaniards, etc also moved to Brazil between 1860 and 1920). There are less Brazilians of Portuguese ancestry than of Italian , German, Spanish, etc. Why do they have Portuguese names ? For the same reason that Afro-Americans have names like "John Smith" and not like "Kunta Kinta". Please do not tell me that 80% of the North Americans and Canadians descend from the English just because England it is their former colonial power.
+riotagus The US and UK are both extremely corrupt and selfish. We're talking about Europe so why would you bring America up all while questioning why I brought up another European country? Jeez at least im on the same continent! Lol Glad it only took 3-4 times to answer your question as I told you that if it wasn't you who brought up Italy that I apologized. Did you not read my comment saying that? The UK was one of the main pushers of the EU yet refused to adopt the Euro as currency. That alone should have been enough for all the other countries to question the motives behind the UK and it's push for an EU....(Here's a secret it has to do with banks and certain British banking families).....Anyways, have a good day dude! :p Peace out!
First i'm not a dude , second, i did not say anything about Italy, third, the United Kingdom is trying to get out of that shit hole of EU that is full of corruption, fourth, what do you know about the UK, ? fifth, look a bit closer to home ( USA ) and see how much corruption is there in that selfish country. By the way, have a nice day . Over and out .
+riotagus Dude, I answered you three times. I brought up the UK because either you or the other guy said Italy was the biggest criminals in the EU. You must not know anything about the UK and it's banking cartel, Rothschild family, and the UK pressured for the EU yet wouldn't get rid of the pound for the euro....I could go in and on. Italy isn't the biggest criminal. Now, I'm still waiting as to why you say Italy is worst.
Well said but, still you haven't explain what as the UK and Italy , have to do with with this conversation and this thing of being the biggest criminal countries in EU ?!
+riotagus In any community those who speak the same language gravitate towards one another. There will always be a connection between Portugal and Brazil because of the language and history. Make the Luso/Portuguese speaking community stronger by inclusion not seclusion. Here in Boston MA us Portuguese and Brazilians live side by side in the same neighborhoods. It's all love for the most part. It's the older Portuguese people who are usually prejudiced. I preach unity with our Portuguese speaking Brazilian cousins. You preach division. If Brazilians want to march in a Portugal Day parade we should say "sure" and "thank you". The world needs more love and unity not more fighting and division. We have enough of that already.
+Camilla Morais I agree with most of what you said Camilla (and you're beautiful by the way). The Spaniards did the same to the colonies they had too........but there comes a time where we must look in the mirror and accept personal responsibility for our lives NOW......I fully understand and agree that the systems in place are corrupt, catering to a certain demographic. Some people are just plain ignorant. Unfortunately a lot of the older Portuguese are exactly that. I've been around them my whole life. They're very hard workers but have very little education most of the time. However there's always an exception to the rule. Let's be honest here. It sucks and is embarrassing because I truly do love my people. This whole Portugal vs Brazil thing has to stop. Both countries and people are great (not without problems of course). I for one LOVE to see the Brazilian women liven things up a bit and move their BEAUTIFUL bodies to the music. What man wouldn't? This guy whos talking shit is probably an old viado panleiro or something. Thats why the younger Portuguese generation wants nothing to do with the culture and feels shunned. It's a shame really. Old traditions can live on next to the new trends. But nope! The old Portuguese party poopers ALWAYS have something negative to say. ALWAYS. Anytime something other than what the old traditional Portuguese norm is many of the older ones cant handle it. It's 2016 for God's sake! Jeez! The younger generation likes dancing, dance music, and hip hop etc....Brazil offers more of modern things the younger generation likes without the old judgemental attitude of the old Portuguese prudes. It's a shame because there is great Portuguese music and dance of all genres. Im both Portuguese and Brazilian (more Portuguese. My family is from Sao Miguel Azores and Lisbon, Portugal. My Grandfather's mother was from Brazil). Me? Well I was made in America with Portuguese/Brazilian parts and labor......
+riotagus Explain how Italy is. It has to do with calling Italy the biggest criminals in the EU when it's the UK....and the correct term is favelas for the slums in Brazil.
+al 65 What ridiculous statements. Yes India helped make Portugal a rich world power. The rest is just nonsense. Sorry. I am both Portuguese and Brazilian. Most Brazilians have Portuguese last names. I'd say 80% of the Brazilians I know have Portuguese last names and I may be underestimating. As far as the biggest criminals in the EU?? Its the UK easily.
+Camilla Morais You are wrong , it was India and the spices trade that made Portugal rich. Portugal discovered Brazil and did not care about it for 30 years because there was nothing of value they could get from there, there was and still there is more gold and precious stones in Africa then in Brazil and Portugal and the U.K had colonies there.India made both Portugal and the U.K rich not any other colonies. The irony it is that the spices of our days are fossil fuels( petrol and coal) and Africa has more then Brazil. Brazil does not have resources to make itself rich today how could it ever made any other nation rich.In today's Brasil, in one day ,more gold and precious stones are extracted then in all the 300 years that the Portuguese were there and it is not enough to give all the Brazilians a plate of rice and beans.Israel and the Jewish holocaust are the part of German history that the German people want's to forget , Brazil is the part of Portuguese history that they forgot.Brazil today is more Italian then Portuguese and we all know that. Which is the most violent and corrupt country of the European Union? ITALY. Most of the Brazilians have Italians names. GOT THE MESSAGE MATE!!!
+Camilla MoraisOh shit! Not another one suffering with a inferiority complex ! Some of you just keep on,and on, and on, about what that little country of Portugal that ( Discover ) Brazil. They toke this, they toke that , they toke everything, and that's why my country ( your country) is the way it is now . What a load of rubbish ! YOUR country is in that situation because of the corruption that goes on in YOUR country ! Nothing more . As far as i know , Brazil is suppose to be a very rich country , is it not ? and yet 65 % of he population live in slams ( favelas ) ! Uhmmm ,..... explain that to me them....... oh , i see , it is the Portuguese fault again , right ?You have had nearly 200 years since Brazil became independent from that little Country that gave you they language ( which some of you can't even speak it properly ) to sort out your corruption, and what as England to do with this conversation anyway ?Correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe that Portugal had ( as ) an alliance with England ,loooooogg before Brazil came along ( 1373 Treaty of Windsor ). ( Brazil Discovery 1500 )By the way, stop insulting my intelligence by calling me dumb, as it takes one to know one , because if you decide to go down that way , then two can play that game, little girl .BY THE WAY .. I'M BRITISH !
+riotagus You're actually dumb if you don't know that the "discovery" of Brazil was one of the greatest accomplishments in Portuguese history! The gold rush allowed the portuguese to strengthen their alliance with England and extracted so much gold and diamonds from Brazil which enriched the Portuguese crown! Dom Joao V, wasthe most absolutist monarch in Europe because of Brazilian gold. Maybe you should go study before saying some stupid shit like, "I don't remember Camoes being Brazilian" think outside the box. Brazil is a huge part of Portuguese history, damn right there should be Brazilian music.
+al 65 Unfortunately Brazil is faced with a lot of crime and corruption! Its mainly rooted in their founding fathers who arrived there and depleted all the resources and left the people in major poverty!
So do I. Eu odeio nudez pública gratuita, seja por comemoração, seja por quaisquer outros motivos. I hate public nudity at every ocasion and reason. Eu odeio carnaval, apesar de não ser protestante nem puritano. I hate carnival and I'm not a puritan or a protestant. D'qualquer jeito, fiques bem.
+Augusto de Moraes Valente I do not hate Brazilian carnival but semi naked Brazilian women on a parade to commemorate Portugal's day it is like really odd !!! The Angolans were there and they looked very decent. Canada like Portugal as many ethnic groups, in any party of the peoples of Canada do you see semi naked women shaking their asses? Are you blind? No wonder the only people, till today , that Canadian politicians openly said that they want out of Canada is the Portuguese. What a fucking liberty in someone else's country!!!
I hate brazilian carnival but I don't know why I'm being called guilty about brazilians bad behaving. I'm not one of them and not their father. Se eu vos entendi mal, desculpa-me por tanto.
+Augusto de Moraes Valente I'm Portuguese from Portugal and can not understand why the Portuguese community in Canada is close to the Brazilian. Do they want to be associated with crime and prostitution? That's the way the Brazilian community is seen all over Europe. Next year will your party be sponsored by Islamic radicals? Are you idiots out of your mind? What does Portugal day as to do with naked Brazilian women? Aren't you a aware of the bad image that you are giving of yourselves? If i was the party organizer's wife I would follow him close cause is shagging one of those naked ivories for sure.
+riotagus It is Portugal Day, but because in Toronto, the Portuguese community and Brazilian community are close, some Brazilian people sponsor and participate in the parade, Its just a parade, if you want to sponsor and participate anyone can..
If that is the case, how come there is so much Brazilian music and stuff !!! The 10th of June in Portugal as far as i know, is Luis Vaz de Camoes day . Now, i don't remember him being Brazilian ! The 10th of June is a day of Portuguese celebration. It is just like American celebrating the 4th of July and playing English music ! It dose't make since.
