For people saying that Undertale should not be on this list. I think at
this point not that many people were as obsessed with Undertale as they are
now. It didn't have much of a big fanbase back then. This was made in early
Dec. and Undertale didn't get a huge following until late Dec. or early
Jan.
+SwollenHeroSo? It's a game that not that is worth playing that a lot of people who follow games have probably heard of but haven't played. This is more of a recommendation that you play it than informing you of it's existence.
+Bruno Pessoa He didn't say you can't have an opinion, he said it's weird to complain about "obscure/hipster" games in a video about obscure games. You can complain, but you should have known what you were getting into by the title.
There's one thing I still don't understand : why create a game about
morality that is completely random? Doesn't that teach people that morality
is more of a thing that happens than an actual choice?
+Vicente Parker sometimes stuff happens, there are cases around of where you were in the wrong place at the wrong time and got punished. that is where the idea of embracing your fate enters. and the idea wasn't that your fate was set either, the die cast can still be influenced
Am I the only one who does not understand how a game based on completely
random events (dice throwing) and completely random outcoming of a chain ,
made out of these events, can give you morality lessons?
+Igor Grabar Well firstly by the mere fact that entirely random events dictate the end result of the game (IE "fate decides everything") and then on top of that a bunch of stuff concerned with themeing of the board and (at least in the earliest cases) the lesson being taught alongside the board game bringing up the more culture-specific parts.
It's pretty funny - the only version of this game I've personally ever
played is one where there are only ladders and you'd always have to go
across to the other side, whether it moved you more towards the goal or
away from it. Not sure if that's the only version that exists in my
country, but it's the only one I've ever seen in real life. (I live in The
Netherlands, by the way.)
On World War II and Nazi Symbolism: A Note from Extra History
James explains why World War II series on Extra History won't use the swastika of Nazi Germany. Support Extra History on Patreon! //bit.ly/EHPatreon ...
I don't understand that law; it's just an attempt to pretend their history
of the Nazi's didn't happen. But let's be clear; Nazi Germany and the
Holocaust were indeed a dark chapter in the history of the world, but it's
also an important piece of history that must never be forgotten. Cause the
moment we forget history's sins, we will be doomed to repeat those same
sins...
+Wasser Sturm Ah I see; that's what I was having issue with; but so long as it's still taught in history classes in Germany, then I'm cool with that...
+HazzardousEco in Germany, we are very much aware of the past. That's why the law clearly states that it is legal to use these symbols in an educational context. And in practice there have been absolutely no reports about anyone getting into legal trouble for doing that.10 years ago, some people got sentenced for using striked out nazi symbols. This sparked quite a debate. But within a years, the highest court in Germany ruled that such anti nazi-symbols are legal. And again, no trouble ever since. You do get into legal trouble, if you use nazi symbols as gang-symbols to promote racism, through. But there is no way Extra Credits or a teacher showing EC-videos in class is getting anywhere near that line.
They will never teach anything about WW2 in public schools anyways so what
does it matter, they just pretend it never happened. Just like Japan and
China.
+Adam Jackson (Unevensteps) I went to school in Germany and we learned more about the Nazi period and WWII than about all other history combined, probably. It's a huge segment of German history education, because the government takes it very seriously. We do school trips to former concentration camps.
+Rogerandi Noire And for teaching reasons... So its not the law that would make problems (they couldnt get sued for the using it) its YT that doesnt care about the law and just block it in germany

Hey James i found this interesting war stealth game called This War of
Mind. Its a realistic survival rogue like game that you play from the
perspective of the civilians surviving the war instead of the soldiers.
Every action you do affects the people around you and the characters and
there is no saving. It also donates to charity for buying it.
There's a teacher at DigiPen named James who looks like James, maybe i'll
watch the new James Recommends to see if he's the same guy!
"Still in France"
Nevermind.
Hey James - might I make a recommendation for audio? If you buy something
like a Rode Smartlav+, you'll have a lavalier (lapel) mic that you can
record via your phone. This will give you excellent audio wherever you are,
even if you're travelling and need to do a video.
Okay, I humbly await your published thesis on how audio gave you mutated cancerous cells. I will buy you a beer when you accept your Nobel prize in medicine for your new discovery.
Bit harsh - dude's probably working hard and doesn't have the time for a proper audio setup, but still wanted to record something for the fans. Hence the quick and easy lavalier mic recommendation.
