+9945223 You would have to capture the drivers face in order to incriminate that person or be able to accutately identify them. Legally you should be able to use the citizen arrest /citizen citation laws. You would pretty much just get all the info from the vehicle and be able to identify the driver and present the info to your local law enforcement office. It is likely a ton of work and time but possible.

I have seen these cheap cameras with horrible resolution and ones with decent like the ones I  got. 1080p is not great to begin with and only around 2 megapixels which is like taking a photo with the front camera on a cell phone. Since posting this I have watched a few videos from cameras that are a few hundred dollars and I would say the quality is very very close to the quality in this video. Here is a video with a 200 dollar Garmin https://youtu.be/DNvaWnxSf0c. It looks clear but you still have hard time reading license plates and signs at distance. That being said I think Walmart is horrible for the cheap electronics and have had nothing but bad luck with any that I have bought.Now if you decide to go the Amazon route make sure you get one through Prime as you will have effortless returns if you get a fake one. Amazon is comprised of a bunch of independent sellers and you're not always sure if your getting one from a good seller(the seller I bought 2 from no longer sells these). If you get one and it does not have an hdmi out port it is fake and return it.

+sixtyfiveford Walmart let me exchange the cheaper one for the next most expensive one ($39.97 to $67.98) and the video was even worse! It is the same brand, Pilot, and the more expensive one called the dual cam has the same lens and sensor but has a wider view 170 degrees making the video worse. Road signs with speed limits are barely readable when paused. So I brought that one back. So the choice is getting an expensive one that shows more detail when the video is paused (all moving videos from cheaper cams are blurry) or go the cheap rout. So I am going the cheap rout and ordering your suggested camera. If it has the same video quality of the $39.97 Pilot I will be happy, since it is 1/2 the price.

+Dasdfjkl The issue comes with storage of large video files. I watched a fair amount of 1080p videos on youtube from major brands of dashcams and you still have a hard time reading license plates with those. Some of these cheaper cameras do deceive you and just blow up the image size.

+SLO70 I have run it straight for 12+ hours in my motorhome while driving without issue but I think it should be shut off. I lucked out and all my vehicles have lighter plugs that shut off with the vehicle. I would just pull it out slightly every-time you shut off the vehicle to let it shut down. Or you could piggy back a lighter plug off the fuse block to a circuit that shuts off with the car.

+SLO70 These are low cost and don't have the best quality control. The majority will work but there will be duds and generally you'll know right away. If it is return it and buy another.

+SLO70 Try formatting the card. Of course formatting the card will delete any files you have on the card so save any pictures or files that are on the card that you want, first.
