As an OT who have attended the proper training with the inventor of this
technique, mrs patricia wilbarger, I havr to strongly discourage parents
and educators from following the instructions in this video. It is
completely wrong! Please see an OT who has been properly trained. The OT
should have attended a workshop by ms wilbarger.
I'm really not trying to criticize but having recently attended a training
on this with Patricia Wilbarger I feel compelled to comment. There are no
videos or books or pamphlets available on this protocol specifically
because Wilbarger Does not want anyone attempting this if they have not
been directly trained by someone who has completed her course. You really
need to physically have the protocol performed on you to understand and
feel how to do it. And you should only ever try it if recommended by an
occupational therapist.
This is a very beautifully demonstrated video. You are a terrific and
dedicated
mom. How are things going now, after years of treatment? Bright blessngs.

+sc5mu93 Wonderful news! He's so blessed with your help....and consistency. I am 66 now and I am just figuring out I have at least some of these symptoms. I have tactile issues, as does my hubby. One of my issues is trichotillomania (which I feel is related to this as well.) I have ADD and I think my husband has Asperger's (perhaps mild), but nevertheless certain odd quirks .... Anyway, I have ordered one of these brushes for myself and will see how it helps. Your video is my lesson plan. Thanks again!
Thank you! He is doing GREAT! At age 5 1/2, his speech therapy is ending. He will enter Kindergarten completely caught up (and actually way ahead) of his peers. Who knows how much we can attribute to this therapy but he has grown out of all of his sensory problems except he still requires food therapy for a texture aversion. Our kiddo is SMART!! He is a model student now who sits in school and pays attention and is extremely eager to learn. We are so proud of him. People can't believe it when I describe his past behavior. He was so incredibly busy and active before and really couldn't sit still. All we know is that starting the Wilbarger Brushing Protocol was the beginning of when things started to turn around.
Great job, Mom! As an OT with 25 years experience I admire your dedication.
I think it's just sad that someone can't reach out and try to help other
parents/caregivers without being criticized for not doing something right.
Of course, no two therapists do all exercises the same and of course you
were concerned about doing the video. You are helping him tremendously!
I am a skilled therapist, OTR/L trained in this treatment and I clearly state, parents should not follow this video! The technique is off. This is not meant to be mean! It is to protect.. More harm can be done if the treatment is performed wrong!
