thank you so much for your video, my question is: if we get ISBN from the
Createspace ( free one), will we be able to sell our book in others
bookstores with that number?
o thank you,now I see! so thank you so much for your video, its lot of fun and good info to watch, we are waiting for your new videos! thanks for the answer!!!
+Olesya Izgagina Hi and thank you for watching the video. the answer is yes and no, ISBN numbers are pretty much required for having your book in a store, It is used for tracking and inventory and all distributors need them. A lot of book stores aren't thrilled with print on demand books and Amazon in general, they usually can't return the books if they don't sell them, like they can from books they order with distributors. That being said a huge number of books are sold just though Amazon. Book stores are getting harder to fine. What i would do is contact your local store and see if they will take your book. But generally you won't really see print on demand books like from CreateSpace in stores. I would though make sure you check off the book store distribution button in CreateSpace. and if you book becomes popular you attract attention and publishers and be in stores.
thank you for watching the video. Pricing is more of an art than a science, but there are some thoughts. For Kindle the average price is around $2.99, if you content is really valuable then you could go higher or if you are famous. On the print side many books are around the $9.99 area, little more if color inside. I would also look at the other books in your area, especially the top best selling books. Amazon has been pretty good at pushing prices down. I try to have about $2.50 royalty for print and $1.50 for Kindle. Put it out, see what happens, also watch what Amazon does with your price, they will discount
i appreciate it bruce, i am new to self publishing. my first book was an
ebook, but my 2nd book i am releasing thru createspace, and i was concerned
about limiting my options using their service, but as you mentioned i can
always re-publish at a later date and go thru bowker then. its important to
keep overhead costs down early to stay fluid! thanks for the info! -W.Hall
thank you LostPoet for the comment, I agree completely, keep those cost down. If your book gets past $125 which is the cost of the isbn, then it will go to be a regular seller. Our job is to keep making books. you will know if you have a success and then you can worry about that stuff. Having Amazon cover all the production, printing and shipping is fantastic.
