The Friedman Amps Plug-In Collection, developed by Brainworx for UAD-2 hardware and Apollo interfaces, features two stunning emulations of Friedman's ...
sounds really great but not better than a real tube a,p for the same price
they are asking when you figure in the hardware. you can buy a jet city all
tube amp and do a friedman mod to v1,2 and 3 with gain pot after v3
+Janeen Clark or any tube amp its because the digital emu cannot compare to real electrons of real tubes in the high end sparkle just not enough deatil in 44k or 192khz 24 bit to compare to real life tubwes and cabs and specially the cabinets of real amps add crazy fine fine detail in sound

+Henrik Petersson (Fruitful Life) I agre except that along with S-Gear,Brainworx and Recabinet should be better option imho. Bias is just overrated.Cheers.
+orbithesun1 The UAD plugins are in general of way way better quality than the NI effects. If that's worth the higher price tag or not is totally up to you.Guitar Rig is certainly a lot of bang for the buck. But I've never been happy with it. I am very happy with the UAD stuff. It's not as good as a Kemper but still good enough for me.But some people love and make great use of GR. So that's great for them! If I had to choose a native guitar amp plug it would probably be Scuffham S-Gear or BIAS Desktop over GR any day however.
+Henrik Petersson NI Guitar is a full suite of 17 amps, 27 cabs and 54 effects. How can two Friedman Amp plugins be deeper the NI GR-5? NI Guitar Rig 5 has almost as many effects as UA's UAD whole plugin catalog. lol
+Dario Van Halen I agree that is it a bit on the expensive side. But it's much better than guitar rig. I didn't think this video made the best out of it however. Check the demo by Doug Doppler for a better representation.
The Chandler Limited GAV19T Amplifier plug-in is an exacting emulation of this ultra-responsive, dual EL84-powered boutique guitar amplifier. Inspired by ...
I ran the demo of this amp emu. I do not care if it sounds like the
original. I can say, however, that this is one excellent and inspiring
emulation. I took this amp way beyond your average "me too" sounds. This
plugin can do quirky almost as if Z.Vex created an amp.
The Brainworx bx_refinement plug-in for UAD-2 and Apollo tastefully removes the harsh, hard edges of your tracks without dramatically altering the character ...
How can it be muffling if its literally boosting the highs via the prescence knob? Maybe you meant it sounds like it hollows out the upper mids too much.
Updating my post from below, I used the Brainworx bx_refinement plug-in on
almost every track for the last two CDs I mastered. I love it. Used
moderately, I hits just the right frequencies - the 1 - 4 kHz range that
the ear is most sensitive to and tends to get harsh with digital * and
smooth's them out in a unique & pleasant way. Plus, the presence boost is a
very nicely tuned high 'air' lift. The dynamics section is key - when set
right, it keeps the loudest moments from offending, and the timing allows
for more or less transient response. Very well tuned timing laws.
The Saturation is passable, but there are definitely better tools out there
for adding harmonics (SoundToys Decapitator, Sonnox Inflator, UAD P.
Maximizer, iZotope Trash 2, Slate VTM, Waves Kramer Master Tape, etc);
but this is not a deal breaker.
Home studios with cheaper converters and microphones would benefit by using
this plug-in on vocals, drum overheads and hip-hop loops with excess
high-mid energy.
bx_refinement is now available as both Native at www.plugin-alliance.com
and for UAD www.uaudio.com.
* (unless an excellent engineer records with excellent converters, mics &
pre-amps, then mixes with high end gear - which is happening less and
less.)
(Original post):
Not convinced yet. Will need to demo it, but sounds like something that can
be done with Brainworx Dynamic EQ or M/S Multiband, with a good multiband
saturation - exciter plug-in to top it off.
The only advantage I see is ease of use - workflow. I've been dealing with
these kinds of problems for years and have 3 or 4 great ways to deal with
this.
Looks like they added the modulation to make it interesting to
non-mastering peeps; they didn't show it, but it must modulate the
'harshness reduction' in & out based on the sine, depth & tempo settings.
I will demo the plug-in and get back to you.
Actually, the plug-in is well designed to smooth out the harsh frequencies in a mix or track, in a way that can't easily be done with eq or multi-band dynamics. The 'Dynamics' section is very well tuned to keep a mix from getting edgy sounding during the louder pasages. Perfect for horns, distorted guitars, edgy vocals and any other source the bites in the 1 - 4 kHz region. A great mastering tool.
