Don't know why but I never felt like investing in a special router for normal home internet usage. Have just been kind of satisfied with the netgear router got from my isp. Currently as much as 7 devices connect to internet wirelessly through that router and 1 desktop through ethernet connection. Why should I buy an expensive apple airport extreme then?

In my home network which consists of my macbook, imac, apple tv, wdtv (hardwired), all connected wirelessly to the airport extreme with a 250gb external drive hooked to the airport via usb port on back I get transfer speeds of 5.8MB/s. Amazing in my books. My wireless internet runs just as fast as if it was hard wired. Hope that answered you question.

Can you go hard-line from the airport to a game console? Going hard-line is better for online gaming so that's why I am asking. So basically wireless for the laptop and hard-line for the ps3 from the airport. I see all the Ethernet opening in the back of the airport so my assumption is yes.

with airport express you can not have any wired connections, there is only one ethernet port which hooks up to the cable modem. airport extreme has 3 extra ethernet ports for wired connections. airport express has an audio port for wireless streaming of music, airport extreme does not

btw, for me, its annoying to have the hard disk "untitled" under you mac hard drive. You can actually change it by going to microsoft and rename your disk (local c) to another name like "windows" or something to make it look nice :D hahah, great vid anyways,....

i have wireless-g broadband router with speedbooster, and i have had it for a number of years and its working great, but i also have airport extreme and i run them at the same time does that make my internet connection slower??

Has anyone had this buzzing noise when downloading/uploading data trought AEBS? Mine just started doing that and I wonder if anyone else has encountered this problem. Aand if someone knows how to fix it.

airport extreme has wired and i think 4 extra wireless connections, express only has one wired and wireless. extreme can support more simultaneous users. extreme has greater range and higher bandwidth.

can i use this router with verizon? if so i'm just going to get one of these because the router we have now keeps shutting off every couple hours and verizon refuses to replace it for free.

to create a new network on the airport extreme do you just need to plug in the power and it will work or do you have to plug it into something else aswell ??

To set it up, do u just need to like plug an ethernet cable from the arprt extreme to the router.. then u do the rest from airport utilities ???

yea you just plug it into one of the open ethernet ports on the back of the verizon router. you can even turn of wifi from your vreizon router.

this is a great router but i wish the default encryption was wpa2. the default wep gave me some aggravating problems initially.

My household has major problems with this router. We have a guest network for out renters downstairs and other guests, and a network for the family to use. This piece of hardware works excellent for a while, then suddenly.. BAM! problems like connections dropping, crashing, slower speed than 94% of the country i live in (Norway) for like weeks. Then it gets slowly better. Tried restarting the router, tried to change channels, only thing I haven't tried yet is to change the standard. disappointed

HELP!!!! I got my airport extreme.. like 2 years old......I Had installed the airport software on my computer .. but for some reason I had to reboot the computer and delete everything... the software of airport was deleted from my computer..... NOw i want to get all my stuff I had in the airport .....But I lost the CD.. how can i get back all my stuffs.. of the airport??????????

Thanks for the review, I was looking for an upgrade of my wireless network and was considering Linksys, Netgear, Apple etc. The Airport Extreme is what I am leaning towards. Im not an Apple fanboy or anything but I do own an iPhone, Apple TV, and a MacBook Pro. So going Apple seems appropriate. One thing... How is the range on this Router?

Is there a known issue with this product? It will not run on a 5ghz signal. Can anybody get it to work? I also heard that the issue is worse with Macbook pro's with core 2 dou processer. Anyway It will let me connect and says connected 5ghz but it wont load a website. Any ideas or known issues. I've tried both firmware 7.5 and 7.5.1.

I've been utilizing this for a couple of days now, and I am completely amazed at how stable my network has become. I use this in conjuction with my AT&T 2wire modem/router. I've split my 10+ wifi devices among the 2. I have 2 iphones (3GS & 4) and 2 PC desktops connected to my Airport Extreme and I couldn't be more satisfied.

@kdp8791 If you are asking, Yes you can connect a USB hub on the back to connect multiple Drives/Printers. This is how I use mine. Also, from you more recent question. You can use a AirPort Express , or another extreme to extend wireless easily, but not sure (or never tried it) with a Linksys or other router

I am going to college and moving to an apartment of my own and I am worried that I may have slow internet being provided in the apartment complex. Should I buy this product? Also, does it work with non-apple products? Does it still work if I don't have an ethernet cable connected to it?

So what I would do is plug this into my at&t modem whatever thing and then i can just plug in a portable harddrive and have access to that harddrive at all times while on my network??? Or can I already plug my portable harddrive into my att router and access it?

we're paying for 70mB/s download and 30 upload. Though our area restricts us to 30mB/s download and 10 upload. On the good days, this is what we get (though speed is spilt on multiple connections leaving me to like 3,2mB/s download on normal downloads).

@joeallev1 Yes, I just did it last week, although with a time capsule. I DID have to work with applecare and with verizon, in order to make it happen. The 5ghz signal is way better than the fios actiontec.

Can you access this NAS hard drive from outside your local network..?? Example if you are 2 states away and want to show a family member or friend a picture you have stored on your HD, can you access it from where you are at..??

You would just need to set up back to Mac on your airport extreme settings.. And like in the video you would need to set up a disk password.

actualy, i can see it on my finder but when i try to connect to it its telling me to verify the ip adress or that it might be unavaliable right now. do i need to have a computer home to make this work ?
