Why not use just use the stock shaving catcher that comes with the sharpener and select the largest hole opening for the dowels? If you need an even bigger hole, just ream it out more.

+Jack Houweling That should be easy to solve. Just cut a hole in the bottom of the shaving catcher and THEN place a large box below to catch the falling stream of shavings.

That would work except if you are sharpening a lot of dowels the shaving catcher would be too small.

I used the pointed dowels for my finishing turntable. See video.

Best of waste-pencil shavings

Cheap and easy craft ideas for kids. Please be careful in disposing the lead after sharpening the pencil. Toxic to humans and pets.
