It opportunistically aids the development of and then reflects our deepest insecurities and fears both from with in and without in multidirectional infinite regression and in this way becomes self sustaining and self perpetuating. It is isolating, divisive and pathologically Narcissistic. It is hyper-vigilantly self aware, and berserks when it perceives a threat to its existence. Attempts to eradicate it it with repression, denial, ignorance of its existence only deepens and solidifies it's strangle hold on our hearts and minds, hardening the substance of our Good Stuff around it trapping it and creating the illusion that it is an inherent part of what is self. It is therefore invested in making us believe that we need to expend our valuable resources in the constant struggle to evict it from our hearts in the endeavor to become "Good" and "Better". That is an illusion we are not meant to become aware of because it masks the most insidious machination of this dark, destructive force- the struggle is not one with a realistically attainable outcome of removal and liberation from its influence and the reality is that we wind up fighting ourselves in the form of those parts of us it has used and hardened round itself which now resemble the dark matter of its substance and hold it tightly fixed there and the chimeric "Others" it projects out on to a world it would have us believe we are alienated from and perceive as threats to our very existence. So the more you expend your resources fighting these reflections , to the negligence of Love, Beauty, Passion- creative human interdependent interaction - the more of You- your Good Stuff- it is able to co-opt and as your resources dwindle, being squandered needlessly, conservation, stinginess and fear of depletion and lack create additional brick & mortar for increasingly impenetrable walls of defense, further isolating and engendering fear...believing that it is a life supporting essential organ... This is a trick, an illusion, it can be vanquished but not at its level with its weapons because turning against it is now turning on our selves and each other... All we have to do is see through the veil of illusion just for an instant and then resolve to stop giving it the the energy of our opposition and refuse to take it seriously... It is not serious. It is small and empty and weightless and the only substance it has is that which it tricks us into giving it. Do not believe what it tells you. It cannot stay or have any power with out our attendance and consent. It cannot stand laughter or joy and it cannot stand to be ignored. It will flee in the face of joy, bliss, self compassion... Love is its antithisis and where there is love it cannot thrive...If we soften our hearts, let ourselves be truly tender and vulnerable and let our vulnerability be touched by others without defensive gear or reactionarily erecting implacable barriers, slipping back into the constructed duality of Us vs Them...
