Most people who put items on layaway don't have much money and need to make payments, otherwise they'd pay cash or put it on their charge card. Most "angels" who pay on an account ask if there are TOYS in the layaway so they are helping out someone with children. I always saved money in a Christmas Club account at my bank.

Way to encourage people to spend more than they can afford at KMart in hopes that some anonymous person will pay it off. When I go to pay off a stranger's bill, I prefer it to be someone I can see in line or in a restaurant, somebody who looks like they can actually use the help.

I have totally done that before. Used to buy the peoples behind me in the drive throughs' meal too. It feels really good to be kind. The rest of you should try it some time.

It is true. Someone paided my sisters it was great... and they only pay the contracts with toys clothes...kids stuff not TVs.

the key is to pay off the layaway and don't bring the attention to yourself. Don't give names and see if the folks you help turn around and help pay another persons layaway.

Dear secret santa..it's cool what you are doing for people in paying off their layaways :) A friend of mine here in Franklin, PA got hers paid for just tonight actually which is very cool..My thing is is that I am struggling very badly this year...so badly that I cannot even afford to buy anything let alone put anything on layaway anywhere and haven't been able to go shopping for x-mas gifts yet cuz I just can't catch a break..This year is the worst it has been for me ever

Dear Santa, I wish I had an angel because I can't afford to go Xmas shopping at all & I have 3 kids. I hear about people doing their shopping and spending $100.00 or more on each child. I wish I could do this too but, no money.So if there is an angel, Christmas cards to my kids would cheer them up. P.O. box 81 Sabattus, Maine 04280. my step sun who is in a wheel chair got his lay a way paid at this k mart.he couldn't believe some one could be so giving.he said some one had told him her husband passed away and he left her a lot of money there was so much she decided to do something for others, don't know if this is a true story.some one told him.either way it was very nice and to see his sons eyes at Christmas was priceless. god bless this lady who ever she is.

@douchebag4areason. These people didn't ask for these people to pay off thier layaways. The people who did pay them did it out of kindness to help another person. Maybe you need to pull your head out of your ass and reexamine what Christmas is suppose to be all about.

I was truly inspired by the story about the layaway angels. My name is Lee and I'm from New York City. I started an organization called "Pay Away the Layaway" to do this very thing. The website is payawaythelayaway dotcom and the idea is to raise money to help pay off layaway purchases of toys, gifts, and presents.
