Either ways, you should replace your entire pcv system if over 70k. Those parts deteriorate in time. I re used the couplers and cleaned them up of any oil since they were not broken. The 3mm or so lines I replaced with silicone ones instead of those shabby fragile polypropylene ones. If I recall, all it does is resend un combusted gases back to the engine but I guess it can suck in debri as well. Did it at 71k and my v6 engine was cleaned every month but the parts did not last over the years.

*UPDATE*: i had a cracked pcv hose on top of the engine that i replaced, $70.00 from vw! unbelievable. the noise has quited down a bit...however still noticiable there, im thinking i have another leaky pcv hose somewhere, just a guess.. to better describe the noise, it legit sounds like a nyc bus taking off from a stop, that loud woooshh noise, its almost exactly the same sound. im guessing either a leaky pcv hose or a vacuum line leaking. im gonna have to do more investigation.

blackttsupra320 - I have this same issue as you describe it with my 2003 Passat V6 30V 2.8 GLX 4-Motion Sedan. It's got 215,000 KM on it. Car's in the shop this morning and hopefully the problem is simply the fan clutch. I had actually kinda thought about that while checking it out last night because the noise seems to be a fan noise. Thank you for your post. It has helped me.

It is normal. When your engine is cold the radiator clutch does not run the radiator as fast as it does when your engine warm a little ;] .Stop worrying and take care.

you can hear the loud air blowing at the higher rpms...sounds like normal engine noise in the video, but is actually pretty loud in person

you can hear it pretty well on the first second and last rev in the video

ended up being the fan clutch

+Christian Müller Could be fuel pump related but you should have it checked out by a VW specialist.

+Deutsche Auto Parts how about suggesting a good h7 halogen bulb. Seeking a 5-6k temp color one. I'm not a big fan of the oem output.
