Here is a better question, why are fraternities and sororities called Greek? The tradition is American and the names are Latin coming from the words "frater" (brother) and "soror" (sister).

Fraternities exist in more place than just America. As a Canadian and a pledge of Kappa Sigma, this video failed to shed light on the volunteering, community service and fundraising that is manditory. Also mant fraternities including mine banned hazing.

as a foreigner whose country doesn't have this system, i find it ridiculous. so you have to be hazed, bullied, physically and psychologically abused AND do that to others to get a more attractive resume in the US? that is just ridiculous at a level i've ever seen in universities and a country's tradition in general. i'm just so glad i don't see this where i am. #murica
