Can anyone explain to me his notation and how he's getting it? The [He] 2s^1 is really confusing me and I get lost after that.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-LUvVtMdBD1I/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAF8/_id-YsF-0nA/photo.jpg?sz=64
+TriNitY5051 It's shorthand notation for Li - Lithium. He's saying that Lithium - which would be 1s^2 2s^1, contains the electron configuration for He within (or 1s^2). So in shorthand, he's writing [He] 2s^1, and in this way you can shorten up any of these electron configurations. For instance, if you want to write out the electron configuration for Na (sodium) in this manner, you may begin with Neon [Ne] and add the part that makes sodium different from neon [or the 3s^1]. Altogether, it would look like [Ne] 3s^1.

im confused about all transition metals have 2 valence electrons, and what about Fe(III) doesn't that have 3 valence electrons
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-0Z0-3WahGZw/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAFY/hCsqeMJRxgk/photo.jpg?sz=64
+ocin simat No, Fe has 2 valence electrons. Why? Because the most outer shell for the transitional metals is the "P" shell. Meaning simply they all have 2 valence electrons. Does this make sense?

Your videos are great....short and to the point. The videos are perfect for my 8th grade students. They are a fun way to transition into class, to use as an engagement piece, or to reinforce a difficult concept. Keep up the good work.....hope to see more in the future. I appreciate all your efforts!
