I hate how everyone always hated matt (slim jesus) for having a joke for
grillo, hes a funny as fuck guy and the YouTube community being how it is
basically vetoed him off the show... to be completely honest, Matt would
have been awesome to have on hg as hes a sick guy and has lots to give to
the show I reckon. Don't understand how everyone bandwagoned the hate...
grillo is a fuckin savage now..

DIY miata 1.8 Swap Start
This video was uploaded from an Android phone. Take note the oil pressure gauge isn't working due to differences between the 1.6 and 1.8 sender. This is a ...
i did the same swap, but picked up the throttlebody adapter from flyin
miata, everything else is a waste of money imho find a 1.6 oil sender and
take advantage of the fact that early 1.6 NA miatas actually have an oil
pres guage and not a dummy guage like later 1.8s props
@miamipacheco I've actually got it dialed in and buttoned away since then,
I actually swapped the senders for the oil pressure just after I Filmed
that.
In this video, I explain the steps necessary to remove the 2.0l 4 cylinder engine (FS-DE) from a 2001 Mazda Protege MP3. These steps can be applied on any of ...
+Saulo Montenegro you will hzve to cut, gut, and re weld a tranny/driveshaft tunnel down the middle of the car. the engine bay size will fit the 2j though. This is however ALOT of work and you will need to weld new body stabilization throughout. There are forums showing how to do this on a Honda, which is a similar application considering the amount of work needed.
How long did this take you? This also works for a 2003 Protege5 right? I
haven't figured out if I have worn valve guides or a messed up piston ring
but I am leaning towards dropping in another engine if it's a ring problem.
+Paul Silva thanks man! your video is really helpful. I'm going to pull the engine in my car to change the rear main seal. figured i'd take it out to check out the rest of the engine. I have an 03 P5 with 227K miles. First problem its given me is the main seal. Pretty good car if you ask me!
+Nestor Gonzalez it is possible to do this without evacuating the system. Just DO NOT disconnect any lines going to the ac compressor. However, it is easier to evacuate, you can take it to a nearby shop or purchase an ac vacuum discharger. First time I had done this I did not evacuate and left the compressor hanging with lines connected.
+Paul Silva First time ever attempting anything like this. On a P5 do you need to evacuate the refrigerant for the AC System? is there a way to do it without having to do that?
Yea I have to do my valve guide seals as well, if I find time I'll make a video before I head off to school. You'll need a jack, remove the passenger side engine mount, and a cam positioning tool is helpful too. You don't need to remove the head though, but you may as well do the timing kit while its torn apart too.
+Keaton Christensen Thanks for the reply and yes it does have cruise control, good call. I am hoping to be able to do the valve guides first with the head on and go from there. Thanks again Keaton.
It took me a couple days including the recording editing and purchasing of some parts. It can easily be done in one day. If you have blue smoke from the tailpipe on cold startups it's your valve guide seals. If you're consistently burning oil and blue smoke is constant than it'll most likely be piston rings. However these engines are notorious for the valve guide seals going bad.
hey dude, loved the video! I have a protege myself and got me a lifter
noise so I was thinking of swapping it out. Is the 2l in my car a different
version fs from yours? I have 2003 lx model...
By the way, do you absolutely have to remove the intake manifold to remove
the engine? And do want the headers..
+Keaton Christensen Hey man! I replaced mine to finally and didn't do a video either lol. I am still getting some smoke so I am assuming I probably have a bad ring or something. Recently it started idling radically when the A/C is on as well. Honestly I think I will be putting in a new motor.
+Kensho Designs Unfortunately I replaced my valve guide seals without making a video because I was on a quick time schedule, however I can write you up a detailed procedure on how to do the job if you would like. There are some tools I can recommend to make the job MUCH easier
+Paul Silva I may do just that! I just have to get all settled into college here, but I will probably end up doing timing kit along with valve guide seals in one video.
+Keaton Christensen I have a request for a video, Valve Guide Replacement lol! Seriously though, you did a great and detailed job with this video so I would love to see your take on the Valve Guide Seals with the head on.
cool! thats what I was thinking I dont have access to a garage as big as yours so I wanna keep the bolts and parts laying around to a minimum so I can hopefuly put it back together. good videos man I laughed a couple times
Removing the intake manifold isn't necessary, however it makes the job much easier when lifting the engine out. The 2003 lx should have the same FS-DE engine, so it will be the same procedure. Possibly some different wires on t but same general procedure overall.
