How Robots Are Saving the Dairy Farm
March 9 -- Today's dairy farm is a far cry from what ads and movies would have you believe. Cows go to robotic milking stations on their own, where they are ...
+meforsure Well world hunger would be solved if we farmed the land for people instead of for milk producing cows. I know that your not trying to be selfish at all, but cows calf's, and people around the world are suffering because of your addiction to casomorphine...
+rozynmike Ok so your saying that lets grow the stuff that gets us the most food right? That's hilarious because thats just like saying that just because it would better to remove machines and go back to human labor in all industries. Would solve unemployment right? There is so many crops that we grow thats less efficient than growing grass or grain. take wine lettuce etc. There is also different qualities of grain, one for human consumption and one for feed to animals. This lacks a systematic analysis of the food distribution system where most of the problem of starvation occurs. Looking of obesity in USA I wouldn't agree that we need to feed humans in the west more. We also have enormous grain reserves in the world //www.fao.org/worldfoodsituation/csdb/en/Production of grains go up when the demand for it increases and prices go up. You probably don't account for deceases or weeds that becomes a bigger problem when you are farming same or similar crops for many years" in a row" (haha). Grass have a sanitary effect on the soil and helps capture carbon that enriches the soil. Saying if we cut milk and meat all will be kumbaya is to simplify a system thats dependent of each other. Just because we can grow more food doesn't mean its the right thing. 56 million hektars in Russia is not in use and you are thinking there is a food shortage in the world? There is abundance in the areas that have buying power, scarcity in regions without. A problem that would be bigger if we just ate veggies is seasons and storage. In the colder parts of the world this is a common problem if you try to be self sufficient its manageable but it would mean pickled and other types of preservation methods would be even more used. Fresh produce that ppl would wanna have would be needed to be transported from far away. And while its done today it would be on a massively bigger scale if all were veggies. Oh you say, but meat is also transported from far away. yes, it is sometimes, thats because sending 1kg of meat or sending 1kg of lettuce is cheeper per calorie..
+rozynmike Yes thats our problems, leaking nutrients. You think that producing wheat or any other crop doesn't leak nutrients? And that we want our precious nutrients to go lost? That's money down the drain. And I think the american way of feed lots arn't that good of a solution cause it makes nutrients very saturated at places.
+Guy Fawkes Yes we can skip milk after 2 years. But we don't eat/drink everything just for a reason like that. Whats the reason to eat soy or chocolate pudding ? I like milk and cows.
+meforsure You know that humans no longer need to drink milk once their teeth fill in and can eat solids right? So, why would you promote something that's only required for the first 2 years of human development?
+rozynmike you know that cows produce way more milk than a calf can drink right? And what do you think the calf drinks most of the time in its early life?
