Shopping at People Play Games is never a very pleasant experience. Last
time I went I bought 5 or 6 really nice complete in box NES games and the
guy behind the counter finally warmed up after I talked to him for 10
minutes....but usually their customer service sucks. I collect comics as
well, so I guess I am just immune to the whole having to ask to look at
stuff thing. I ask to see what I want to see and if the staff doesn't like
it I really don't give a shit. It's their job, and if they don't want to
have to unlock cases or reach high shelves all day they should organize the
store differently.
If you need to ask for basic customer service from an employee at any store, either that employee needs to be shitcanned or that store needs to get the fuck out of the business.
I completely fill your pain on this store. I am avid game collector/player
and always look up stores when I am traveling to a new area. I stumbled
across PPG while heading on a trip to Chicago. I was amazed; as most are
when entering. My first trip I came under prepared, as a lot of other
activities were planned, and a ton of taxi/walking; so my haul was light.
On second and third trip the same mistake was not made. On the 2nd I
dropped around 200, and felt like the owner could care less, as I wanted to
also look through every game I couldn't reach myself (he looked annoyed).
Thinking maybe the shop was having a bad day I decided to return. On trip 3
I spent around 350 on all kinds of stuff, the kicker was I had purchased a
snes Soul Blazer from his case. It came with a nice plastic outer box and a
price 0f 109 for the complete game. He took my cash and then took the game
out of its protective sleeve it was in. I asked kindly if I could have the
protective sleeve as I had just spent (what I felt was a ton of cash) on
the game. The owner was dumbfounded and looked at me as if I was trying to
steal from him. I have not been back since, which is a shame because as a
collector of games, cd's, vinyl and cards and just about anything else
which tickles my pickle, I love these resale shops that supply my cravings.
With this much love comes frustration when I feel like a shop betrays my
trust. It happened recently at another record store where an item was
marked incorrectly, and the owner refused to honor the price. I told the
owner that he had around 120 dollars in vinyl that I wanted and he just
lost the sale over 7 dollars. It's a shame really when people are willing
to part with hard earned cash and can't receive any slack from said owners
of these shops. With out us, the consumer there is no incoming inventory or
incoming cash, it would seem wise to me that resale owners always remember
this.
I was just at the Hoffman Estates Disc Replay a couple days ago. Almost
every Game Boy and DS game had a price sticker stuck right on the label.
Since thats what I go there for mostly I can cross them off my list of game
stores. Your rant was right on. If brick and mortar stores don't want too
play nice I'll just keep my eyes glued to the internet for my game
purchasing needs.
right on my friend! why wast the gas money when you can have it delivered for the same price. i try to support the local economy but they make it so hard.

Resellers Rant Craigslist Edition
Hey Guys today I talk about Resellers and how they are running craigslist. Not all resellers are like this, this is just what I experience and you may be totally ...

Okchief420's Resellers Rant
I rant about some shitty resellers. Note I'm not talking about all resellers! To help support the show please buy an Okchief420 T-Shirt Don't forget to #adaptme!
I think the worse examples people like the game chasers, pat the nes punk,
the game hunter, etc that pay almost nothing for old ass games then believe
they can flip it and get double or even triple the money back for what THEY
think it's worth not according to actual value based on the time it's been
out and used multiple times. These guy are the default definition of the
ASS resellers. They based ebay (which is technically NOT a market) prices
of retro games from the 80s and 90s shouldn't ever ever ever value over
100$ because one they are old, they used (or preowned to sound legally),
there is a good chance that cart based will eventually die in time and
whoever says different obviously don't think bout atari games, so classic
and tech is so primitive who would even in this day and age that isn't over
30 or equivalent to a that of a old dad would take time pay 5 bucks for a
old Atari cart when in reality they only worth bout 50 cents to 1.00 max.
And let's not forget good old nes n64 and snes carts 3 prime examples of
how greedy resellers make their unneeded dough. They will take (for
example) 3 games - 1 is a ip game mario or zelda, one is a regular game
like bomber man or top gear, 1 is some game that no one cares about;
because of unnecessary praise, ratings + market value = big money, however
take the regular games that's not a ip or didn't get hyped or praised as
much and u can pay bout a average 10 to 24 dollars, then take the games no
one gives a shit bout and price under 10 (trying to get rid it price).
Chrono trigger is another example once upon a time u get for average 40 to
30 suddenly over time 90-120 fucking holy balls.
I feel you bro, I made a big mistake dealing with a shady game store owner
for some N64 games. I wanted to get back to playing N64 but the games where
too high so I decided to trade my arcade fighting stick,Kinect, and +50
ps2/ps3/360 games and all the guy gave me was $80 store credit.. I had no
choose to take it because I drove 1hr and didnt want to be dissapointed.
These resellers are fckin annoying. Seen them on flea markets, garage
sales, thrift stores and they come early to pick the good games. I actually
stop going to those places because its a waste of time. Also when they
resell the game they bought for $5 to $50, its just insane. I understand
ebay selling high because you can get a refund but Im not taking any chance
buying from a smart ass virgin from CL whose selling conkers for $60 and
50/50 chance it will wrk.. Fck them, if this is the future for retro gamers
and collectors then Im out, rather spend my time doin something else.
i just started collecting games that i enjoyed as a kid again there is a
reseller at my local flea market i like that sells games like 3 genesis
games for $10, 3 n64/snes games for $15 and other bundled prices for nes,
ps2 and ps1 games i cant remember not the best games but it doesn't bother
me what sucks though is that you cant ask him specifically for anything or
he will assume what you want is rare and raise the price by alot i bought a
Pokemon stadium transfer pak from him for $5 went back later to get one for
my friend asked for one and he said $14 because they're rare meanwhile it
was in the 3 for $15 bin like last time just buried under everything he's
actually a very nice guy he told me he's got a shop at a mall and is set up
at the flea to get rid of some old inventory i just sometimes avoid him now
cause he thinks im a big collector and raises prices on me even though he
has them marked at a certain price
Chief I love your videos and respect your opinion on this matter because my
local game shop(vacs&videos don't know if there are any in texas)does this
pricing bullshit on occasion, they do still do cosmetical discounts too so
thats where they've kept my respect i bought a golden holo majoras mask
cart for 25 dollars because there was a scratch in the holograph and
another was worth twenty because it was damaged pretty bad, just telling you
there are still some redemption to these old game stores:)
That's how Gamestrop is also !! I went a few days ago and traded
Battlefield 3 for the Xbox 360 cause I also have it for PS3.And the guy
checks my game to see if it has scratches and I told him dude I take care
of my games, when they sell games with scratches and finger prints on them
when its the same employees who fuck them up putting them in envelopes and
touching them the wrong way! then he wanted to give me $8 for it when they
sell it for $29.99 used!! FUCK THAT!!! I left and gave them shit!
This kind of shit bothers me too. Worst part is, I live in a small town
about an hour and a half away from where Billy and Jay from Game Chasers
are, and this place is ALWAYS dry except for one of these jackass
resellers, so of course I try to save up for gas and go to flea markets and
shit in other towns. Only thing is, here recently, I've been getting chased
off by collectors who have apparently "claimed" the spots. As in, they
won't LET anyone else buy from there, even if they aren't. Really?
Calm down. Wasn't talking about big company game stores selling the games
and you buying them. I was talking about people at Garage sales not knowing
the value. So if you offer $5 for a game that's worth $100 and the seller
doesn't know what it's worth, and if a games company offers someone who
doesn't know the value, $5 for a game that's worth $100... There's no
difference, apart from it's a company and you're an individual. That person
is still missing out on the actual price of the game
Not gonna lie man, I totally thought this was going to be about those guys
on eBay who will try and sell games for like $300, when it's worth maybe
$80, only for you to find out it's just a half-scratched disc, while
they'll sell you the manual and case for $50 each. I'm glad you touched up
on that too, and I totally agree with the rant on those booth re-sellers.
One thing I've always believed in my years of semi-collecting is that good
games should be shared so you can spread the love.
I don't know about other places but there was a deal at my GameStop that if
you traded any kind of stuff towards specific new releases they added 30 %
extra store credit , and because I'm a pro rewards member thing I got
another 10 % store credit and there was also ANOTHER deal that if you
traded 3 games at a time they added a extra 10 % percent so I got gta v
preordered because of this for basically free . The games I traded in we're
crap . And like 20 dollars preordered towards bf4 .
We have a high priced reseller here in NL called Games XChange (not part of
the franchise) who charges ridiculous prices ($70 + Tax for Contra 3) and
they recently had to increase the price that they give for games as stock
just wasn't coming in....it is still low though. But I will say this the
guys there are willing to negotiate and I usually get games at
Pricecharting prices or below....I would rather support a reseller store
that has overhead than a dick out of his house same price
EBay should NOT be allowed to be a tool on how a reseller prices games.
There should be a website where all resellers have to use to price games.
People on Ebay over charge for games anymore. They think that because it
says Mario, Zelda, or Resident Evil that its instantly "Rare" Hell KOTOR is
selling for upwards of $40 on Ebay for the XBOX version!! My local pawnshop
has at least ten copies of it for $5, two of which I have purchased. Ebay
is ruining it for us collectors.
I have always said presentation is everything, would you buy a pristine ps
2 console or the dirty dingy one right next to it for the same price? you
would take the pristine one, I hate when pawns, retro stores, fleamarkets
ect sell there dirty crap at face value before they clean them up. clean
the stuff up first!!!! before you sell your stuff or if your not gonna
clean it up, at least discount the prices on the dirty dingy games right?
gosh I hate when the shops do that..
Chief things got out of control here for a few months with our local game
store pricing shit higher then ebay and amazon. We finally got fed up and
called them out on all their bs and lowballing and now for the most part
things have gotten better but the new problem is they take all the good
rare games they get and sell it online before offering it up to their local
customers. And I resell my doubles it's the only way I can get some games
and most collectors do the same.
Oh man, I know exactly what you are saying about the condition of games.
Just like you say, every copy of a game sold for the same price - one of
them in decent condition, the next one has the label 75% torn off. I
remember see an NES cart where a chunk of the corner had been broken off,
and it was still priced the same as a good copy. Makes no sense. -_- So,
just like you said, why should condition matter if they aren't going to
price based on condition?
Ebay as a source of pricing is great, just use past sales. It seems the
best pricing tool around. Current pricing of things not selling is not
useful though.Okchief what do you think a fair offer is in cash or trade
for items? 40 percent of value in trade or more? If you want a certain
price just say what you want, the store says yes or no. The seller sets the
price even if you are selling to the store. Rather it is bought or not is
another matter.
Yeah, because buying games isn't super expensive as is, finding games and
selling em to enhance your own collection should bring bad karma. Fuck off
buddy. If you honestly find an earthbound cart for 5 bucks and go, well i
allready have it i'll leave it for someone else, your a fuck'n moron. Sorry
man, but we live in a buying and selling market. If the seller thinks that
what they are asking is proper compensation it is. Fuck off bro.
spinbret, these resellers also go to flea markets and get in before
everyone else does and then buy up all the good and expensive games using a
price scanner and then a good chunk of them have the balls to then sell
those exact games at ebay level prices at the same market they bought them
from. also a good chunk of them are regulars and get in before everyone
else because they have a booth and buy up all the good stuff really cheap.
Be true, the same you and I can buy a game that dont worth they price (like
$1 buck for chrono trigger for snes) garage selling is the same way the
resellers want to give you in credit. The only difference here is that we
want to collect and they only want make money of it. So buddy, sell your
games on ebay/amazon or do locl trades, I have a webpage that the people is
really nice and do trade and stuff that you can check out too.
You sure got apprehensive and angry for someone who claims to be innocent
of the accused. On the last episode of game chasers the last person you
meant had doubles and triples of many games yet he stated right on camera
he wasn't a reseller. Next frame he is sitting with you at his laptop
looking at prices charts selling them at an inflated price since he bought
them. But he's not a reseller because he says he isn't.
Because you know the price of the item but they don't. The seller sets the
price because they are oblivious to what the item is worth. Going back to
the point, if the game store offers a low price for a game that's worth
shit loads that's deemed as 'conning' - But if a buyer offers a low price
for a game from a seller it's not conning? It's the same thing though, both
are unaware of the value, either way.
I love my city of Seattle and the surrounding areas but it's like that
around here. Not all stores, but a majority of em are. No one would want to
admit that but Truth is truth. I would've ranted in a more Professional
Manner than the words used here though. There's a way to get the point
across that makes a person think more, and being respected as well... I
feel tho, Ya know?
there's a guy in my small town that does this with games! He wanted $60 for
a old yellowed SNES with a 3 inch cut from the middle of the controller
ports (obviously owned by a dumb kid). It looked like they took a saw to
it. The guy will only give you like $2 for Zelda and Mario games, heck he's
selling Mario bros 3 for the NES for $20! loose cart horrible condition
fuck 'em....all the assholes that bitch about us complaining about
resellers are usually just resellers themselves. The same jerk-offs who sit
on 30 copies of earthbound at a time and then list them all on ebay for
$300 each thinking that will drive the value up. Once the market crashes
and old games aren't worth as much anymore they will all be fucked
I've become friends with a guy that runs a game shop and he told me he
never gives quotes over the phone. They say you have to bring it in because
price is based off condition just because it's harder for the customer to
say no when they are offered the money in their face. The whole thing about
condition is just a ruse to get the customer in the door.
I love people who watch one video and suddenly have a point of reference
for their statement lol! You obviously haven't seen any of my other videos.
I travel all over the country just like Billy and Jay dude and deal with
the same resellers everywhere. Stop talking like you know them on a
personal level too cause your simply talking out of your ass!
I feel you so hard bro, I recently got into collecting and I go into my
local retro game stores and their prices are all set, shitty condition, and
way more expensive than they should be. The assholes look on eBay, then
price HIGHER. I have no choice but use eBay. They had banjo kazooie for $20
and I saw some sucker buy it... Its a damn shame chief.
