Awesome Clay! I have a 2006 Freightliner 258" 2500 with 312k miles.. You
gave me a lot of courage in this video. The part # is a real help. I'm
going to replace every joint in the propeller shaft this week as I just
replaced one carrier bearing and found the joints in the sections I removed
to have significant wear. Plus, now that the carrier bearing is replaced I
can feel the joint vibration. Other than that its a great running little
rig. Big kudos, I hope a lot of people find this post!
I understand that but Allison is made by GM which makes ofcourse Chevrloet
and GMC trucks. If it can handle there tourqe and power then it can handle
dodge because to be honest with everyone even those im a chevy fan...
Dodge,Chevy and ford trucks as "Stock" are all the same if you match them
up f150=1500 f250=2500. There all close in HP and torque.
The owner probably should've had some heavy duty ladder bars on there.
Watch the axle wrap from the right rear wheel!! The drive-shaft broke due
to lack of bracing on the rear axle, (from the sudden shift in the drive
angle). This isn't the trucks fault. The owner should've braced the rear
axle better. I have the same color truck!
ahh....i cant tell if you snapped the ujoint or if you totally snapped the
yoke off the drive shaft. Stock dodge U-joints are just junk...my ujoint
coming off the output shaft of my t-case exploded on me going up a nasty
steep hill, haha. Upgraded to OX joints, never had a problem after that,
hahaha
Nah...they're all good trucks if you take care of them and use them for
what they are for. I'm just a fan of pick-up trucks. Mainly American made,
but the Titan and Tundra are not bad either. I had a 95 GMC and it was OK.
I like my Dodge though and would definitely buy another.
@trekbikedude You are correct! Allison is too weak for this kind of stuff.
A 48RE is a helluvalot stronger than a GM Allison! After all, the 48RE is
based on the legendary 727 "Torq-Flite", that can withstand even the
funniest, of the funny cars, & Dragsters/Pro-stock too!
Allisons are only good stock.. You cant even build an allison to hold the
torque that these engines put out. That is why trekbikedude is correct in
saying that they put dodge transmissions in that are built RIGHT to handle
the high horsepower and torque numbers
actually thats a 40,000 lb sled hes pullin thats a lot of stress on that
u-joint stress+metal=heat which is why its smokinthey build those truck
with diff u-joints, driveshafts, axles, ect. just some parts cant take the
stress
NEWS for everyone that looks at this video we had truck tractor pulls at
out fair and there was a BRAND NEW Chevy truck that "pulled" and it barely
made it 50 feet and its engine blew so...sucks for you!
I bet that bearing cap was dry, hence the smoke. If the stock one was
replaced with a greasable u-joint, use high temp grease with EP additives.
And something that is tacky.
Dodge can't make a tranny or rear end to withstand the gas engines. So
using a cummins that actually has power equals a catastrophe...as proven
right here
that dont matter....it depends on who's drivin' that horse....we all know
that CHEVYS= LIKE A ROCK!!!
Dodge Ram 1500 lost drive shaft on highway
I uploaded this video with the title as the recall number (P77/NHTSA14V-796) so they could see absolute proof that I lost my drive shaft on the highway.
This EXACT same thing happened to me in my 2005 Ram 1500. My truck made
those EXACT same sounds: the driveshaft/rear differential was howling like
a ghost, then it got really loud right before the driveshaft fell off, then
BAM! the truck came to a grinding hault. It felt like getting rear ended.
They replaced my rear diff, but now my transfer case is leaking. The
driveshaft was hanging off the transfer case when it fell off and dragged
along the road. The driveshaft was also hanging off from the transfer case
when it got towed.
+rserzy Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep always had a reputation for bad transmissions. I will never buy another Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep ever again. Even after they replaced the rear differential and reconnected the driveshaft, I still get this paranoid feeling everytime the truck makes an odd noise. Right now I think the parking brake shoes and cables have seized which is rubbing against the inside of the rear rotors causing a drag on the rear wheels, and its making a similar sound to the one in this video everytime I'm coasting/deaccelerating but just not as loud/high pitched. Wish I didnt spend all that money buying aftermarket accessories 10 years ago: fibreglass tonneau, 3 amplifiers w/ speakers and sub, side exhaust, CAI, ... all adding up to $3600
+OVI-Wan Kenobi I have recently experienced a slow transition in the transmission. I have no idea what this is but when I put it into drive or reverse it takes a while before it will go. Like it has to build up pressure or something. I might have additional damage that won't be covered as well. I think my next truck will be something other than Dodge. They all have their own share bad luck, which one to pick... They all claim to be the best...
+rserzy I know that feeling. I'm afraid to accelerate the truck hard now even though it's fixed. Anytime it makes an odd noise now I think back to that same howling noise it was making before it broke off. My transfer case is still leaking, which I'm pretty sure was caused by the driveshaft hanging from the rear of the transfer case when it backed off the rear axle/differential. Chrysler has denied my claim to repair the leak on my transfer case. It wouldn't have took much to damage that transfer case which is only made out of soft aluminium.
+OVI-Wan Kenobi Apparently they knew it was an undersized bolt for a long time. I had to wait 4 months for the recall to be announced to get reimbursed. There really isn't a fix for it. My guy put a chevy bolt on it and said it was the correct size. I trust him but every time I hear road noise I think I'm about to lose it again.
