I have the exact same Samsung CD/DVD writer and I'm trying to burn some MP3 files onto a blank CD (on Macbook Air) but when I insert it it won't even allow me to select and drag the items to the CD. And when I open Disk Burning under System Information it says "no disc burning device was found." Could you please help me

+Oksana X what happens when you plug it in? make sure you have your macbook air connected to electricity when using the dvd burner since it probably won't work when you are running it from battery power

+Barry Jones it usually depends on your dvd player. not all dvd players can play avi , most usually need to be formatted properly. It all depends on what dvd player you have. This dvd reader for Mac can read any type of dvd without a problem. all you need is vlc player or quicktime to play any movie, however since this dvd reader is not the fastest, you might see some lag

I just bought it and I'm trying to install it but it's saying that I need a product code and I've looked everywhere for it. And everytime I've tried it just says "the product key that you typed in is incorrect. The product key is provided with your shipment." I have the problem that after the first restart of the system (when the list is completed on 1:40), the PC 'crashes' as the PC is no longer responding... It concerns a newly build PC with only new parts (Samsung 850EVO 250GB SSD) and with an original Windows 10 DVD. Any ideas on this?

+fvl089 Maybe your Windows 10 DVD is damaged. Download the official ISO from somewhere, make a bootable USB drive and try to install it from that.

Sorry for this very very late reply, there is only one power cable from the power supply that will fit your particular drive. If you are lucky, you might have a drive that supports Molex and SATA power cabling. If you would like to know more about these kinds of connectors, you may want to do a little bit of research. :)

Great video, very informative. Maybe add a bit about eliminating static electricity for anyone who doesn't already know? Some people might attempt this without knowing the importance of using a static eliminating wristband or special gloves, and end up frying a component inside their pc.

hey phillip I did all this with a blue ray drive I brought for my new windows 8 computer, how ever I cant get it to play, it has power and everything I just cant figure out why it wont play the blue ray disk, I downloaded the driver from the LG website and still nothing

You can have both installed at the same time but I doubt it would be powerful enough to even play a bluray. A 10 year old machine I would be considering an upgrade and retiring the old machine away as a backup or save it for another task. :)

Thanks! And it depends on your needs (as in if you need to burn them as well as play etc). Any Blu-Ray drive above 6x I would recommend, but it would be much better to get something that comes bundled with a Blu-Ray playing software.

Installation is a bit tricky for laptops, because there are so many variables. Manufacturers have different methods for keeping the drives installed in their laptop, I made that mistake with my last purchase.

@eranrule I'm not sure it depends on the brand of Blu-Ray drive you purchase, but you'll also need 3rd party software like PowerDVD or something else.
