@atomicshark That is it right there... I remembered getting my Cobalt new,
and wondering where the boat anchor was attached. It started to get peppy
around 30k. My brother's Cobalt sedan feels a lot quicker on the lows and
mids to my coupe. He has 95k miles on his. I have driven many times, and
wondered why his was so much more responsive on the lows and mids. I watch
all these vids of 8-9 second runs and wonder why some are much slower than
your Cobalt. I am sure these motors need broken in.
@Mike85220 Someone on the Cobalt forum said the computer program does not
allow for spirited driving until it hit a certain mileage as there was a
breaking-in period. I cannot vouche for this at all. Another said they put
these motors together with tight tolerances. Once they loosen up they start
to get a little quicker. I cannot say this is the reason for certain, but
everytime a low mileage Cobalt videos a 0-60 run, they hit 60 around 9
seconds, not 8 like yours. That is a big difference.
@mustangmikeca have you seen how bad the plastic looks in the 2012 civic?
The magazines are saying a hyundai looks better. Dont think you have much
room to talk. And btw a 2.2 (H22) in stock condition just barely edges my
dd out (sad considering my cobalts an auto 2.4) Now an H23 5spd with
exhaust and intake I edge out by a car and a half at 90. So bring your
sisters hand me down car (your car) out and see how your shit talking mouth
does against an auto cobalt (it really sad you wont win)
@mustangmikeca Seeing as how your profile has an auto civics video Id say
the only thing pathetic is that even if its a 5spd it doesnt change the
fact youd still lose. Just makes it a slightly closer race. So your
pathetic attempt at putting down a car faster than yours is pure FAIL. But
its amusing that you keep trying. Its like a ricer flyby that gets denied
over and over. Tell you what. If your ever near stl chicago or kansas city
I will race you in my auto cobalt (daily driver).
@mustangmikeca this ISNT MY CAR in this video, your internet reputation and
all around coolness factor has been reduced by -10 points for attacking
someone who isnt the author of the preceeding video... my car goes
.2seconds faster than this so called for-mentioned civic so.... BOO YEA
BITCH! my internet greatness rating has been boosted by +5 points for
responding to said random comment and turning this into a "who can pee the
furthest" contest OWNED ROOKIE JUST ROLLED KID!
@Edgarwinter too bad it weren't me and my cobalt 2.2. I know how to drive
one, the trick to it is first get a roll on race and pull the shift to low
gear where your running in the power band, I beat all kinds of cars and
trucks including a 5.9 liter ram and a civic but met my match in a modified
tiburon, soon get me a chip where i can get rid of the rev limiter and do
some top speed run on the highway
yeah, i've got the same one. I like the accel. just wish i could get a lot
quicker 0-20. sometimes it feels reeeeeal slow at the take off. as compared
to my friends '06 mazda 3, which is extremely quick from the start but then
doesnt keep the pace throughout the speedometer. oh, and also, with a
proper launch technique, and brand new tires, i can get about 7.4-7.5 0-60
in my 2008 2.2l 34,000 miles.
I wonder if it is thanks to the new fly by wire system and the fact the
motor is a 10:1 compression ratio. That is pretty high and when running 87
octane, is pushing it. I bet the fly by wire even though you have it
floored, sends a signal to the throttle to open up at a rate to prevent
ping and detonation. More air coming in probably makes the computer just
compensate even more.
@drudawg911 Hill climb requires torque there chief. The Rabbit/Golf, which
is probably in the same class, has 177 lb-ft of torque which is reached at
4,250 RPM. The Cobalt has 150 lb-ft which is reached at 4,900 RPM. Yes,
there's a weight difference, but the torque to weight ratio is higher with
the Rabbit/Golf. So I have a hard time seeing it kill a VW in a hill climb
any day.
@mustangmikeca 2.2 eco's don't have valve timming the only one that does is
the 2.4 and that isn't even designed for top end performance. And no one
cares about crank horsepower whp is the only thing that truly matters.
Point is vtec is the gayest thing in the automotive world its all of the
lag and none of the boost. It's just a wannabe turbo feel for wannabe
racers.
@hwhhww You'd be surprised what people do with vehicles to impress someone
they don't know. The Cobalt has respectable performance for a compact car.
Not a lot of power ,but you can take out any other compact sedan in the
market. HOLY SHIT, more like 130-135 ft lbs at the wheels! With a better
exhaust and a Cold Air Intake you can get 15 secs on the 1/4 mile. Not bad.
I hate my cobalt.. im too big to live in it and its too big to eat.... does
anybody want to trade for it? its a 09 lt sedan with neon lights plugged
into the cigarette lighters :) ill consider trading for a home, a Scion XB,
or a ham sandwich. Serious Inquires only..only because i have to pay by the
minute at kinkos. those dirty bastards!
@Mike85220 I do know that the 2.2 Ecotec takes a while to break in. It is
very slow when new. Mine took at least 10k miles to start showing any signs
of waking up. I have 40k now, and it is as quick as it will ever go which
is about 8 seconds 0-60. I worry about adding bolt ons as all the videos on
Youtube seem to indicate slower times.
@coupe3kgt you are sort of correct. my mistake its actually about .75 to 1
second faster. i timed it with a timer instead of counting in my head so i
counted a seond faster in my head. but i didnt time it when my engine is
below 195 F. when im going somewhere, usually far distance my car will hit
200 F and thats when i time it.
@mustangmikeca Tell you what. If your ever near stl chicago or kansas city
I will race you in my auto cobalt (daily driver). Will be down in texas at
the beginning of june. So could even do oklahoma or texas as well. I mean
your ULTIMATE COBALT KILLING CIVIC wouldnt have an issue beating an NA auto
cobalt now would it?
@mustangmikeca lol my cobalts not .5L bigger than your civic idiot. And
your talking shit on the 2.2 cobalt so you obviously have enough to beat
it! So whats the problem? Your the kid of idiot that would talk shit at a
car meet then get the crap pounded out of you for not being able to back up
what your preaching!
@mustangmikeca Seeing as you dont have a prelude that doesnt matter. Lets
see your civic race a 2.2 cobalt. or a 2.4 cobalt or a 2.4 G5 Gt or an
SS/SC or an SS/TC. You say all these cars are junk so by all means then
your 1.7L automatic civic should have no issue beating a junk car right?
@reidladam Why do you consider 8 seconds to 60 slow for an economy car?
Yesterdays 4 bangers were hitting 60 in 10-12 seconds. The 2.2 Ecotec has a
lot of potential. In other words it is an inexpensive car with a solid
motor that can be modded to be a lot faster than most 4 bangers.
@drudawg911 so you mean cobalts get their full 152 ft lbs of torque (at
crank) at 3600 rpm? thats like 110 to the wheels! HOLY SHIT THATS A LOT!
these things run 16.5's in a 1/4 mile if you're a good driver. who does
hill climbs anyway lol DUDE lets race on top of a hill!
@mustangmikeca well considering your last 0-60 time you said was horribily
off im defeintly not gonna believe that a prelude is gonna beat a cobalt.
how you even came up with such a horrible come back idk, apparently you
realized civics suck so you had to try a new honda!
The best time for stock I have seen for the 2.2 Cobalt coupe is 7.97
seconds. Seems like most people are hitting 60 in 9.5 seconds though. Here
it timed out to 8.4 seconds. But what is interesting, the others hitting it
in 9.5 seconds have an intake, exhaust or both.
for 2.2l auto cobalt owners, try this (if you don't already know about
this) : at around 25, put it in "I" and floor it, reeeal nice punch. and
also around 65-70 through it in "L" and floor it" very nice as well.
(regular "D" will not shift down at that speed)
@mustangmikeca well dumbass you didnt prove shit cuz ur pea sized brain
cant comprehend that im talking about a cobalt and not a G5, idc if they
have the same engine, there's other factors that go into speed, but you
probably didnt know that dumbass
@drudawg911 even an old audi 2.8 would destroy this. and up against a 3.0?
no chance, the 1.8t gets full stock spool are like 3400rpms not to mention
there absoulute torque monsters...and add a chip boom 200-215hp and over
250ft lbs of torque
I forgot to mention, since the engine detected too much air coming in, the
computer most likely took action and is why your 0-60 was so slow. AEM and
K&N intakes throw CELs randomly. The newest 2 piece Injen has a very good
track record of not throwing CELs. They seem to be the only company that
tuned this intake to deal with the air sensor limitations on the Cobalt.
JET makes an air sensor that compensates for this common problem. A
Trifecta tune is also another option to get rid of this prob.
Your an idiot diver362. Slalom has absolutely nothing to do with
horsepower. Its about suspension and handling. The camaro has full IRS and
IFS, the mustang has IFS and a Solid rear axle. (For cost and simplicity).
To put an IRS suspension in a mustang if I recall would cost roughly $5000
per car. More complicated too. You have to remember, the mustang is also
much much lighter than the camaro. Not that I don't like the camaro, I do,
but I like the mustang and challenger too.
@mustangmikeca did u forget about all the thousands of layoffs Ford did u
dumbfuk... plus you cant measure the quality of a ride through the
company's profits just means they spend their money more on building a
better car... Ford has always felt like cheaper parts even in their
interior which is just as important... and the day i see a stock mustang
beat a stock camaro then maybe ill have respect for Ford but that will be
when "PIGS FLY"
I'm not sure why people think Cold Air Intakes make check engine lights
come on, on OBD-II vehicles. This car has something called a Mass Air Flow
sensor. It doesn't take days to adjust, it takes seconds to adjust because
it is constantly measuring air flow to help aid in the fuel ratio. Unless
you unplug the sensor or have a leak in the intake after the sensor there
is no reason the light will come on.
I love the check engine light. You are lucky you didn't blow up your car.
When the check engine light is on, I really don't recomend getting up to
almost 6 grand. Oh, and for others....it is a Cobalt LT....and that video
was sped up, cuz my LT will only do 0-60 in about 9....the LT's are not
fast at all, I will be the first to admit that one
Cobalt is not as cheap as people think , if a person whose never been in
one and mocks it for being cheap went in one, they would agree it is not
cheap, and its built to a well enough standard and probably even a higher
standard, as any other domestic sub compact car.
Now wait a minute in another video you were commenting on how a slower car
was able to do a faster slalom so the higher hp car sucked... Your either
learning or are just a massive douche. Either way your worthless and yet
another idiot commenting on youtube videos.
Chrysler has A LOT of catchup up to do. GM is getting there, but not quite
there yet. I have faith in the American Makers. Hopefully once the sales
slump is over and sales get back up to normal, it wont be so bad and they
will have more money to work with.
glad your good man hope you have happy holidays bud..hay i have a question
was that you on facebook as jeremiah white?? if not some 1 is acting to be
you i didnt think it was you cause i was told some strange shit and i know
you aint queer..lol
@rob82901 you do realize it depends on what the problem actually is with
the car. I used to whip my car around with the check engine light on,
because i had put a cai on it. xp Just because your cel is on, doesn't mean
you have to baby it man.
idiot those are different drivers first of all, 2nd, 2mph doesnt mean shit
all bitch. BTW ur 2010 mustang shelby gt500 does 69.3MPH on a slalom, while
a V6 2010 Camaro can do 68.2MPH thats a 240 hp dif so FORDS SUCK DICKS bitch
Your 2008 Civic Si doesn't really compare to a car that's cheaper, has less
power, and is an automatic. Let's call it for what it is. I'm inclined to
like the Cobalt more, pussy ass car or not, because YOU aren't driving it!
Seriously? Why ford? Ford quality? (lol) Ford's CLEAR ability to be faster?
(LMAO as if) or because they are the cheapest to manufacture and have the
best safety ratings? (Oh wait... that part is true)
@jacchevr You dumbfuck a stock 90s toyota MR2turbo, aristo turbo or a supra
twin can walk a cobalt in reverse ... lol you're a dumb bitch, don't talk
shit about one of the greatest cars in the world.
Sure. What about all the jobs of people that work for GM and chrysler? What
about all the parts suppliers that will go down with GM? All auto companies
get their parts from the same suppliers.
I think the 140 mph gauge is a bit much it will probably top out at 115
with the governor. I have an 08 fusion 3.0 V6 and the mph gauge goes up to
120 and I know it would smoke a cobalt.
@mustangmikeca Ha ha but a 2.0L Cobalt SS can still shit on a 5.7L Mustang
GT and Toyota doesn't even make a vehicle that can hang with the cobalt. So
you my friend, are a dumb ass :)
The new civic looks like shit, are you kidding? And the only reason the
resale value is higher is because there is public perception that American
cars suck. They dont suck anymore.
what does that have to do with car quality? Microsoft support is doing
pretty well and theyre like 99% outsourced to people in india making less
than your kid does mowing lawns
@rob82901 my check engine light is on and it's because of my charcoal
canister purge solenoid for the emission system. Don't think a check engine
light is always catastrophic.
How about this lets pit the slowest focus against the slowest cobalt. hhmmm
cobalt wins in every category. If you want to compare. Then compare apples
to apples...
@rob82901 calm the fuck down. minority complex much? this video wasnt sped
up, if it was the tacho would have made that obvious. his shit is better
than yours.
my cobalt lt takes 6-7 seconds to get to 60. its bone stock, just removed
air silencer/resonator, thats it. ill make a video of it when i have the
chance.
