2015 GMC Sierra 3500 takes on the new Ike Gauntlet HD Extreme Towing Test
//www.TFLtruck.com ) The 2015 GMC Sierra Denali 3500 is the new Heavy Duty diesel truck from GM that's about to take on the Ram and Ford HD trucks on ...
I think that's a 2500. 17,000 lbs max towing is what the 2015 GMC Sierra
2500 Denali HD is rated at. 22,000 lbs is the max for the 2015 GMC Sierra
3500 Denali HD.
You are towing over the max rating of this vehicle. Total Single Rear Wheel
rating are listed on GMC's website and you are over for a SRW vehicle.(13k
lbs.) I am a regular viewer, but this example could kill someone. Remember
SRW and DRW are vastly different towing numbers.
//www.gmc.com/trailering-towing/towing-charts.html
+Joel Johnson 17,000 lbs max towing is what the 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali HD is rated at. 22,000 lbs is the max for the 2015 GMC Sierra 3500 Denali HD.
+cragre28 You are assuming an awful lot. Until we know the exact specs of the truck, you very well could be just as wrong. Until TFLT replies, we will not know if it is at max tow weight or over.
Max truck payload as they described was 4200lbs, so the 24lbs water tote left them with 1800 lbs of tongue weight before it exceeded trucks GVWR. Considering it is recommended that bumper pulls get 10-15% tongue weight, that would give the tongue weight between 1200 and1800, everything is ok. The guys knew what they were doing, they weren't out to kill anybody, so just let it go you were wrong, it happens.
+cragre28 Unlikely given the fact some Denali 4wd 3500hd only have an 11000 lb gvwr. I would love to be proven wrong. Axle ratio would need to be 4.10 to even come within striking distance. Lets hope TFLT will comment but I have my doubts when they are wrong.
SRW 3500 towing with the Duramax is 13000 lbs bumper pull. They were towing just over 12,000lbs. The other 2500 lbs was from the tote in the bed. So it possible they were both under GVWR of truck and max trailer weight.
+Zachary Adams what exactly are IFS problems? Ive had a solid axle truck and they have issues as well. Ive had 4 IFS 3/4 trucks without a single issue other than normal ball joint stuff at 150-175k miles.
2016 Ram Power Wagon take on the Extreme Ike Gauntlet Towing Review
//www.TFLtruck.com ) 2016 Ram Power Wagon - We know the Ram Power Wagon is great off-road but how does it tow. There is only one way to find out and ...
Exactly. Maybe the towing mirrors weren't on this truck but to me the truck shouldn't get points taken away when you know the truck can come with better mirrors.
+johnnybabee The 6.4 makes it's peak horsepower at 5600 rpm, the 3.5 Ecoboost at 5000 rpm. The 6.4 has its max torque at 4000 rpm, the Ecoboost at 2500 rpm. It's the Hemi that has to be revved like a Honda.
+johnnybabee I wouldn't say that. When I was test driving trucks I thought the ecoboost had a crap ton of oomph right off the line. Just over time of say 100-150K miles you'd have better reliability with a v8, especially the 6.4
+Donald Weber I stand corrected. However, 6.4 makes its torque down low. The ecodouche has to be revved like a honda to reach the powerband. And the longevity of a ford twin turbo is suspect at best.

2015 Chevy Silverado 3500 4WD takes on the Ike Gauntlet HD Extreme Towing Test

oi
good thing they put a 4x4 hahaha
this is the new 2016 chevy 3500 2 wheel drive HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
they tie a 30lbs trailer and are like ok lets go then the rear tires dig
in..
OK so lets go write a report now HAHAHAHA 400 a good days pay right there
HAHAHAHHAA
THE END
::)
Farmer allis is right. Geez use the the same trailer, same load, same temp
outside roughly, same everything or the tests are not quantifiable. As usual
the korean chevy duramax is down 100ft lbs of torque to dodge's cummins and
fords diesel . Good luck with that GM.
+Paul F A truck's real world performance isn't always inline with spreadsheet numbers. The 6.6 Duramax is a very proven and competent engine, hence why the military is going to be using it as the powerplant for the replacement for the Humvee.
It's not all about torque ford has a flexing frame issue why Chevy and dodge do not. I'm a Chevy fan and is ok with the less torque because it's proofed it's self in other situations that the ford an dodge could not do. Dodge has 150 pounds of torque more now and I still fine with Chevy. It's all what YOU get out of it in the end not everyone else
Well Ive heard as high as 13mpgs empty, so dont know where your sourses are? But Id still like to see how that 8.1 liter compares to the power of the duramax in the time it takes. So what if it only gets 1 mpg, gas engines are way cheaper to buy and maintain than a diesel. You can buy alot of gas for what the diesel costs. Especially if a person isnt towing that kind of weight all the time you dont need a diesel.
Real simple to tell what gear your in fellas. Drop the shifter into the
manual mode and there you have it. Is this shit really for real? YA it
doesnt show what gear were in, it just shows drive. I just bought my 6th
chevy big dog and they've all had manual shift as well as DRIVE for as long
as can remember. Extremely bias in my opinion. Keep doing what your doing
Chevy chewing up the competition. Love my new 2015 LTZ loaded with all the
bells and whistles 2500 HD Duramax Diesel with the unbreakable king of
Trannys, Allison.
+Paul F you do know that Isuzu(japanese) makes some of the best motors in the WORLD right? They only partner to save time and money and usually its a win win for both companies.
+Paul F korea? really? haha Japan my friend... and its built in the US, plus when you know how diesel engines work, and how transmission torque convertors work, yes all that torque is great but horsepower gets you up the hill and the so called "weak" duramax still has the same as the new cummins and the same as the old powerstroke, now i work for GM as a diesel tech and i can tell you right now the duramax has ALOT less issues then powerstrokes and but they all have emissions issues thats a fact but duramax and cummins does not have engines apart very often for hard parts, gaskets do fail
+Greg B Yeah it only took GM 30 years of trying and blowing up thousands upon thousands of underpowered terrible diesels to realize they couldnt build a diesal and finally got someone else to do it! Now they finally have a decent one from korea ! LOL
2016 Chevy Silverado 5.3L V8 takes on the Extreme Ike Gauntlet Towing Review
//www.TFLtruck.com ) The 2016 Chevy Silverado with the 5.3L V8 and the 8-speed automatic takes on the extreme Ike Gauntlet towing test. The Ike Gauntlet ...
I own a 2016 Silverado HC with 5.3l engine. And here is the GM Silverado
and Sierra disadvantages sorted by more imporantly:
1- 40 Gallons Fuel Tank (26 Galons isn't a truck fuel tank.
2- Rear A/C vents and Rear Heated Seats Option for Crew Cabs.
3- Full rear flat floor.
4- Real Center Console Fridge Freezer Cooler (Unlike the fake 2016 Escalade
Platinum cooler).
5- Rear fulll slide-down window.
6- LT4 650hp engine option
The first three is a MUST in order to trade in my 2016 model. The last
three I'm willing to pay even more!
Advantages:
1- No electric release tailgate. (No Maintenance hassle)
2- Steering column transmission shifter. (More Space for Storage)
3- Real Cooled Seats
4- Quiet sealed interior
5- A/C cabin air filter (Cleaner Air - Controls DUST!)
Please Like to share this with others and reply if you got good ideas!
thank you so much for doing this configuration. I knew my little 5.3
wouldn't disappoint. please compare this engine more to the competition
hemi and 3.5 ecoboost. again thanks again.
+Gage Davis when I replied mine I'm talking about the engine itself not my particular LMG. it's a 5.3 and I'm glad they tested it. great engine. period
Hello TFLtruck dudes! Thanks for all the towing reviews, but I need to
question your biased testing standards. If this was a true 'maximum towing
test', why wasn't the truck loaded to its full rating (11,000 lbs trailer
and 2,100 lbs payload) capacities? I've watched nearly all your tests and
the vehicles tested seem to always fall far short of their maximum ratings.
However, when you tested the new Nissan Titan XD-Pro4x, you loaded it to
full bare (nearly a 12,000 lbs trailer and 1,700 lbs payload)! It was
loaded to the point where you couldn't even bring along a third passenger!
But in this test, even with 3-people in the cab, the Chevy was no where
near its full payload (2,160 lbs.). To be fair to each manufacturer and
offer a 'true' unbiased opinion for customers/viewers... treat them
equally. What gives guys? Thanks.
+bob no...... it's based on class of vehicles. Nissan is in a HD class not a 1500 class. it weights like 2000 pounds heavier than the heaviest 1500 1/2 ton truck. it is considered a light HD also becuase of the formal HD rating it is not required to provide MPG numbers. Also the Cummins is not required to meet the more stringent EPA emisdion numbers and is rated with the HD class. the Nissan is more in line with HD across all measurable metrics....... that's why they test it as such. not a bias just a fact.
+bob you're comparing a 3L 6 cylinder diesel to a 5L 8 cylinder diesel. Fuck outta here with that. Also, the XD has a tougher frame, stiffer suspension, and higher payload and tow ratings. Upping the weight had to be done in order to actually test the powertrain, which is what this Ike Challenge is intended for.
+The Fast Lane Truck if the titan is more of a hd truck just because it has a diesel that means the chevy colorado dramamax and ram 1500 ecodiesel must be a hd truck in your words pretty much, i don't think just because the titan has a diesel engine makes it a hd truck
Looks to me like this truck did great considering the 2015 6.2 8-speed did
7:57 with a lighter load. If the loads were identical, the 6.2's time would
be similar. I think the results of this test say a lot for the 5.3, and how
capable it is covering the vast majority of the capability range the
current GM trucks have. Thanks for doing this review to help settle the
question between the two engines.
What would take the Ike tests further is maxing each of these trucks out
according to their max ratings, to answer the question how good can a
half-ton tow 12k lbs? But, I know that's a full-time job wrangling a
factory-supplied truck with perfect top-tow/payload/gearing specs. Still,
it would be nice to know how any truck fares at its true maximum. I think
the only trucks you guys have tested that were at their limit were the old
Titan, the current Frontier, and the last-gen Tacoma.
might be due to the safety of trying to tow 12k lbs on a half-ton. I have no doubt any of the half-tons can do it, but the unexpected can occur. Watch the video of the Ram with the 6.4 Hemi. Nobody was expecting that truck to drop to such a crawl and you could tell there was a lot of anxiety. Testing at 80 or 90% of their max tow rating gives us a good enough idea of their capability.
Ram is the best at towing because my dad has one and he hauls a lot of
weight and when we are on the free way he forgets that he has a trailer on
because ram hauls like its hauling nothing. That's how ram is the best at
hauling
not impressed at all! running a 4.30 gear vs 3.72 gear, of course
acceleration is going to be better. Thanks Ford for proving again your
bunch of knobs!
+RedBeard6.2 “Zebulon John” The new Powerstrokes are tempting for me to switching being 440 hp and 900 or so tq and the body style is beautiful in my opinion but the new f150s went down in my mind, I have seen lots of Eco boosts on used car lots where I live
+Aaron Jones that is very true, and also sales are down cause of the limited amount of aluminum to make the f150 which will hurt sales, I think ford makes a great truck, but with the new body style and interior of the Gm trucks, lots of people are switching to Gm and that's why sales are up
+RedBeard6.2 “Zebulon John” off course, 5 of each pick up trucks are ford, but 8 of each 10 trucks on the way are ford, so i think is normal find more fords on the road having troubles
+Pablo triana t I know friends always having problems plus my dad is a state patrolman and has to attend to all broke down vehicles and is always seeing Powerstrokes with its hazards on, on the side of the road
How u now that, u have a "chevrolet". I work in horse transp, all the time driving and pulling my 16.000 trailer with my f250, and my 23.000 with my f 450, and i had no problems, i dont really understand why the haters say it is bad, ayt least for me and the 80% of my partners it works great.
It's common to see a Powerstroke out pull a Duramax. I've driven all three...Chevy has the best ride, Dodge is the best at pulling from a stand still and Ford just has the most horsepower. Chevy is the lightest truck out of the bunch but its diesel engine is falling behind very quickly.
+John DiMartino I agree the powerstroke is bad just cause of its reliability, my dad has a 14 d max and my step dad has a 13 Cummins and they both pull real well, but the Cummins doesn't run near as strong as the dmax... I would like to drive the 383 hp Cummins that comes in the dually just to compare
+Zebulon John Cummins leaped to the front of the pack in 2013...it outpulls both Ford and GM now, I agree the dmax was always a great pulling truck, the bars been raised...I own DMax and owned Cummins, love both, Ford is the weakest diesel out there.
2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 6.2L Ike Gauntlet: Are Eight speeds better than Six?
//www.TFLtruck.com ) The 2015 Chevy Silverado with the 6.2L V8 is one the most powerful half tons in America. But how does it tow when equipped with the ...
+Cadillac Fan The Cadillac Escalade Boy! If you want efficiency you get the 5.3... My 5.3 can tow 9300-10,300 and gets 24mpg on the highway... The 6.2 can tow 9,300-12,000, but the MPG drops from 24 HWY to 19... This is why far more 5.3 sell... If your wanting a 6.2, get the 2500 for the same price that tows 17,000lbs.
+PaLEOjd B.S. in automotive engineering but thanks for asking.. you claim reliability issues but they are built to handle the power. and the carbon buildup issue has been fixed new the newer ones..
So what do you find funny? Obviously you know absolutely nothing about engines. Any V6 with twin turbos should out perform a natural aspired V8, that's nothing new. There have been 4cyl turbo engines outrunning V8's in the sports car scene for a long time.People have been slapping turbos on engines forever and they work. The only problem with a small twin turbo engine tuned for maximum power output like Ford has done is not going to be reliable and last over the long run. It's very obvious now with all of the Ecoboost issue popping up since it's been around a few years. The turbo engine should do much better at the higher altitude than any engines without forced induction, if not there's a problem.
when are you guys going to tow using the Ram 3.6 liter up the IKE gauntlet
I have been waiting forever this thing is the ultimate towing machine I can
hold sixty five up a mountain pulling a 6000 pound trailer not even pushing
it over 4000 rpm
This engine is based on the new LT1 architecture?
So jealous of you guys...used to spend summers in the Silverthorne/Dillon
area, and Georgetown for ice cream. Good memories.
Huge improvement with the new transmission. As far as looks and
performance I'd take this over the Ford EcoBoost! True "Silverado" here
too, pretty much top of the line and tons of chrome, just like the good ol
days...wish they'd go back to the Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale names...
Hell yeah! My first truck was an 87 3/4 ton 4x4 Scottsdale with the 350 a few mods, man that thing was a knuckle buster she still runs great to this day... Sold it to my dad so one day I could get it back for shits and giggles I mean my ram 1500 is a great truck but those old trucks with the straight axels n what not ... Can't beat them.
You guys always mention cylinder deactivation. Just making sure you know
the cylinders wont deactivate in tow/haul mode, so it doesn't affect your
mpg's on the Ike Gaunlet
+kevin schlegel AFM actually does engage with two/haul mode on in the new generation Silverado's, now it wont do it going up the Ike gauntlet for sure, but towing on a highway or a flat road it will engage. AFM did not engage in the trucks 13 and lower.
Hello, from Oregon. You all need to do a base Work Truck Model shootout.
Not everyone likes all the bells and whistles on their trucks that go to
work with them. Please consider....love your videos.
+waydealf1969 they test what the manufacturers give them.... GM is the worst for always glorifying their "LTZ" models. I remember when the last Malibu came out I was interested but it took almost 2 months for me to find a photo of the interior of the LT trim. every press photo GM put out was the loaded version.
+Marc Monson 10,000 pounds. We talked about the trailer weight in the middle of the episode. It's the same weight as all other half-ton pickup truck we tested. It's 10,000 lbs (trailer + load).
+MrChevypowerThere is talk of durability, though I'd wager Ford knows the EB's will last else they would not stick them in a work truck.Having said that, both have electronics, so with the exception of a pair of turbos that could go wrong on top of the common stuff, unless the NA was mechanical I would thik they would last just as much in similar environments.
+arbiter1 possibly, you gotta keep the rpm high in the Chevy for max torque though. Ford is coming out with a new 3.5L engine with 450HP. Personally, I don't care about performance as much as I do about capability, longevity, and economy, so diesels are the way to go for pulling all the time.
+B-dub TV Well that ecoboost has the advantage of a turbo which is a massive advantage at those high altitudes. Put both at sea level and see which one win's.Speed the silivrado, in this video did it, matched the ecoboost version. And that thin air effects the chevy more cause doesn't have that turbo making up for it. SO at sea level the ford would lose.
2014 Ram 3500 HD Dually vs Ike Gauntlet HD Preview
//www.TFLtruck.com ) The 2014 Ram 3500 HD Dually is built to tow 28000 pounds. That's a lot of weight to tow. In another TFLtruck extreme towing test we ...
Aisin 6-speed automatic. Aisin is the world leader in making transmission and half owned by Toyota. This trans is much better than the Chrysler 6 speed in the 800 lbft setup. Ram should just offer one powertrain config for both of their 3/4 and 1 ton like GM and Ford did. However, kudos to them for still offering a 6-speed manual transmission. Also, with the manual transmission, torque rating drops down to 650 lbft 350HP. But...the pulling power is still better with the manual because the first gear ratio is much greater with the manual vs automatic.
Living in a town that has nothing but semi and hotshot haulers pulling through it I would have to say I have seen an equal share of all brands when it comes to who uses what to pull. Most of these guys are looking for the most efficient way to haul their cargo across the country...not to mention half of the guys hauling have some form or improvement done to their truck taking them from stock to who knows what.
I'll admit, I've chuckled at some of the "off roading" you guys did when
TFLT first came out, but now this is the only channel I go to for
information on new trucks. Great job guys, keep it up!
The GM trucks are better overall ! The dodge lamb has a good Cummins but
the rest of the truck was put together Last minute just to compete with GM
& ford
Ford bought Cummins and rumor has it they are going to replace the Power
Stroke with a Cummins and Ram will be getting the CAT engine. What do y'all
think of that?
Friend of mine works with Ram and he gave me a little sneak peak of what's
going to happen.
+Luis Rizo yea. they would never get rid of the 6.7 after all their advertising and bragging about how they build their own diesel while chevy and ram have to buy their diesel engine from someone else.
well either your lying or your friend is lying. ford never bought cummins. ford owned a 10 percent share in cummins stock in the 90s and they sold it in like 98. cat doesnt make on highway diesel engines anymore.
Wow is this rumor still around. I havent heard this in about 6years, when ford bought into cummins.
2016 Chevy Silverado 6.2L vs Ike Gauntlet Extreme Towing Review (TFL Gold Hitch #1)
//www.TFLtruck.com ) The 2016 Chevy Silverado with the 6.2L V8 is the most powerful half-ton truck in America. In this TFLtruck towing review, we run the ...
+Mike Zaldivar yep everything short of a diesel. I love my 6.0 2500 but given I would've found a 8.1 truck when I was looking, I would've been all over that.
+Marcus Mar I have a friend that has an 02 Silverado 2500 HD 8.1L Engine 5 speed Allison trans. This thing will drag damned near any thing hooked up to it.
+Mike Zaldivar Probably amazing. GM should've never dropped that engine. Gas big blocks are where it's at for towing if you don't want a diesel. Bigger displacement small blocks are nice, but an 8.1 will tow better than a 6.0 any day of the week.
im a mopar fan n i gotta say the new chevy n gmc finally look good again!
the new fords are very ugly.. tundra looks good. titan is in the middle
somewhere..
+mark shuler what the fuck is this about? Jesse is speaking the truth. You must be a fucking chevtard. So why don't you get your little niggor ass out of here and fucking leave the ford conversation.
+jesse burnett Fanboy? I drive a Toyota. Im completely unbiased. I have, however, seen how both trucks run. You just admitted you have a Ford. So don't open your fucking mouth when you wanna accuse a FANBOY.
+mark shuler keep telling yourself that gm fan boy. my 14 gmc all terrain with the 6.2 was a dog, it was traded on an ecoboost. my dad's 15 high Country was a dog, so it was traded for an ecoboost. you've gotta rev the hell out of the 6.2 to get any torque while towing. with the eco, pulls much more like a diesel and doesn't search for gears. they're both stock engines. stop getting your feelers hurt because the eco is a better, more revolutionary engine that pisses off fanboys like you.
+jesse burnett This test was conducted at altitude. If you knew shit you would know that altitude affects turbo engines much less. Get them anywhere but the Rockies and watch the Chevy jerk its fucking guts out.
