Easy Hack: Make a Water Leak/Level Detector from a Smoke Alarm
I purchased a couple of inexpensive battery operated smoke alarms and made 2 water leak/level detectors for the price of one store bought water detector alarm.
DIYS, after further tests the high humidity in the closed tank caused false
alarms. I wired the smoke alarm into an old ballcock toilet tank water
control unit. Sealed it up with silicon and attached it to the standpipe.
Now have an actual watertight switch and no false alarms after one week.
Thanks DIYS, very good and simple instructions. Made one in 20 mins and
installed in an outdoor septic sump pump tank. Working great using 40' of
telephone wire. Time will tell if copper eventually corrodes and negatively
affects connectivity.
