Here's a "tale of two cities" - or two countries, actually. Germany and the United States. One country is preparing for a future in which their children will breathe ...
+David hEIDSEMAN Firstly city air isn't connected to the "world climate" in therms of overall pollution. Second: Germany will sell inedible cheep technology to the world at the day oil runs out. Leaving behind every other country that isn't investing right now. Which will eventually lead to clean air everywhere.
Why no development of Thorium-fueled nuclear power plants? Cheap, plentiful
Thorium found in granite deposits all over the globe and usually on or near
the surface. Once refined cannot be easily turned to use in weapons (as in
A bombs). Can actually use-up all of its radioactive life - while uranium
reactors commonly use-up only 10% and leave the remaining 90% as 'waste'.
Thorium can be used in smaller modular reactors for use in cities while
uranium ones require massive rural installations.
+Lt P Are you serious? Do you really propose to build a nuclear plant within a city? Even if the reactor stops working once it isn't fed with energy, immideate radiation exposure keeps being a danger and the structure of the power plant radiats after a shut-down of the plant, too.
Denmark has built more windmills than any country but still is unable to
close ONE of its Coal plants....If you want to be an industrial nation,
breezes 25% of the time and sunshine when its not cloudy will not do.
Perhaps Germany should review how it lives and follow its brethren in
Pennsylvania US who chose to stop in the 1800s somewhere using no
electricity and only horses for power They are admirable for their
choices.
Ya..she is in a difficult place right now ... I hope it settles down as the German culture is a great one and I would hate to see it diluted and go away.. I hope the in comers become German in their ways as was the case in US when all the different peoples came
+lXlElevatorlXl What a load of acid, nickel, cadmium pollution all that will create and the earth will be little ahead and probably behind for the total of everything used to do that...DO people realize earth is still in the midst of the melting the last continental glacier from 15,000 years ago until now. Why is it melting...Why did it get warmer. (Not through human activity since 15,000 yrs ago. Its the sun that these people never want to talk about. Its continental drift, Volcanoes , Natural phenomena ... Hey I am all infavor of not making the air dirty or water the same ..... but this fanaticism is off the charts. Humans would have to revert to Cave men to do nothing to their surroundings .... so its a question of how much you would like to revert backwards.Perhaps we should all pledge to live like the Amish Pennsylvania Dutch who jus horses and no electricity .....Yea..... then Putin would take us over ..... I remember in the 80's they were telling us we were in for a Great Global Freezing ....Now that would have really frightened me ...Then they did a 180 and it became Global warming. They base it on Computer models which couldn't even get the weekly weather reports accurate or the next 3 days of a hurricane track and they want us to believe they can get the next millennium correct. No way .... there are too many variables... One volcano would throw it all off.
I see what you are meaning...I hope Greece gets it together for the sake of all the EU. I guess what I see in US is that its much about the individual supporting himself and making his own decisions; not the Gov rather than a group (Gov.) making them. Why should I think they know better what's best for me. I am intelligent and capable of deciding things for myself and if I make a wrong decision, I suffer the consequences and learn for the next time. Like that song ...Paddle your own Canoe ... as with a group(socialism; I don't mean communism), there is always a good worker (Germany) and those who are always on the take. There isn't always the incentive to aspire high as you know someone will put a safety net for you if you decide work is too strenuous. Having been born in G.B. I thought everything was fine and there was no better way. Having lived twenty two years and now a citizen of US... I see so much energy and ambition and I could never go back... Work weeks are longer here and vacations are less long but that's ok ... you get used of it and prosper. You wouldn't believe how things like air and water are not what is portrayed ...they are very conscious of it here..Actually this country is only 10% developed... the rest is open space..lots of open wilderness.I love talking to you ...I guess it can work both ways and the individual decides what he prefers.
+gacj2010france has build a new nuclear power plant not to long ago. same as poland.also germans dont live spartan lifes.its true that we pay a lot of taxes but it all comes back to us one way or another.and about greece.we dont realy want to spent billions of euro on them when nothing changes.but if we dont than the e.u. could collaps which would only make things worse.
Its nice of Germany to help that way ..I do feel for the German citizens who seem to be making sacrifices in living a Spartan life. Its nice of them to support the Greeks too.. I think they are very nice and generous with their wealth. The French never seem to have an energy problem ... I don't know what they do to make their electricity but perhaps they could sell some of their electricity to Germany or their ways of production. If I were Germany, I wouldn't buy gas from the Devil (Putin)... he will make moves
+gacj2010 germany is already working on large scale storage systems.it will take more time but we will eventually get rid of all coal and nuclear power plants.
