I just returned from an 11,500 k. (approx. 6,000 miles) trip in 17 days
thru out the western US from Bellingham to Tombstone AZ. and every where in
between with a buddy, he was riding a 2012 Goldwing When our speeds were
consistent at 60- mph our mileage was at par, when our cruse speeds were up
in the 80's to 90's I would use about 1/2 gallon less on every fill up, we
generally filled up at 1/3 tank, I was amazed at the difference and he was
kind of pissed LOL
So I wonder how much does this help the bike. What is the change in HP and
torque and what is the change in gas mileage. Every time I look in to
increasing the power of the Wing all I get people say way. For me why not
its a cool bike that can do more sence the BMW 1600 had HPs are in the 160s
to the wing gl 1800 only in the HP in the 100s. Good work on the bike man I
would love to know what it take to do this.
I have done nothing to the motor other then add an AEM fuel management
piggyback comp, I retarded the timing .3* per lbs of boost and 40% more
fuel at 7 lbs of boost The wing is so responsive that I hardly ever see
boost, I might see 5 lbs on a hard run but hardly ever see or need that
much, when on the highway at cruse speed there is no boost needed and less
throttle is required to maintain speed
I'm using the stock injectors and fuel pump, so the turbo is a nice
reliable addition, it makes the wing feel like it has a 2.6 ltr engine and
I love it I now have more then 60,000 trouble free miles on my turbo wing,
to date I have had no issues at all The first kit took me 7 months to
develop and the kit will cost $9.000 installed in my shop,
Its funny you should say that, the new Goldwing is an ingeniously designed
machine, it was designed with exceptional handling and to perform well
while providing the utmost in comfort and luxury, The gl1800 is rock solid
at 120 mph, There's a good reason why old men by Gold Wings, They are
smarter then the young bucks who ride sport bikes :)
Young bucks who ride sport bikes are completely aware that sport bikes
aren't nearly as comfortable as Goldwings and other touring bikes. But it
doesn't matter because we don't ride for comfort. We ride for the
adrenaline rush. And no matter how much you modify a Goldwing, it will
never perform at the same level as a sport bike.
I'm gonna assume that you are also 1800turbotech. I really don't know
whether or not you knew that a Goldwing was or wasn't capable of sport bike
performance. Now that I know that you know that they aren't, why would you
consider old men who buy Goldwings smarter than young people who buy sport
bikes?
im 65 4 heart attacks and a defib pacemaker.I ride a sportster to the bars
and when i take the wife its the 2004 wing. I cant hold it up so it has a
voyager kit. If i dont hit 100 every week i feel disappointed. This bike
screams u just have the balls to ride it.. I want the turbo kit.
@1800turbotech in reality you have the same chance of getting in a wreck as
a kid on a sport bike. that factor goes up by being stupid on the bike.
going fast pushing the bike beyond its limits. I want a sport bike but I
dont plan on going 100 mph(often)
Wow, thats crazy, you should take that to a hot spots where sport riders
are, I bet everyone would be totally surprised haha, especially with that
little barking launch. Is 120 the topspeed though? Is it limited to 120?
I'm 46, I can't ride sports bikes as they're so uncomfortable. Yes my back
kills and I'm not old. Thats why I ride a touring bike, sit up and beg, i
bet even young guns get off em aching like hell.............
