+Geekanoids thanks mate. I love it and the fact I now have options to auto backup to Amazon Glacier, access my data remotely, pretty much endless storage and also my partner and kids can access my entire video / music libaries on our home AV now are all amazing things. I am also super happy to have RAID redundancy on my drives now incase of the worst happening. Between the remote access from anywhere, disk redundancy and glacier backups things are awesome now! I was stumped on how to connect it for huge transfers though. In the end I just grabbed an ethernet cable, got the IP for the LAN4 and opened a new finder window, connected to it via that window and am dragging / dropping the folders from ext sources over to the Synology. I am still only getting around 60 / 70mbps speeds though. Maybe you can help a newb to networking with this schoolboy problem lol

Dave - Thanks for the info. A great video, as usual. These are great, but frighteningly expensive for us peasants. Can you build one on your own, using an older PC? Sorry if the question is newbie or foolish, but, for some of us on fixed incomes, our budget is somewhat small. I have literally thousands of old, out-of-print blues and world music FLAC/mp3 rips stored on my on-line external drives, with a backup, but, due to the fact that the original vinyl albums are irreplaceable, I would also like to archive the collection off-line.

Thanks, Dave.

+ShikataGaNai100 Yes you can, but also note that the Sinology NAS starts at just over £100.

As always really well done m8. Have the same setup (backup vise) as you, only different Syno models. Keep it up!

Raspberry Pi Cluster doing rsync

If I have time I will make a case around it. This is just a functional test of all 16 RPis.

I take it each rsync process is running separately on each raspberry pi? - What would be a practical application for a cluster like this?

+Danjovi .sagat RPi is not efficient enough for data analytics, even for practicing, considering the slow I/O.

Good question, we are left to assume without an explanation to the video. I'm hoping to do a personal project with Raspberry Pi but i want to know if I can use the cluster for something productive when it's done.
