+Demi Odugbesan It's a soft dough so I don't know how to do this without the pan. You can look for a different recipe that uses a stiffer dough that you roll and cut out the doughnuts and bake them.

+Annemarie Campbell if you don't keep buttermilk on hand (i don't because i don't use dairy), you can also add a little vinegar to your milk and let it sit for a few minutes to curdle.  that can replace buttermilk in recipes like this.

ahh maybe thats why they haven't been turning out as well as I wanted them too will pick up some today so buttermilk is best?

You will not get the same result by using milk. The acid in buttermilk is needed to create a puffy, airy, doughnut as well as a better taste.
