It was the HLAs. Apparently, you have to check them after doing a timing belt change. I had to bleed the air out of them by putting them in oil and pumping the air out. But it works great now!

What are "HLAs" I'm having a similar issue with my 96 impreza. Can you post a detailed explanation of how you fixed it?

I hope they didn't suffer any damage. Was there enough of oil when you were changing time belt?

It seems to be running fine. The oil level was fine,too.

Nope, I had to get rid of the car because I had no where to keep it. It all got explained in later videos. I still have the EJ22T block if someone wants to buy it.
