Thank you so much for the video. In the beginning you mentioned that you
manipulated the photo to turn it into a drawing. Can you explain more about
this
process? Thanks again, Linda
I have a Chauvet DJ Shadow UV light, I think it's 12 watts..Will that be
sufficient enough to expose the plate as you have done here? If not, what
kind of light are you using?
+alitlcrzyart Ohhhh. I totally thought you put the image transparency down on the plate again for the 5 minute final burn but now that I watch your video again you just burn the plate by itself! Gotttt it! & one final question (i promise last one this time!) There's another solar plate vid below yours by ExtraordinaryEugene who said the grooves are "hairline" thin. Is there a way u can manipulate the depth of the lines with the light? Like if you wanted a shallow or a deeper depth in your grooves? If so, how?
You will burn the screen first on the plate without the image. You remove the screen and then burn the image onto the plate. the screen and the image should not be burned at the same time. I hope that helps.
+alitlcrzyart Hi again crzyart! Trying this for my first time soon but one other thing I don't understand is how does the image get burned properly aligned if you're exposing it two times? The 1st time for 1:30 & the 2nd time for 3-5 mins? No human could perfectly align the image sheet onto the plate exactly the same again the second time around, can they? Doesn't that affect the line grooves if the transparency is placed a tad bit off each time?
+alitlcrzyart one last question for you if that ok. I am wondering what setting you use on ur press when sliding plate through? on the side of mine, it goes from 0 to 30
Thank you for taking the time to write back! Yes, I just got an order in
from them of 8x10's. it's the only size they have available right now,
until the new arrivals in December. Can't wait to start transferring some
of my old drawings to plates!!! Take care....
Nice work! Pulling out all my etching equipment from the attic and going to
give this a try!!! I have what is probably a dumb question and need some
advice with the light box configurations for the larger plate processing.
Q. Is this process possible do to the special Solarplate orange coating? or
can it also be done with zinc, copper and or aluminum plates? I do larger
plates like 16x20 sometimes. I have one of those face tanning light boxes
75 watts. It is obvious that this small box will not cover those larger
plates. So, I was thinking of building a box that will elevate the light
box an additional 10"-12" and adding an additional wooden skirt in a
widening angle underneath to cover more light area coverage and increasing
the light exposure to the plate by 40% do to the new larger distance
between the lamps and the plate. What do you think??? Thanks again for the
tutorial!!!
Hi RonnieI have only used the Orange plates with the light box. These plates have been discontinued and the new ones are now being tested by Dan Welden. Here is his site with more info //www.solarplate.com. You can hold the lighbox and slowly move it across the larger plate for an even exposure. For anything really big you can try your idea. That may work out fine. It can't hurt to try everything to see what works best. Good luck!
