EP82 GT Starlet / Hybrid Turbo Setup
Having some fun at the video shoot as well as sharing some insight into the build of this fast lil car.
Pretty cool that you guys are from Cayman. I'm actually from the Brac. I
have a 95 Starlet GT auto, and can get a t3/t4 turbo from a friend for
free. Any idea what kind of work is needed to get it to fit? I know I'll
need a manifold and downpipe, but is there anything else?
+CBMECHA hmmm it is very difficult to answer those questions as so many things are buzzing through my brain on how to approach them loll. So i will make a video that will hopefully answer all your questions and maybe give you some further insight towards other questions you may have. But I will say mainly what your trying to do when your looking to increase the power of any internal combustion engine is optimizing Combustion chamber pressure management. And the term "boost" should really be referred to as, the restriction to atmospheric pressure differential across a cylinder head lol. If your scratching your head right now lol hopefully it will make more sense after you watch the video.
+High Performance Network I've looked into the t3/t4 swap, but it doesn't seem to be that popular. Looks like people tend to go with the td04. I'm not very big on imports. This is my first import, and first turbo, so I don't know the area very well. If I were to go with the t3/t4, could I run low boost with stock everything, including fueling? Say 11-12psi. Being a bigger turbo, it shouldn't heat incoming air as much, so the factory top-mount intercooler should be sufficient, correct? My only concern is the orientation of the turbo. I'm not sure if the t3/t4 will have the intake side on the right side, or if it'll be backwards. I'm not even sure if turbos differ like that. lol I've yet to see the turbo, so I'm kind of flying blind here. My friend has the turbo in Grand, I live in the Brac, and I'm in college in the US, so it's been a bit difficult getting info on it.
+CBMECHA Sounds like you have done your homework and have some knowledge in this field...Its all about steps though, I respect what your trying to do with building a setup that you wont have to upgrade later..However building your way up to that point step by step may yield more benefit in the long run, as you sound like you love this profession. But you would need increased fuel via pump n injectors among a host of other items...Then again starting off with a turbo a slight bigger than stock you will learn the entire process lol
+High Performance Network For now, it is my daily, though that may change in a few months, and it's currently stock. I figured the t3/t4 was pretty big for a 1.3, but it makes much more power at the same boost, and is capable of so much more. I can get a manifold and decat for the ct9, for a decent price, so I was planning on doing that with a boost controller for now. I'll definitely look into the ct12a though. For the t3/t4, I'd need a new radiator, correct? I'm on a tight budget, which is why the free t3/t4 sounds so good lol
+CBMECHA Hey thanks for the comment buddy....If i may ask, is it your daily driver you plan on upgrading? And not to sound negative but a t3/t4 sounds a bit big for an auto starlet....Without knowing much else on the parts you currently have you may think of doing a setup i did for my very first turbo upgrade. I used a ct12a from a turbo diesel hiace van. it was pretty much a direct bolt up to the stock setup and made some more power lol....However if you feel like going fully into using what you currently have. give me a msg on 917=2014 thanks
+Chad Webster Aye big respect coming from the Caymans, Would love to make it to a big event at bushy park. But thanks for the feedback and no worries you soon get through with your dream car bro
