it's not necessarily the conditions the pets are kept in but more where they come from. Most of the small animals come from marshall farms, which is a pet farm. the animals all come from the same genetic pool, thus they have been known to have genetic disabilities. The ferrets are also prematurely spayed/neutered and most of the ferrets from pet stores are de-scented, which is an unnecessary procedure that stunts their social maturity and harms their over all health. The cages are expectational.

@eXcite8D its stupid what repersentatives think of rabies taking over forests wild animals dangerous why don't these people keep a ferret see how they ARE. FIRST OF ALL FERRETS HAVE BEEN DOMESTICATED FOR A LONG TIME SOME BELIVE IT WAS LONGER THAN CATS AND DOGS WHICH MEANS THEY HAVE LOST HUNTING SKILLS THEY WILL LIVE IN THE WILD FOR MAYBE 3 DAYS FOR LUCKY ONES. SECOND OF ALL THEY ARE NOT DANGEROUS THEY ARE PLAYFUL NOT DANGEROUS UNLESS IF BOTHERED. FOR THOSE CHILD ATTAKS PARENTS SHOULD KEEP AN EY

There's actually a website for tips on keeping ferrets in California (as yes they are illegal there, cruddy old laws are cruddy). Please don't mark this spam, it's relevant and heh it's not my site: ferretsanonymous[dot]com and it is also very useful for if you are even just DRIVING through CA with your ferret buddy. You can still get in trouble even if you live in another state. x_x I plan to live in CA sooner or later and I wants me fuzzies! XD

God, ferrets are stupid. I hope they stay illegal in Cali. And by the way, they're illegal not because the government fears reproducing and feral behavior, but because they aren't native to the area and could cause accidental problems to the environment. And, you morons, any animal can revert to wild tendancies. Just like a cat; if you leave it on it's own, it's gonna automatically know how to hunt. Fucking idiots and your goddamn rats..

@jinglejangle3214 Do a LOT of research. Understand that Ferrets MUST have at least an hour or two of your time every single day. They thrive on human interaction and insist you stop whatever you're doing to play with them. They are among the most friendly, fun and silly animals you will ever meet. Suggest you take your Mom to a breeder and have her interact with them, she might become a Fuzzle Fan too. Good luck. :)

Ah, so they were cheaper than I remember or on sale. Anyway, there are other ferret experts out there that would answer your question better about scruffing. I personally never scruff them but I know that scruffing them correctly doesn't hurt and can put them in a very calm and sleepy-like state. Vets do it all the time to make shots easier (I use peanut butter to distract them when they're getting shots.)

@LagmonX My female actually is immune to its effect and actually enjoys it. I sprayed her every time she tried biting on her cage bars to come out (she's spoiled, because my ferrets get 10 hours of play time out of their cage) and she didn't stop doing that until part of her one of her canines chipped off. I sometimes tap mine on the nose to get them to stop doing something I don't like.
https://gp5.googleusercontent.com/-QdAf9hDkngI/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/rVi5weBh7u4/s48-c-k-no/photo.jpg?sz=64
@LagmonX Not really. They smell because of the oils they secrete through their skin. Excessive bathing causes ferrets to replace the moisture they lost with more oils, making them smell worse. It barely has anything to do with how clean a ferret is (the scent they emit). Whenever my hob (male ferret) tips over is litter box, I discipline him with a spray bottle and a few harsh words.

@mcnallyrd3 Just gotta know that they can be mischievous, and make sure you don't have other small animals interacting with them because their predatory instincts go off. They can kill animals up to the size of a rabbit. Small dogs (under 10lbs) can be seriously injured when playing with ferrets, as ferrets, for their size, are pretty tough and play rough.

Dude, Meaniemae, calm the fuck down about it. They're *animals*. Did you have some form of bad experience as a child or something? And everyone who owns 'goddamn rats' are "fucking idiots"? You're basically labeling and judging hundreds of people because *YOU* obviously had an issue with them as a child. You need to chill out about it kiddo.

@FzDarkStaR At my petco it is $139.99 but it changes with the amount they have and how old the ferrets are. If you live close to a ferret adoption agency I would go there first. They typically will work with you to adopt a ferret for cheap ($75 at the most) with pairs even. I've even heard how they will give away supplies. Hope that helps.

Self checkout at a New World grocery store in New Zealand

Do not use the self-service checkout, you are saving the supermarkets billions in wages why? Wise up, if they are not paying you do not do the work. Unless it is a charity. Only a moron will work for free.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-irNsuOCp62Y/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAf4/4DOISyfMP2o/photo.jpg?sz=64
We have to think why? Machines have been replacing people in the workplace for decades, how long will it be till the machines replace the majority of us.

+Bree silver The example I provided seems clear enough: Prior to the Arab oil embargo almost every gas station I went to would have an attendant who would check my oil, wash my windshield, and fill my tank with gas. Now, of course, those practices are almost nonexistent. So, obviously, that means less workers at the gas station - very similar to what's going on with self-checkout at the grocery store.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-irNsuOCp62Y/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAf4/4DOISyfMP2o/photo.jpg?sz=64
Does not make what right, please elucidate.

+Bree silver You bring up some good points. Although it does not make it right, there have been countless examples of automation and customer self service practices that have put regular workers out of a job. I am old enough to have experienced, firsthand, people filling my gas tank for me at the local station. With the exception of places like Oregon (where it is required by law) nobody has filled my tank since the 1973 oil embargo. The one thing that has not changed, since then, is the huge army of sports heroes, movie stars, politicians, teachers, and other government employees who receive a lot of money for doing very little...

Companies that use chicanery on people to make them work  for no pay is unpleasant to me. I use the  word moron to makes people realise what companies are doing. Cashiers will become obsolete, by using self service people are tacking a wage away from someone. Don't be fooled into thinking the companies will pass the savings on to the customer, in the long-term the only ones that will benefit is always big business. The future may be stores that only have shelf stackers, and security guards on the doors. What word would you like me to use that has the same meaning.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-9T0ss_6BOSk/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAACQ/OE_PC6X3YsU/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Bree silver You are correct about the literal definition. Nevertheless, in the vernacular it can be very unpleasing to the ear to be called a moron...
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-irNsuOCp62Y/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAf4/4DOISyfMP2o/photo.jpg?sz=64
+zeekzilch I was not name calling. Origin of the word moron [From Greek mōron, neuter of mōros, stupid, foolish.]. People today do not know the meaning of words. Only assume, working for no pay time and time again and enjoying it is not a mistake, only moronic.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-9T0ss_6BOSk/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAACQ/OE_PC6X3YsU/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Bree silver People make mistakes - there's no need for name calling.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-irNsuOCp62Y/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAf4/4DOISyfMP2o/photo.jpg?sz=64
Only a moron would think working for free is awesome, people with brains let others do the work for them. But then a moron would not know that. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha

Self checkouts are awesome. You have to use the self checkout rather than going to the cashier.
