The Pro Basses were the first Wal model started in the late 70's. They had
single pickup and dual pickup versions: Pro I, and Pro II. And could be
ordered passive or active. A Pro IIe would be an active version. The later
Mark 1 has the same body shape as the Pro, but the old Pro has a larger
headstock.
Right. Mine is a 1980 Pro II, passive. The previous owner also gave me the
original Wal Pro IIe active electronics, but the bass sounds so good, that
I never felt the need to try it (it it ain't broke...). I assume that most
of that "Wal sound" comes from their 8-coil pickups...
