First time parents often don't know how to raise their offspring and they
die due to incompatance. The chicks do just fine with placed back with
their own species and thrive and they themselves become good parents. They
are endagered due habitat distruction, over fishing and pollution... every
baby counts!
On what basis are the volunteers selected? I think this is a wonderful
educational and inspirational opportunity for anyone who loves animals, and
I am really glad to see the Zoo allows people who are not part of the Zoo
staff to participate!
@kribaby76 We can not say at this time whether we will post the actual
birth or not. That is a decision that will be made after it happens. Thank
you for your interest.
I think this is the same guy, Thane Maynard, who hosted "Animals in Action"
that was on the Disney Channel back in the late 1980's.
Feb 18th'11 : ML's Visiting Cincinnati Zoo
ML's very 1st time visiting Cincinnati Zoo.She's really excited. We had a tour for 5 straight hours. There, she finally saw the real animals, even fed them :).
Baby giraffe born at Cincinnati Zoo Monday
Maynard said the baby made a 6 foot drop to the ground when it's born, but quickly lifted her head to look around. In about an hour, she was up and walking.
