Are drivers being educated about the laws regarding turns in front of light
rail trains, right-of-way, etc.? It seems that when light rail came to
Houston, a lot of motorists seemed to be unaware of the laws of physics and
the fact that a light-rail vehicle and a car cannot occupy the same space
at the same time. An education program well in advance of the start of
service would seem to be in order to prepare everyone for the new traffic
challenges inherent in the opening of a light-rail system.
Real glad you posted this. We're only about 30 years late catching up to
the rest of the industrialized world in public transportation. Once most of
us can no longer drive our cars any time we want, America might start
waking up to the fact that we are living in the real world. We have three
huge resources in this country that are almost completely going to waste,
human brain power, human muscle power and all this "solid waste" going into
landfills.
While there have been some news coverage regarding your comment, PHX is
five months away from operations. I lived in Portland, Oregon when it
opened its second line and the city had problems with auto/train accidents
early on. The only way Portland fixed the frequency of accidents was to put
up "crossing bars" at certain intersections... I am honestly a little
surprised Phoenix hasn't considered "crossing bars." Does Houston have them?
Thank you for all three points about "waste." One of which, is my pet peeve
- muscle power. The farthest most people walk is from their couch to their
car (in the garage), then from their car to their office, then vis-a-versa.
I walk all the time because I don't want to end up in a wheel chair...
Wow, nice work. Light rail are awsome. How did you film? Did you put the
camera on the top of the car? Getting a light rail here in my hometown to,
Bergen, Norway. It's going to be complete in 2010. Can't wait.
Ah, ok. Lol, yeah, I can imagine it was an obstacle course. It feels like
it here to. But I guess it will be worth it. Can't wait to test this one
home. And maybe the one in phoenix if I ever get there.
