As to France's social programs, I could write an essay regarding how stupidly short-sighted their health care system is and how their irresponsible participation in the inflation of the Euro with Germany has aggravated the economic distortions resulting in no revenues to pay the care workers who are needed for in-home care. Second, Canada has a higher tax rate than the U.S. ( I can't believe you made that idiotic statement). P.S. - Iceland's collapse can be attributed to a number of factors, including really bad fiscal and monetary policy not necessarily related to income taxes. Just as a general note, all of these Scandinavian countries that you love so much and claim as bastions of your ideal socialist state cut the top rates of their respective income taxes between 1979 and 2002 as noted by Alan Reynolds. The reason why these socialist countries did this is primarily because they took note of prosperity occuring in other countries that had accepted at least some of the supply-side model. Considering that I was taught the Laffer Curve in my economics courses and that notable figures like Krugman and Keynes (people who have influenced your source material) have referred to it or parallel concepts dealing with the relationship between revenue and tax rates, I must again call B.S. here. Any economic model is subject to criticism and suppression by ideologues posing as teachers, that speaks little to nothing regarding its relevance or accuracy on a given issue.

Not to mention unless the rich have all their money in cash under their bed, they create more wealth for everyone. They either invest it in businesses that hire people and offer goods and services. Or they put it in the bank so that people can get bank loands. And with bank loans the additional wealth created isn't just equal to the loan amount because the money multiplier.

Exactly, to do business you also use infrastructures: roads, rails, communication networks, airports and other services that you didn't build. a lot of the debt was not accrued due to miss mangagment in the banking sector that was aggrivated by the repercussions of the american subprime loan crash. Money had to be spent in many places to save banks, and other large buisnesses as well as attempt to stimulate the economy to push through the recession. It is important to note that the top 1% meanwhile have been getting richer and whilst this tax band is perhaps a little too high, the rich should pay more than the rest.

I'm not unemployed but I have a job payed the minimum wage, OK? ~1000€/month. My rent is 700+€, that's 70% of my salary, of course it's fair that I'm not taxed on my income ! Ambitious French leave the country at the age of 18 to get a proper degree that the world respect, or a masters degree later if they are cautious.
