I'd compare yew to spruce, and more importantly, hemlock and fir, as those are what it most resembles.

And, yes, generally speaking, people here in the states are afraid to take responsibility for themselves and want to be told what is safe. Yew is quite toxic though, but it's not my responsibility to keep you from eating it.

+MiWilderness I've heard that when you make a bow, you want to use a big piece of wood so you can cut it into quarters and use the harder heart wood for the inside of the bow and use the softer more flexible outer portion for the outer portion of the bow. Not sure if this applies to yew. You might want to check on this before going through the work to make a bow.

+Chris Traub I've read the shavings and sawdust of yew can be irritating as well to the skin and lungs. Maybe one day I'll get the courage to taste the berries. nice work on the bow. I saved some staves or sections of cut yew for a bow, but have yet to get around to attempting making a bow with them. the wood has sat two years of heat, humidity, and frezzing temps in the tool shed and still has not checked or cracked in any way.

the red fruit is definitely edible and quite tasty from what i've read, but I've never ate them myself. Thanks again for all the info on yew.

Hi, deer will eat yew and it doesn`t harm them. Birds eat the berries and poop out the pit so it doesn`t harm them either. Something to think on. Check with your county agent for plants that are toxic to livestock to be sure. In any case, they probably won`t touch the dried stuff anyways. They would probably pose more of a fire hazard than anything else.

There is no question they are up to no good, or are they? Thanks for the info....but, these "sounds seem to happening on, or near fault lines all over the world.
