Bugged about my Bug Out Vehicle Options - Pickup Truck or SUV?
Scratching my head here on bug out vehicle options for emergency bugging out situations. You never know when you might have to abandon Dodge and hit the ...
Look, if there is gunfire, the last thing you should be worried about is
your pets! Unless, your dog is trained or trainable you have no valid
reason to risk your life for pets. Sure save them if you can but if it's
life or death, pets are not the priority. I love animals but we Americans
have somehow gone anal about our pets! Some of us value pets more than our
fellow man and that's just insane! Human life is much more precious and our
first priority should be to preserve human life. I would take my pet dog to
help me hunt or potentially fight off an attack. I would use my pet birds
as a food source. I was fortunate enough to be born in Eastern Europe and
that has really given me a wider understanding of the world... Back to the
video, most SUV's today are more cars than trucks thus a proper 4x4 truck
is usually a better bug our vehicle. I would go with a crew cab truck and
throw a roof over the bed to store supplies. I would also go with a 6
cylinder diesel or a Tacoma.
People choose Pickups because they are less to roll over &they can carry
full Campers In the bed of the truck. So when the Engine is breaks in their
truck they can back another truck in behind the Full Camper with the truck
bed and they're not married to that one engine when SHTF. Full Campers with
bathroom shower 4 longer term hideouts is why they pick trucks. Make sure
if you do get Full Size Camper witth Pickup its a 3/4 ton the 1/2 ton
pickup axles. cant handle the stress and abuse long trm.
What vehicle makes more sense 99% of the time? The one with better gas
mileage, the car you want to be driving daily... etc. Then factor in the 1%
bug out scenario - how much stuff do you have, do you want it to be exposed
to the elements, can it get you where you need to go if there is a traffic
jam? etc. I have an SUV - because in my 99% scenario it makes more sense on
a daily basis, but it can still fit all my bug-out equip and pets inside
should I need it, is AWD, and gets decent gas mileage
vans are not practical because the military or armed thug looters in shtf
will have roads blocked during martial law. 4 wheelers are awesome you can
even take ramps and roll them on the top of your suv. lol Great idea
because they use less gas. Electric bikes wont work well because electrical
componets will have to be protected from water. they only go 30 miles even
with solar panels. still better to do that then wasting all your energy
walking. Small Boat on top of suv would be good idea too.
For your situation a Suv 4x4 Jeep cherokee Jeep Wrangler Xterra Nissan
PathFinder would be better for you. Pick ups are for guys with cargo and
campershell. Suv would be more suited for women because they have 4x4 &Full
Enclosed from elements. I would go with suv if was you. Pickups are for
guys that can carry campershell with tent awning to sleep in. Pickup=More
Cargo Period. Suv Provides More Comfort. None of them will Withstand
Bullets !! lol. Telephone books Is Good BPruf Material Though.
obviously bugging out is a last resort and all other preps should be done
prior to working on bugging out. Lets assume it has gone very bad and your
neiborhood is no longer safe. you may need to travel some fair distance
without refueling.you need a place to sleep, stay warm and hide. my
suggestion would be a crossover pulling a small pop up trailer. the
supplies you bring with you would be very limited and you may need to "live
off the land" I have a big diesel truck with a camper- not ideal
Yes, one of the pro's about pick up trucks is the their ability to go
through different terrains but aside from that I go with the SUV which is
why I own one now and I know the weight it can handle, how long it would
take me to load it and I still am left with room for at least three more
passengers [and that is with one of the seats flatten] which for you would
be your pets I assume. They are also a decent height so you know if you
have to run over a zombie or two you can do with ease :D
Just think about it any newer vehicle you have to hook it up to a computer
to figure out what's wrong with it and half the parts have to be shipped
over seas but older American cars are everywhere no computers and will tell
you what's wrong with it before it brakes my suburban has a 350 in it with
over 1 million miles on it without a rebuild you don't get that anymore
these days unless its a diesel engine and even then I've only seen the
cummins these days stay strong for that long.
Another thing to remember is the quality of the gas most modern engines
diesel or gas don't like dirty or old gas and that's pretty much what your
going to have after a while in abandoned vehicles and stations. Another
thing to think about is mileage diesel get far better then gas and if need
be you can stop at an old restaurant and use the cooking oil just filter it
first and what most people don't know is that every transformer you see on
a telephone poll has vegi oil in them
Dear healthy prepper don't listen to the ones who say trucks are for guys
and sun for women this is the 21 century and there from the dark ages. Now
both trucks and sun are good but even if you don't carry allot of weight
you should still go with 3/4 ton or higher because they are built to work.
Not all 3/4 ton vehicles are true 3/4 ton stick with the ones that have 8
lug rims. Now another thing you need to think about that i have yet to see
is how easy they are to work on.
Have you decided on your year make model of your bugout ride? I have a
truck now with campershell with v8 I have set my eyes on suv or 4 door
truck both being 4.0 v6 cylinder for better gas mileage. I'm leaning more
toward suv though so much that's probally. What I will get. I'm looking at
all 4x4s, Jeep Cherokee and Toyota 4 runner or Nissan pathfinder Ford
explorer Chevy Tahoe or Yukon. Nissan xterra also. I need to upgrade my bug
out vehicle lol.
