I don't know what Fred armisen said but I'm glad he mentioned this. this is my favorite comedy sketch ever. Bob and David are crazy geniuses, as are the whole cast like jay Johnston here (I believe he wrote this one)

I don't know.  I'm still not seeing it as a joke or funny.  he's a supposedly great man and he falls over backwards and knocks down the shelves with her collection of whatever -- so what?has the taste of the American people in humor changed so much?  early SNL is still very funny for me, but the new stuff, for decades, is not.  slapstick is low humor, but this isn't even funny slapstick.when I was a young teen, the church that I belonged to put on "roadshows" every year that were written and performed by the kids themselves.  this seems to me about that good, or rather, bad.  but we were fifteen years old.  all of us took part. there was no winnowing for talent.we're a nation of 330 million people, and this thing was a national TV show, although a cable show.  SNL is the same. there has to be funny people out there.it's depressing, really.

i didn't mean to imply that i thought that you did.  i'm just saying that a downward spiral can descend so much deeper than hugging and kissing random classmates, and that i know that from sad, and humiliating, personal experience.

No. It's supposed to be a tragedy about the falling of a truly great man, reducing him down to a joke, like the downward spiral of someone who hugs and kisses all their classmates (out of love).
