He couldn't really be any more fundamentally English. If you enjoyed it perhaps try some of the Fry and Laurie sketches or Alan Davies' early stand-up. They, similarly, could never sanely be mistaken for being American. But the US gave the stand-up world Bill Hicks and Lenny Bruce as well as Bob Newhart//Shelley Berman etc. But no one can forgive 'Roseanne'. urgh...

The great thing about this act is that he's using this crude humor, but he goes a step further. It's not a joke in itself, he later cleverly brings students' names right back around for another joke, and he does it in a way that's deadpan (which this act so obviously requires). If you're gonna use sexual innuendo, do it right, as seen in this video.

So. Fucking. Brilliant. It's just amazing how calm and reserved Atkinson can stay, pulling off the role of a strict school administrator while reading off those hilarious names - he's hilariously, absurdly in character, and that's why everyone loves him in that sketch. This is still gonna be hilarious in 10 years. Whoohoo!

I had the tape of this concert and after seeing it a number of times I tried doing this routine, just to myself out of boredom. I managed to get all the way to Imadick, before I burst out laughing.
