interesting question...over the CTS, yes probably. Over the A6, I'm not sure. It`s a slightly different `style` of car, more reserved but very solid with a great engine (V6 supercharged) and great tech. The GS is more dynamic looking, and offers more power by default than the 2.0L Turbo unit from Audi. Base vs Base, probably the GS. However, with the A6 you can get more power with the V6 (or even step up to the S6). Lexus will answer back soon with a GS-F, which will be a must buy, if you can afford it. Ultimately, do you prefer German engineering, or Japanese engineering (or American engineering)? Which design language do you like? The GS offers a great package at a great price. The Audi will get expensive.
A Lexus vehicle has a lot to offer in terms of features, performance and luxury at a very good price versus the German manufacturers. The IS and GS are excellent handling vehicles. They may simply seem a bit 'softer' than the German counterparts, but that can be a good thing. The GS has a ride that would still be soothing yet sporty 10 hours into a road trip.
get a used Acura TL, which has the same performance times, the best AWD
system, is just as good looking or IMO, better looking, and just as
reliable. So why get the Lexus? Just because it's a slightly bigger name?
How, because this is a new IS model? Have you seen the inside of the TL? It's very nice inside, plus, Acura's AWD system is considered to be the best in the business, when did anyone say anything about Lexus's AWD system? Honda/Acura is just as reliable as Toyota/Lexus is and I think the TL is better looking then the GS is too. Not that I don't like the GS or would turn one down, but they're equal. Equal in HP, equal in performance times, equal in reliability, so why buy the new car? Because it's the new model? You can save $10k just buying a used TL with low miles and get just as good as a car as the Lexus is. I'd rather have the TL SH-AWD.
