Just wanted to share where and how I've been getting my dirt lately...and where I'll be getting more wood for rebuilding the camper that we've recently ...
Well now that I actually got to watch the video. I go out and get wood
chips and manure at the dairy about two miles away. I also have a little
shredder that I shred leaves with. I mix that with grass clippings, and
garden waste, kitchen scraps and there you have it. Great video +Wayne
Meador love the break from the regular programming :-)
+Wayne Meador i do everything that eric does plus pick up bagged leaves that people leave out beside the road and i have got rabbits for the poo and extra meat for the the freezer
It sure looks like you scored some great compost Wayne! Here in the tropics
we make our favorite compost mix out of manure, rice hulls, bio
char(carbon), liquid micro-organisms, pulverized rock and molasses. Thanks
for sharing!
Nice score on the compost and wood. The compost looked rich! I now prefer
making my own as much as possible using horse manure, kitchen scraps and
yard waste. There is a place near me that I can get 3/4 finished compost
for free up to 1 cubic meter and finished compost up to 1 cubic meter for
the equivalent of about $8. I get the 3/4 finished in fall and mix my own
compost with it which is full of worms in order to finish it for spring.
The problem is that in the last few years I've been finding a variety of
trash in the compost which leads me to wonder what is going into it. So I
want to get away from it asap. I have a piece of equipment coming,
hopefully this week, which should should make it possible for me to greatly
reduce my need to use this stuff. May also present the opportunity to make
a little cash on the side and/or barter. Will be making a video when it
gets here.
+Wayne Meador Yeah, been finding weird stuff in the compost. Got a rusted knife last year and several different types of plastics. Not just in the compost but also in bags of expensive "potting soil". Really have to wonder what else is going in there! The last several weeks my time has also been diverted. I've been remodeling our home and adding another bedroom. Just did a video today about it called "why no gardening videos lately". My daughter wanted a smaller room for some weird reason so we turned our "breakfast nook" into a bedroom for her, we are taking her old room and our bedroom will once again be a living room as it was originally intended. Will be great or me because I can now have my desk and planning area separate from my bedroom. Will make thinking much easier. Got many things on my mind to do but I desperately need my home better organized so I can think better. I'll go ahead and give you a heads up on the equipment coming. It's a chipper/shredder that will handle up to 8 centimeters diameter ( about 4 inches) of wood. We found a deal that was half off the price. Think it is a discontinued model but will still be able to get parts if necessary. We'll now be able to clear some of our property that I've let go. We also have friends who do yard work and tree pruning. Instead of taking their waste to the dump and paying they will pay us a bit less to take it plus we get the wood chips and compost. Don't know how to "tag". Maybe you could let me in on it.
+The Self Sufficient Life - That sounds like a good deal...until the trash got into it, humm....you're right about making your own thought for sure brother, I agree. Looking forward to what piece of equipment you're talking about! :) Make sure you tag me when you do a video on it...so I don't miss, please? I've been looking into doing my own compost, just dealing with the issue of "time" right now. I'm now diverted to working on a camper rebuild. :-/
