Things will change but things have to get ever worse sadly. Currently "They" can still keep up appearances by printing money and monetizing debt. They then take this printed money and buy people off. Printing money is a poison pill. It takes the pain away but eats away your internal organs Its going to end with a currency collapse. Until Then sit back do even less. you're right. The closest thing to real dissent lately has been the occupy protests. They used it for political gain, lied about the numbers, highlighted negative aspects of it to make generalizations, they made it out to be radical by highlighting radical protestors. So any attempt at overthrowing the government or protesting in large numbers will be met with the strong arm of the law.
