Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Myrtle Beach SC Mixed Train Video
My ACL Mixed Train which ran into Myrtle Beach SC. This train has the Atlas purple schemed GP-7 followed by various freight cars plus a Baggage, Coach, and ...
The Naples branch in Florida saw mixed train service very similar to this!
I just ordered a Bachmann sound value GP-7 in ACL colors. They ran some
freight as well as a wood coach like yours with a pullman sleeper.
Yes the MDC roundhouse unit looks very similar to their wood coaches. Some of the mixed trains ran cabooses others ran just a coach or combine. But ours on the Myrtle Beach branch always ran with a Caboose. Hope you get your mixed train going. Take some video of it if you do.
I'm just up the road in Wilmington, and I model the ACL in N scale.
Whenever we would go to MB in the Summer I loved seeing the 501 drawbridge
on that track that leads to the station. It was so cool to see a bridge
that had a road and RR track on the same bridge. I was never lucky enough
to see a train on it though. I never knew about the MB mixed train, thanks
for sharing.
You are welcome. Yes passenger service through the mixed train ended in 1953. I have pictures on rail pictures .net of SCL locomotives at Myrtle Beach. We are excited here in Horry County since RJ Corman is buying the line. Maybe we will eventually see a dinner train or excursion from the Myrtle Beach Depot.
Would you happen to have any old track diagrams of the Myrtle Beach area
during the ACL years or know where I can find some? I'm doing some research
on the branch and beyond what I can see on Google Earth I have no idea how
many industries there were and how the track was laid out
You can go to Google Earth too look at earlier tracks. You may also go to the Horry County Court house and look at old plats of the Myrtle Beach area to show where the track ran. Also you may contact the ACL/SAL historical society on the internet to get copies of the old ACL maps. The tracks now end at Oak street. That occurred in the 30's. The tracks used to run all the way down 9th avenue to where the Pavilon was located. There was a turntable also at the corner of Hwy17 and 9th avenue. You can still see where the wye came into play. The wye used to extend way back to 10th avenue where there was also a loading area for Myrtle Beach Farms Corporation. The industries that were served in Myrtle Beach were the Air force base.(spur from the base to the base of hwy.501), A concrete plant on hwy. 501, Chapin Lumber Company, Myrtle Beach Lumber, Three Beer and Wine Distributers: Better Brands, Stevens Corporation and Schafer Corporation.
