Great video this will come in handy when I swap out my cluster.
1996 Volvo 850 GLT dash lights
Today my dash lights randomly turned on while I was driving. The car drove and ran as if nothing was going on. They turned back off after a minute or so and a ...
I'll do that and get it tested. Thanks. But still not sure it's the
alternator. When the lights go on the power steering stops working. Good
thing this happens rarely. I sealed some small cracks in the plastic wheel
well area, thinking the water splash hits something. So far so good, though
not much rain. But yes, I'll test it with my voltmeter and see.
The alternator is on the serpentine belt side, which is the Right. What kind
of puddles are you hitting that go up into the engine bay? Goodness. Unless
you have a voltmeter, Just take it to any auto parts place. They can test
it for free usually. I know Autozone and Advance Auto will.
How did you know it was the alternator ? Since it's intermittent. My 850
turbo is doing the same thing...more so when I hit a puddle of water on the
right front tire...huumm ? ...that is the alternator side. Maybe I'll spray
it with water and see ...?
Yea that's what it was. The day after I made this video I got a used
alternator and had it tested. Put it on the next weekend and its been good
since. I'll have the old one rebuilt as a back up. I'm sure this wont be
the only time this happens.
The PS is hydraulic. No reason for that to go out when your lights come on
unless the belt is getting wet and slipping on the pulley, maybe. Perhaps
your serpentine belt needs to be replaced? Does it squeal on start-up or
anything?
