Sh*t SFU Says
Here's a fun parody to the ever so popular series "Sh*t Girls Say". There was simply too much to capture on film, so this is only a small collection of what SFU ...
lol, I didn't think it would be--just thought I'd give it a shot. Yeah, I had already done some research on some of the professors to see if their research aligns with mine. I also spoke to the graduate studies chair. Academically, it seems like a good fit.I was just wondering about the student atmosphere, social life, clubs, etc. Not that a lack of those things will definitely make my experience worse--I'm genuinely just curious. I think I already made my decision to go, and just want to know what other people thought. Thanks for the info, though.
Youtube may not be the place to find your answer... I've had a great experience at SFU, but that was undergrad and in the faculty of science. I'm sure you can email an advisor in the program to help you decide if it's right for you!
An open response to SFU's feminist constituency...
Yesterday, the Simon Fraser University's Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies Student Union (GSWSSU) published an open letter of protest regarding my ...
Like...you're a superhero. This secretly girly girl who frets with domestic life then gets all harsh towards the feminist crowd. Like a Silent Guardian. A Lone Protector.A Dark Knight
Men don't have enough freedom to talk about their feelings and experiences
in a traditionalist culture. Feminism wants to help them by giving them the
opportunity to talk about their feelings and experiences in an *even more
restrictive ideological framework* that requires all their problems to be
explicitly attributed to what shitty assholes men have historically been,
before those problems can be addressed.
It's simple guys, just check your privilege, open with the customary, "As a
male feminist, I feel the patriarchy has backfired on me, one of its
beneficiaries, in the following ways," and then you may proceed to make
your confesh—I MEAN list your grievances against masculine hegemony.
Feminism is the politicization of female social aggression. It is weaponized relational aggression tactics writ large:"Men should stop being such crybabies and just accept that feminism offers the best outlet for their emotions.""We're going to virgin-shame men into not basing their personal worth on sexual performance.""Dear male feminists: I hate you! Don't leave me!"
Ah, OK. Thank you. What ever happened to tomboy?, and also thank you for fighting for mens and boys issues. it is nice to know that femminism is only a minority, and that there are strong women out there too.,
3:14 Even if feminists DIDN'T get it wrong, even if they were right, even
if everything they espoused was 100% correct (which is laughable, but bare
with me) offering a counter argument, saying someone is wrong, or just
having a difference of opinion is not ATTACKING feminism. Debate,
discussion, open mindedness... these are healthy things to have for any
intellectual movement.
But feminism doesn't want to be an intellectual movement. The vast majority
of them want to kick their feet, scream and cry until they get their way in
the most juvenile of manners. They want to use censorship, social bullying
and even violence to silence opposition- even opposition from other
feminists. Of all the things they do, this is one of the things that
infuriates me the most. There is nothing wrong with letting a debate
concerning something you care about get heated, that is just human nature,
but this 'how dare you disagree with me' mentality is that of a jackbooted
thug.
I still don't get why a focus on direct action and proper political
organization requires a slap fight with campus Feminists. Until I see such
efforts to engage the political process I can't take you or MRAs seriously.
If I see efforts to start a legal action network I'll actually do what I
can to support it. This slap and tickle on campuses? Have fun with it, but
'meh'
Feminists are on the cusp of being defeated. All of the hard work by MRAs
(yourself included) is finally paying off. Thank you for your dedication
and please don't stop fighting.
+Loathomar "The number of full time workers comes from the BLS"Can you post a link to the page that provides this information."Women only make up 17% of the top 1%, who pay "45.7 percent of the individual income taxes in 2014" Meaning, of the 45.7% of income taxes paid by the top 1%, only 7.77% where paid by women, cause much of the gap."The top 1% earn 19.4% of all income, so lets calculate how much women would need to earn in the remaining 99% to have an 80% earning ratio.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressivity_in_United_States_income_taxIf 17% of the top 1% are female then 3.3% of all their income is earned by women and 16.1% is earned by men.If there are 40% more men in full time employment than women this means that about 58% of the workforce is male and 42% is female. So deducting the top 1% means that the remaining 99% is 57.17% male and 41.83% female. For women to earn 80% of what a man earns they'll need to earn about 45% of all income, while men would earn 55%. Deducting the contributions from the top 1% means that the remaining 99% of women will contribute 41.7% of income and men will contribute 38.9%.By combining the percentage for workforce levels and earnings on average each woman will contribute 0.17% and each man will contribute 0.22%. This gives a ratio of 56.4% male and 43.6% female contributions. So it seems that any difference in welfare levels among genders can be explain by the 1% being mostly male and the high levels of income disparity in the USA.
+uanime1 The number of full time workers comes from the BLS, I don't know why anyone would use any other data."So if there's effectively 14 men working for every 8 women this means men will pay 63% of income tax, not 75%." That does not take into account the non constant tax rates. Really, it is better to look at 14 men earning $60K vs 10 women earning $50K. With standard deceptions, a 60K income will pay 37% more income taxes then $50K. $9306 vs $6,806, according to the bankrate's income tax calculator. This still does accounts up to 67% of income tax are male. But a lot of the gap pay has less to do with the average men and women, but the top men and women. Women only make up 17% of the top 1%, who pay "45.7 percent of the individual income taxes in 2014" Meaning, of the 45.7% of income taxes paid by the top 1%, only 7.77% where paid by women, cause much of the gap. Though this is ONLY income tax, which does focus far more the the rich, where as pay roll tax is something the rich pay almost none of, and the poor and middle class pay a lot of.
+Loathomar "Because taxes are not flat and because there are 40% more full time working men then women."And yet the income disparity is 80%, so there are plenty of women who are being paid high salaries."A person income of the lowest 20% would be just $12,500 or less, the next lowest would be $22,500."Many men also earn low salaries and pay little in taxes. What is your point?"So, while their income is 80% more, the taxes paid is 630% higher."Can you provide some maths to show how this works as these figures become impossible if someone is paying more than 15% in taxes."Between the increase number of men working full time and the 20% high pay, man would likely pay 75% of taxes."Let's try doing maths to test this rather than guessing. Let's assume there are 10 men and 10 women. If they all earn the same and the same number of them work they will both contribute an equal amount in taxes.Since there are 40% more men in full time work than women the number of men will be increased by 40% to 14.Since women earn 80% of what men earn the number of women will be reduced to 80% of the currently level (8).So if there's effectively 14 men working for every 8 women this means men will pay 63% of income tax, not 75%. Of course this assumes than anyone working part time pays no taxes, which is misleading."I would also like a site sourced for the number, but it is not unreasonable."The maths based on your numbers shows that it's unreasonable. Especially since you haven't provided any evidence to support that there's 40% more men in full time employment than women.
+uanime1 Because taxes are not flat and because there are 40% more full time working men then women. If you are low income, you pay a low tax rate, but if you are a high income, you pay a much higher rate. If you look at effective tax rates, the difference in taxes paid between each 20% group is rather large. A person income of the lowest 20% would be just $12,500 or less, the next lowest would be $22,500. But the lowest pays only an effective tax rate of 2% vs 7% for the next lowest. So, while their income is 80% more, the taxes paid is 630% higher. Between the increase number of men working full time and the 20% high pay, man would likely pay 75% of taxes. I would also like a site sourced for the number, but it is not unreasonable. It would be hard to get because most families file together.

[OFFICIAL] SFU LipDub: End of the World
If you knew the end was coming If you only had a few days left to live Who would you be with? Would you be doing something different? Would you be doing ...
I really liked the fact that it's not a random clips of people going crazy
and showing off their stuff like other lipdubs. It actually has a theme
(apocalypse which is always an interesting subject to make a video with)
and it attracts people to keep watching and pay attention showing general
SFU smoothly. Nice balance of challenge and the actual purpose of the
video, and I really love this video. some people criticize about the lip
dubbing, but I think it is not a big problem. GOOD JOB SFU!
Well I'll start off by saying the theme is great - the horrors/spookiness
makes it stand out, and I appreciate that they put a lot of effort into it.
BUT the execution is so amateur. Half the time u can't even SEE some of the
faces of the people here, and it doesn't feel like a video showcasing sfu
but more of a "lets all get drunk and have fun and trash this place before
zombies come" But I guess this just kind of confirms how SFU is...dark,
boring, depressing, soul sucking and not fun.
i think the video was well done...and honestly stop using the UBC is so
much better than SFU... i know UBC has a far much better reputation than
SFU...are you UBC students happy about that? But I rather be an SFU
Business student than to be a UBC arts student...like wth are you going to
do with ARTS?!?! UBC students to have to discriminate SFU students just to
boost your own self-esteem...thats just f*n childish by doing so that shows
that you don't have enough confidence about UBC...
I remember being so excited that this lipdub would showcase all the SFU
campuses. I remember the filming at SFU Surrey in particular because I work
and study there, but I was really disappointed that nothing but the first
two seconds of the 10 minute video showed the Surrey campus, and nothing of
Harbour Centre or Goldcorp. I love SFU, but this didn't show what we're all
about. I appreciate how hard the team must have worked, but it wasn't what
I expected.
I'm form SFU and go to to UBC Sauder. Btw, Arts encompasses a lot of
faculty. One of the major and biggest faculty in arts is Economics and all
business students need it. So you have no fucking clue to what you are
evening saying. Also UBC Sauder school is well known across Canada and
Internationally, but the Beedie School isn't and that is a fact you can't
deny. UBC puts more time and resources into their business school with
extensive networks.
This is a disappointment from SFU. Why the hell would they choose a Zombie
apocalypse theme?? Both UBC Okanagan and Vancouver had happy students, but
no SFU had to make a shitty dismal marketing video of students getting
clobbered by the undead. As a former SFU student this is truly an awful
theme, at least now I'm proud to be at UBC grad school :P
Love this video guys, this is exactly the kind of video that makes YouTube
awesome :D I'll do my best to try to get the block outside of Canada lifted
but I'm not sure if you have the right kind of license. Feel free to
message me if you need more info.
Your right...Higher times does rank UBC as an 'elite' school, it is right
behind other 'elite' schools like the national university of singapore and
the university of melbourne...LOL...elite = Harvard, Cambridge, Oxford,
Yale......UBC ummm......NOPE
Swearing doesn't make you illiterate you dumbfuck. I bet English isn't even
your first language. And embarrassment? Kid, I'm not the one who goes to a
fucking toilet shit school. Your parents must so be proud of you for going
to a garbage school.
It only took 2 years, massive delays and a release when the lipdub fan over
and done with. It's cool with all the school spirit, but the ball was
dropped and all the hype died after it was delayed for reasons that could
have EASILY been avoided.
No they are not, I went to both university and the chicks are the same
since every university there are in BC at least 60% of the population are
Asian mostly Chinese. Don't make a difference. SFU just can't play the game
well enough.
So much fail. What a Farce of a production. Next time your going to coat
tail on an internet theme, try and get it out a within a year of the fade
dying. And pick a theme that makes sense. And songs that the cast know the
lyrics too.
But we're not trying to ask for your opinion and compare it to your
school.. I mean if UBC had literate students, they wouldn't be swearing
right? You're an embarrassment to UBC (probably to your parents too). Merry
Christmas! :)
I'm from SFU. The effects and actual cinematography was amazing, on par
with UBC! But the actual lipdubbing and diversity was horrible, well below
UBC's video! Nonetheless, I enjoyed it, made the campus look great :)
My parents are proud of me as i try to treat people with respect and have
dignity. and my parents are proud of me cuz I'm not a UBC arts student
trying to act smart and picking on others. TRY PICKING ON MCGILL BRO.
actually the best time was the 21st release day because of the Mayan
Calender BS claims. Please watch this, to get the background theme:

DEAR JAMES HARDEN, ARGUING ON YOUTUBE AND ACTING LIKE SOME TOUGH GUY BEHIND
THAT COMPUTER SCREEN OF YOURS IS LIKE PLAYING FOR THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS.
EVEN IF YOU WIN, YOU'RE STILL RETARDED.
What kind of losers write comments like that. If you were actually better,
you wouldn't need to brag. You're just insecure little children and this
video is well produced.
You sound like one of those jealous faggots who wishes they go to a more
elite school. Lmao SFU is literally a fucking bum school. Have fun with
your concrete jail walls.
Nah I'm just drilling it in your dumbfuck's head's that SFU is a g a r b a
g e school and comparing it to UBC just makes you guys look even more
ignorant as it is.
the idea was obviously to do the mayan 2012 thing... in that case it worked
- and the production value was great, the actual lipdub part failed
horribly though.
1. What is the green glowing thing supposed to be? And the heart? 2. What
is the main purpose of a LipDub video? Is it supposed to be funny or cool,
or what?
haha this is great, I love high production quality and everything came
together so awesome-ly :D You guys made burnaby campus so creepy,
absolutely loved it!
No Clue why SFU chose a zombie theme, like going to school in a prison
design isn't bad enough. Instead lets add walking dead to a prison. Oh the
humanity.
totally disappointed with it,,,they just ignored the dancers, and the whole
video just dark as hell. Can't even see the zombies.
