@hammerhead...The grounding point of the lights I meant. Most of the time,
the ground for brake lights, tail lights, blinkers, reverse lights are
located in the trunk area. You will need to remove the trunk liner (or some
of it) to locate the grounding points. Sounds like a bad connection
somewhere to me. I'd start with the ground. You could use the double test
light method as well....good luck sir. Now I'm interested and want to know
the outcome! Posting a video would be great....cheers
@hammerhead, no I don't believe the switch is the culprit. If your other
lights are working, this tells you the switch is working properly. If it
were me, I'd be looking at the ground (negative side)...you could ground it
yourself just to check. Make sure your grounding point is clean and void of
ANY paint! Grounding requires a clean, bare metal connection. Just a little
paint will stop the connection from being made...good luck, I hope this
helps you....cheers
Thanks! that worked great! For new folks, it's probably good to get the
cover, etc, taken apart *before* you buy the part. I doubt mine actually
needed to be replaced. Instead, the switch had been pressing against a
small plastic offset, which broke and that's why the switch was out (on)
and the break was on all the time. I think I could have just re-adjusted
the switch to remove the extra distance of the offset, and it probably
would have worked fine as is
Ive got a 93 tercel which is corella's baby sister and is smaller I just
crawl in on back with the door open with a and a 10mm open end wrenchflash
light and I only can use one hand but I can do it that being said If i
wanted easier it easer for me to remove the seat just 4 bolts thats it. It
is a different car but that is the same exact swith it uses
I've recently had my brake light switch replaced 3 times within the last
month due to the fact that my brake lights want turn off or it want shift
out of park. So tonight my car is doing the same thing again with a brand
new switch from the Toyota dealer and I can't seem to figure out why the
switch keeps going bad.
Does anyone know if the third brake light works, but not the 2 main brake
lights, that it would still be possible that it could be the brake light
switch, or would all 3 brake lights fail if the brake light switch is bad?
Fixed my brake light switch on my Corolla 93' after following your video.
The tool size needed was different but everything else was very similar the
94'. Thanks for uploading this video, really helped me out :).
im having to do this in the next two days.. my brake lights stay on by them
selfs most of the time.. and now when my lights are on.. my break lights
stay bright.. so im replacing mine .. 12.99 for a new switch.
Hey man thanks for the video. I have the exact same car but I'm having a
problem removing the switch because the bolt is stuck. It figured you had
the same problem so I'm guessing that's why you broke it.
I have a 1990 Nissan Sentra. The Brake light in the window works. The brake
lights in the tail do not work. All fuses/bulbs have been checked. All other
lights work.Could this still be a switch problem?
Hi I have a question in order to remove the brake light switch did you
have to remove the nut that is by the pedal or just take off the
electrical plug and turn the switch from the back thanks
Thank you. it was the rubber bumper that goes on the brake pedal arm that
pushes against the switch that was bad. $2 part but your video helped me a
lot to get to the actual part. Thanks again.
I would like to thank you for the help , My switch did not need replaced ,
only adjusted! With the help from your video , It helped me to get it done
fast and easy! Thanks man!
you've wasted too much time, going about it the long way around. Just lay
your head on the floorboard with a work light and replace it in half the
time your telling ppl.
most cars require you to press the brake pedal to start the car. If your
car starts to develop an "I'll start if I want to" attitude it is usually
the brake pedal switch.
Is this the Same with the 90 because I'm having a problem where my brake
lights don't turn on when I press the brake, But my fuses and bulbs are
perfectly fine
i fixed my wife's car, thanks to you i save a couple of dollars. My switch
did not need to be replaced, i only needed to adjusted it. thanks again for
the video.
thanks! I was able to get mine fixed quickly and easily! At first I was
trying to get it from underneath, but pulling off the cover made it easy to
get to!
This video makes a great drinking game. Drink every time he says
"brakelight switch". Gyeah!

Good video. The method described is pretty much standard for any car, I
recall I learned this method from my father on a very old series III Land
Rover. I recall reading some Rolls Royce cars are slightly different :-)

Entshuldig doch :-) )

+Joana Baez-Lopez they are out too far you need to adjust the self adjuster and make sure the pistons are pushed back in cause they are new pads and pistons need to be reset.
Nice!
You didn't cover how you got the old brake drum off.
Any ideas on that would be helpful.
Especially with the metal to metal you have brake pad locked on drum.
Also, do you need to do both at once like with disk breaks? Did you do both
here?
Also would it be hard to just convert them to disk brakes? Seems like it
would make it a lot easier. Though you would need to change pads more
often.
Once again I found another video where the mechanic shows how to uninstall
the inner parts of the drum brake but does not show how to get the DRUM off
first! I would like to see a video where the repair or replacement is
started from the very beginning not in the middle!
No, in my case I discovered that the drum is held on by a retaining nut on the inner bearing just behind the dust cap. 1996 VW Jetta GL. You can look it up and it will show that!
+Anthony W Actually the drum itself is just supposed to pop off. If it doesn't, that means its stuck or even rusted on there. You get a hammer and barely tap on all the contact points of the drum so it can loosen up, then you can just pull it off. Its pretty simple really.
