Thanks.. A Brit boat.. Heavy!. My wife has a Romany, it is so heavy, I had to buy her a Thule Hullavator (~$475 from HumblePower). I paddle a 40lb wooden kayak.. big difference... Thanks for the video!

Depends what car you've got and where the roof bars have to be, mine are really far forward and can't do it like that, plus it weighs 30 kilos.

You ever have those moments that you sit there and rack your brain for what seems like forever, trying to figure out the solution to a seemingly complex problem, only to realize you're WAAAYYY overthinking it? That just happened to me... I've been trying to think of a cheap way to carry my boats on a trailer, as in not spending the ridiculous amount of money that Yakima is asking for their trailers. Thanks for posting this!

Ed....it would have been nice to see you actually load a canoe or kayak. Then, in comparison, you'd probably realize a simple bed extender is just as effective and less expensive.

I guess he should have bought a Truck then. Sort of hard putting a Bed Extender on his Car ? duh !!!

Greetings All, This video is meant as a sincere and truthful demonstration of a kayak loading method (one of two on my channel). I mentioned this before: 50 year old man, 49 pound, 14 foot kayak. The video is to HELP people, nothing more. I would appreciate that those with negative comments please keep them to yourself. I am sorry if I do not understand if you are trying to make a humorous comment. *** Learn more about lifting boats onto car as well as basic car topping skills and info for kayaks and canoes at the Top Kayaker web site address listed at the end of the video.*** Tom

That is a 50 year old man in the video. The kayak is an Ocean Kayak Scupper Classic fourteen feet (circa 1997) weight of this sit-on-top kayak is 49 pounds (referance OK catalog). The kayak is plastic. Some kayaks are easy to grasp, others are not. Note the use of the legs in lifting and resting on the thighs for a momet. This a small part of a much larger story at Top Kayaker.

Spent hours constructing a PVC roller that sits atop the back of my Honda Element, put serious scratches in the car roof, spend too much time getting the kayak atop car from rear. Always dread doing this. Your side-lift method looks like a much better solution. Many thanks, I'll try it tomorrow.

Nice video, shows how easy it is. I'm a bit disabled, have huge problems with walking, but I load my yak, which weights almost 60lb (28kgs) without any problems, using this method. It is easy, just find the centre of weight on the yak, than it is straightforward.
https://gp5.googleusercontent.com/-QD_8MOR76K4/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/quYyHPbveNg/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
dude... u flicked the boat over ur head to load it on the vehicle... thats great but... say after a 10 hour trip, u'll be on the floor attempting that... and scene.
https://gp4.googleusercontent.com/-j1ups9_Upvk/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/_qarpoetzBA/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
I'd be curious to know how much that kayak weighs. There are plenty of ultra-lite yaks out there, like the WS Tarpon 120 UL, that only weighs 45 lbs.

Nice video if your young and fit. However, for a woman passed the age of 25 this video doesn't help. Plus, the lifting is bad for anyone's back.
https://gp5.googleusercontent.com/-RMt6BUhZ_Ag/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/sYtrBO5C3ok/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
Mmm'kay. It looks soo easy. Why do people bother with all kinds of equipments and installations to do that?
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
LOL, yeah right, My kayak is about 80 lbs as well. I'm fairly strong and definately can't do that.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-VOYIHXw3xyI/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAEZc/LU9o5L6CCjg/photo.jpg?sz=64
My fishing yak weights about 85lbs. I don't think I'll be flipping that up over my head too often.
https://gp3.googleusercontent.com/-810Llc5J3O8/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/McTThR5ixic/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
but you're tall enough to just do this... what if you are short and the car is tall! not so easy.
https://gp6.googleusercontent.com/-O0cF_Rr3y5s/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4SpNJ0qMR00/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
not even bad for my back...i couldn't do that even if i was under 25.
