Sex Work Just Got A Little Safer
"The New York Police Department will no longer confiscate unused condoms from suspected sex workers to be used as evidence of prostitution, ending a ...
When did it become progressive to view sex work/prostitution as "just
another service industry" rather than a horrible aspect of a capitalist
system that turns everything, including people, into products for
consumption?
I understand the argument for legalization/regulation etc. and agree with
most of it, that's all fine. However I'd argue for it in a way that
doesn't simply accept prostitution as a viable career option for people but
in a way that would hopefully lead to people not having to sell their
bodies for money; surely that's the left-wing progressive view on this
issue.......
:)
Interestingly put, I'm quite sympathetic to the idea that essentially all work is a form of prostitution - in my opinion however, that doesn't justify prostitution. That just looks to me to be a simple libertarian argument seems to turn everything into a commodity.I'm in no way a proponent of prohibiting or banning prostitution like we have now. I just think it's really weird that people are okay with prostitution rather than seeing it as symptom of a capitalist system that forces people to make money by any means necessary, that's allI completely understand you argument but not everything has to make money, sex can be about human contact/love/lust etc. and not a career option - that's all I'm saying.:)
builders sell their hands to build things. massage therapists use their hands to soothe sore muscles and knots. dancers used their feet to create dance moves and entertain people. why is it ok to use your hands (one body part) but not ok to use another body part. there is no difference between a foot, hand, bum. head, eyes and vagina. They are all bodyparts. if you want to argue that people shouldn't sell their bodies. then massage therapists, entertainers like actors and dancers and builders should all also be banned because they all use their body for their profession. as i said. no difference between a hand and a vagina. it's all bodyparts.
Even, as they said, "allow them to do it, but regulate how they do it," is quite extreme. Sex is a personal choice of how to use one's body, and I do understand wanting to prevent the spread of STDs and accidental childbirths, it shouldn't be looked down on as they are. This isn't a group of sick sheep that need to be kept in line.
Actually, legalization is NOT for the purpose of protecting the sex worker. It is a vice model that is most beneficial to brothel owners and forces sex workers to be beholden to them. Ana, do you think pimps are a prostitute's only issue? She may still be
unsafe because she's having sex with strangers. And one of these strangers
might decide to beat her or something. Just because it's legalized and
regulated doesn't mean they're safe lol. Why prostitution is illegal is to
KEEP them safe. It's like why cocaine is illegal, to keep the public safe
from all the bad stuff that comes from behind it. Ana... you sometimes just
disappoint me.
+types10000 That's because I have nothing against prostitution. But when Ana says it will make them "safer" because they don't have to go through the pimps, well, I have a problem with that because pimps are not their only issue like I stated in the original post. What OTHER benefits here? excluding money of course.
+hhmha1997"No, this statement applies to a 'profession' if dealing with clients has to be at either party's home..."- From what you have just stated it appears you have no logical argument against prostitution as a profession and are simply opposed to 'all jobs that involve being alone with clients'. I'll alert my cable-guy and pizza-delivery-guy to your disapproval of their professions.btw, if this specific problem will occur regardless of whether prostitution is legal/illegal then wouldnt it make sense to legalise it and capitalise on ALL THE OTHER benefits?
+types10000"that statement applies to pretty much any profession that involves dealing with clients."-No, this statement applies to a "profession" if dealing with clients has to be at either party's home or somewhere where nobody can see them. Other professions that deal with clients are usually in an environment where there are a lot of people and the client won't think about doing anything stupid.
People in any profession that deals with clients run the risk of 'a stranger deciding to beat them up'.You are incorrect, as this video highlighted keeping prosititution illegal is causing serious social issues and making prostitutes far more unsafe than they would be if it were legal.Cocaine is illegal because it's an addictive drug that can kill people relatively easily. ie. it's a genuine threat to social stability. Prostitution isnt analogous to this and there is good evidence that legalising it would mitigate negative issues associated with it (it's more like pot).
Brothels are be far safer in every way.
Regular testing and enforced condom use ensure minimal risk of STDs.(The
random person at the bar you just picked up has a higher probability of
having an STD)
Brothels have security for the workers which ensures no brutalization of
the workers. (Pimps don't give a fuck as long as you pay)
You get what you pay for and there are no unknown "no entry zones" that
will get you kicked out of bed.
The money you use on a date can easily surpass the money you would pay for
a prostitute, and a date doesn't guarantee sex, nor dose it guarantee a
next date, so there is no guarantee you will get a return on your
investment, but whit prostitutes you know exactly what you are paying
for.(Wheter it's food, alcohol and entertainment or cash, both are
prostitutes, but the cash one is guaranteed)
Long term use of a brothel will get you extra perks free wine, higher
priority, discount..etc (Depends on the brothel)

Space Shuttle Columbia Disaster Pt 2: Final descent - BBC

+Bunty M No, nothing to do with the media. As you will see on other video tracks he instructs the controllers that any and all communication is done on the open DIVIS loops, which is their com channel which is recorded, like a black box and as you can see, this video which was live feed at the time. The lock the doors is two fold. 1 secures anyone in the room, in the room, and is an instruction to the controllers to record the configuration of their controls at that time. nothing is to change, no buttons pressed, no switches, and screens are frozen. They are all jointly responsible but the Flight Controller is the boss. The thing with the media, they were/could have seen this happening at the time anyways.
+Michael Marach Thanks Michael, so its nothing to do with media I reckon ? Are they equally responsible for mission failure or its just the Flight Director solely responsible ?
A piece of foam shed off the main orange tank and struck the shuttle. This was shown to occur soon after the shuttle launched into space. They performed an experiment by launching an identical piece of foam, at an identical piece of material the shuttle was made of. It was shown that the foam was in fact, capable of causing significant damage. The damage to the shuttle wasn't an issue until the shuttle re-entered the atmosphere.
A piece of foam fell off the fuel tank during launch and breached the
Shuttle's heat shield. All of the thermal tiles began to fall off during
re-entry and the whole craft began to melt and break apart.
What really happened was that the foam hit the leading edge of the left wing. The reinforced carbon carbon panels are great at dissipating heat but are not good at taking impacts. The impact created a hole. The tiles were in affected and did not NEED to be damaged. With the RCC panel damaged, its nothing but green aircraft aluminum behind that. In fact, had it just been some tile damage, they may have survived reentry. STS 27 had the worsr tile damage ever seen on a Shuttle after the right side of Atlantis got hit by cork material from the nose cone of the right hand SRB.
+Jim Lahey Gotcha. So I was correct then in what I was saying. I've never seen that show so I didn't know it was a character's name and that's not you in your profile pic. I was waiting to see if you had any evidence to back up what you were saying - in which case I was looking for the evidence in order for me to apologize! However, I was correct - but you weren't being a troll about it by using a fake name and story! I've seen many documentaries about Columbia, but I gotta ask one final question that's been bugging me since the very beginning of your comments. It's kind of obvious that you aren't telling the truth considering that schools don't have classes on Saturdays. Especially elementary/middle schools. This event didn't happen during the week - it happened Saturday, February 1st 2003 at 7:59am central time. So no schools would have been in session for you to be walking to or in session to be on "lock down".
+Angela Clemons Angela im not really Jim lahey hes from my fav tv show Trailer park boys lol i am currently 24 yrs old i was very young but I remember it was a sunny day blue sky our school went into lock down
At 9am in the morning you were walking home from school?
Teacher Arrested For Showing 'The ABCs of Death' To Class
"A former substitute teacher convicted of showing a movie including graphic sex and violence to a high school class was sentenced on Wednesday to 90 days in ...
I watched the movie and still don't believe the woman should get jail time. If the school wants to fire her, okay. Send her to jail? Get the hell out of here. We live in a generation where 14-17 year olds watch porn and snuff videos on their phones (I used to work at a school, I know first hand). When I was in school (many moons ago) we were allowed to watch Kids and American History X back in the 90's. The punishment doesn't fit the crime.
Here's why she went to jail. According to the description box she showed "a
movie including graphic sex and violence." If it were just the violence it
would probably not have been a big deal. But when you're showing minors
graphic sex acts, that's a big problem.
This is just fucking stupid. At worst, she should've been fired for what
she did, but to arrest her? That's just crazy. I weep for future
generations if this is the direction our society is heading....
