Me presenting our check from Sam's Club, State College for Children's Miracle Network with the WTAJ news crew.
Sam's Club CEO -- Racist or Right?
Sam's Club CEO Rosalind Brewer drew charges of racism after she commented on diversity in the board room and with suppliers. Jimmy Dore breaks it down.
The reason this was even a story in the first place is because, most racist
whites heads explode when they find out something like - the CEO of Sam's
Club is ran buy a black person (period). It wouldn't have mattered what she
had to say about anything! They probably covered their children's eyes and
ears while viewing. Remember, these are the same type of people who are
disgusted when anyone but white people have and run everything.
It's funny because what the CEO said was not particularly controversial.
She basically said "diversity is good." But the rapid
I-swear-I'm-not-racist racists go ape shit over it.
+Cesar Delgado Probably because this double standard was not brought out from a vacuum. Pretending these issues don't have an intellectual and social heritage is just plain denial. This knee-jerk reaction to the CEO's banal, mom-approved statement is irrational. She didn't exactly charter into SJW/rad-fem territory. You guys are wading into the abyss.
why does race even have to come into it? just hire the best people you can
if there all black grand, same if they're white.
We're finally getting to a stage where racism isnt a thing but blacks
coming out insisting people hire a few token minorities is racism in itself
and just puts the cause back a few years
+I'M Running Thaangs There is definitely still White privilege, not just rich privilege. If those guys in Orefon threatening the police with guns and taking over a building had been Black, they'd have been shot on sight. The police are allowing them to get mail, which means that at least someone from their group has to leave their building, pick up their mail and go back in, and this person is not arrested. They guys aren't rich, just White. The recent hidden camera footage of the White woman having trouble with her bike lock and people coming over to help her, vs. a Black man an hour later having trouble with the same bike lock and people confronting him and threatening to call the police under the basic assumption that he was stealing it. The white woman is (presumably) not rich, just White. There were 6 arrests after the Cincinnati / Pittsburgh game on Saturday night, all White males. Mostly assaults. Twitter';s comments were littered with calling them "losers" and saying "that's what happens when you drink all day," etc. Basically no mention of race at all. There were, however, tons of jokes about "I bet Al Sharpton will be coming to Cincinnati to protest the league's discipline of its Black players after the game," something totally made up. Those people arrested aren't rich, just White.White privilege is so pervasive you don't even see it.
+Phenomenalist I guess that's very much a culture thing as well. I'm from Ireland where we wear considered a race equal to blacks for many centuries and in some cases we wear brought over to the Americas along side the blacks as slaves. For those reasons as an Irish person it's incredibly dumb t be racist against blacks so it's hard for me to understand. This seems like a subject id need a lot more then a few minutes of internet research to have any decant points in an argument so I won't try but if you have any interesting links to studys or information I would appreciate it :)
+I'M Running Thaangs the idea of implicit bias is that even people who explicitly disavow racism still have biases that shape the way they perceive and interact with persons of color. that's a real world racial bias that we know still exists in the west.
+Phenomenalist Not really, to be honest but i have heard about it and I agree that's something to be accounted for in certain places but the western world has definitely moved away from the traditional stereotype of blacks for the most part. We as a society have also developed a culture that fowns heavily on racism and peer pressure would have a much more conscious impact on a person.Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying racism doesn't exist, I know it does but combating racism with laws that gives advantages to a certain minorities is counter productive and in the long run will just inspire racism in non-minorities as they will see them as getting unfair advantages. Best thing in my opinion is to shun those who display racist behaviours and not do business with company's that do. When you look at real assholes of society it's easy to forget how far we've actually come as a whole.
There have been resume and housing tests that suggest otherwise, although i don't know the validity.I'm not taking sides, just playing devils advocate. I don't have enough study in the subject to form a sufficient opinion. .
I think it's awesome how driven she was. You never know what can happen.
Here I am, a part time associate at Sam's Club, inspired by the CEO of the
company. It's expected, but not because of why some would be inspired. Not
just because of the income that many would assume she brings in, but
because she was a mother that was striving. I'm not a woman. I'm a 22 year
old male, but I can appreciate someone that is striving for themselves, and
their family. Enjoyed watching this vid.
