Most believers at one point in our lives will suffer from depression. What if depression is not a chemical or physical effect, but an attack from the enemy? Science ...

It sounded like you were using it for Dr. Anderson.  Just wanted to clarify.By the way, no idea what GBU means.  No need to get mad at me.

Well, capital H is meant to indicate it's no mere human I'm talking about, don't you do it that way ? GBU !
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-imTOIMiyjAQ/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABI/3jIiJ__BfOY/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Miracle Inprogress I think you meant by God's Holy Spirit. And his teachings as in Dr. Anderson. No capital H necessary. It belongs to Christ Jesus. Him to Whom all credit is actually due.

There is very little is this speech which applies to the title. This speech should be retitled as it is very misleading.

+Elisa K. Oh, ok. No that's not what I meant. It just seems not enough about Jesus or how to over come depression and too much self promoting and anecdotal examples. Which provides for good listening, just not a whole lot of substance in relation to the title.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-imTOIMiyjAQ/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABI/3jIiJ__BfOY/photo.jpg?sz=64
+KatherinVIIYou never explained why you find it misleading.  So I am assuming you are not christian. So to you it would feel misleading to hear a christian message about overcoming depression. If you wanted that but not with Christ.

+KatherinVIIThat it's only for christians you mean? Well, when you see the word Ministries in the name, it should have been obvious. Not everyone is an atheist or agnostic.

I watched 17 minutes of this and was saddened by the comical stories and the laughter from the audience. As a bipolar person on helpful medication for decades I find this reprehensible and insensitive. To see the feelings you have on a daily basis reduced to comedy is painful and a reinforcement that non-affected people, for the most part, just don't get it. We're not "depressed" in the way you think you are when you stub your toe in the morning. We're depressed in the way that somehow makes us feel helpless and hopeless every single day and this kind of "discussion" just reinforces that for us. The misunderstanding of this affliction continues to this day, in July of 2015, and will plague us far into the future. And that's the exact reason that we do our best to hide it from everyone in our lives. And, if you know someone who is clinically depressed, NEVER ask them if they've "taken their meds today". It's dismissive of the genuine emotions that we have. And we have them just like you do. Just to a greater extent.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-imTOIMiyjAQ/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABI/3jIiJ__BfOY/photo.jpg?sz=64
+DukeStarbuckleAs someone who has an emotional disorder. I didn't see anything meant as dismissive or insensitive. He was using a sense of humour, meant kindly. He even says the church is deficient at helping. He is acknowledging the truth.I have cyclothymia, a milder version of bipolar. And I've met people who are dismissive and insensitive. And yes, of course, Dr. Anderson can't speak as someone who has it.From the way you are speaking, I can see you that you are not aware. And I've been there. Feeling like nobody truly understands. Usually that means that you are remembering unconsciously, your heart wounds and that's why you are speaking as you are.I've been there. It's not easy. Just recently I got caught up in it again. And my negative self talk and bitterness/unforgiveness at people failing to be understanding. Or acting like they are scared of what I have. Or just uncomfortable. Or just pretend nothing is wrong with me and never willing talk about my issue truthfully. It irks me to no end. But after I calm down. And use all the stuff I learned, not only from Dr. Anderson. But after going to a ministry program. And a secular DBT program specifically for my cyclothymia.I didn't find the two types of antidepressants I got prescribed helpful. Tried it for two years. Dosage up and down. The two doctors I had were insensitive and not helpful.I prefer to fight with my heart, mind and soul/spirit. And doing proper self care. I don't always do it perfectly. And I have times of feeling extremely caught up in my negative and self destructive point of view of life. But I prefer being fully aware and even though it's hard. I keep choosing of my own free will to forgive, though my heart still feels deeply and finds been around people who are truly insensitive a lot of hard work.Sadly, it is easier to isolate. But only those who have the emotional disorder know why that feels safer and it's necessary when nobody is neutral or helpful. And they all make it worst. Triggering the negative. Not truly trying to learn how to be gracious and gentle.Sadly, only people with emotional/mental disorders fully understand what it's like. But I found it's not safe to hang out too much with fellow afflicted. I have a boundary of not spending too much time with people like that. Also, was something taught in the DBT program.I prefer the therapeutic company of my three cats. Truly, when people fail. Kitties are the best.I already have lived through many times of wanting to end my life, but I was not overcome by the thoughts. I overcame them in Christ. His Love Endures Forever. His Love Never Fails. His Love Is What Truly Keeps Me Alive.

What Carroll says will work for most people who confuse real Depression with just feeling blue or tired or lazy or directionless. If you are truly depressed you see a doctor. Most people aren't truly depressed - they just need to take action. Action leads to new things. And yes, you can trick your mood by using your brain.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Harry Flashman Seeing a doctor requires "taking action." And the doctor will probably treat you with methods that require you to "take action," such as CBT, or even something as simple as sticking to a prescription and therapy treatment.Behavioral health isn't as black and white as "depressed"/"not depressed." Doctors will diagnose people as such because they need to define what they're treating, but in reality, there's countless variation. Some people may have more severe symptoms than others, to the point where a doctor diagnoses them as depressed, but in the end it's just varying degrees of a problem that comes from the same source, and the ways to address that problem will vary from person to person no matter how severe their symptoms.Plenty of people who have been diagnosed with Major Depression could help themselves by "taking action," as Carolla says; and plenty of people who've never received mental health treatment could take this advice and get nowhere with it. Everyone is different. But it's a reasonable starting point for someone struggling to help themselves.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Harry Flashman I have been severely depressed for the better part of seven years. There have been brief periods where I somewhat shake it, but it's always there. I never sleep, I feel suicidal often (though I realize I can't act on it, because I could not do that to my mother), I have lost jobs and opportunities because I could not get out of bed. Whether it was due to depression or because I couldn't sleep for days.  Anything negative that happens in my life, it immediately turns to self-loathing and self-blame. Even if it's obvious I couldn't have helped the situation. After dropping out a few times from college, at 23 I recently got through it and graduated. Despite accomplishing that, most days I cannot bring myself to apply to jobs for my career. I work a shitty job at a restaurant, that pays nothing... which I barely hold down and am admittedly bad at. I lost multiple jobs similar to this during college. I've fucked up by having my drivers license suspended and not having the money to pay the fees required to get it back. I've tried the "pick myself up by my boot straps" routine. I've tried therapy. I want to try therapy again, but like I said... I am strapped for cash. I have many friends where I am from, and from college. However, after I didn't get a job out of school. I had to go move to my mother's, she moved away. So now, I'm just a loner who stays at home when he doesn't work. I'm kind of just becoming pathetic, and I desperately don't want to be the loser still living at his mom's come my mid-late 20's. I'm intelligent, I have an education, I'm athletic, good enough looking... I have no excuse to be a loser, but I am becoming one. I don't know how to fix any of this. I used to workout regularly, and am actually still aesthetically in great shape from years of it. It never helped me much long term with my depression. Sure, the initial serotonin rushes were nice, but unless I can have that 24/7... it's not going to do much. I am out of answers... I have only a little spending cash and enough to split rent on the place with my mom. I sure as shit can't afford a psychologist. I don't know what to do, and I'm getting severely worried about myself.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-y0INqeqPBX0/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAk/Wz3zkEOubAQ/photo.jpg?sz=64
The only problem with motivation is that even if everyone tried their hearts out to be who they wanted to be, some people would still be unsuccessful. I work with people who have brain injuries and very low IQs, and bipolar. For them, if they try their hardest they will actually have difficulty maintaining a steady job. Another example would be a child raised in a horrible environment and a child raised in a fantastic environment. Now lets say they both are extremely motivated and work super hard to get ahead. Who will get further ahead? It would be nice if we could just try hard in this world and that would get us what we want. But why is it that soooo many people try so hard, but only a few manage to be successful. A lot of this comes down to many advantageous predetermined variables in our life. Last I heard about 90% of money is inherited in North America....
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-q9ogI-97opw/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAACc/Kag3y9RapdU/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Shaun Daskam (piperpilot26) That is a truly terrifying way to look at life, reason being... If you simply "hope" for things to get better they will absolutely not; well unless someone decides to stop by and hand you $30k. Listen, my life was torn apart, dependent on medications for a neurologic condition, divorced with my children taken by their mother half way across the country, with depression so horrific I lost my job as an actuary, YET due to the family courts, I was still forced to pay over $1,500 per MONTH to my ex-wife, with no concern with whether or not I can afford to see my children. Best of all, if I missed a payment I lose my license, go to jail, and stay there for 30 days or until someone pays the balance. I was absolutely terrified, couldn't even get up in the morning, paralyzed. I had PTSD, debt up to my eyeballs, I couldn't get a loan, couldn't even rent an apartment. Medical Bills piling up, I was losing it. There was no where to turn, I was literally being extorted by the gov't. How was I going to survive, be a father to my children, I was only 27 years old? First, I got a free book from the library, "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill, written in the 30's, it's message is JUST as relevant today. Most millionaires have ALL read this book. I had nothing to lose, so I followed the books instructions and teachings to a "T." It took NO education, no schooling, NO money. MOST IMPORTANT is a POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE. Don't tell me how hard that is, I lost everything, I had no reason to think anything was to change, but I had nothing lose, so I just gave in to faith that it would if I simply followed the methods in the book. Soon enough, I began meditating, just sitting alone, visualizing what I wanted in life, and sure enough, I HAD MY IDEA, I HAD MY INVENTION! But what's an invention without money, right? I mean, that's what +sharkshockey19 wants you to think. That because the "Bad" ppl with money, (NOTE: 60-70% of the Forbes 400 richest ppl in the U.S. are Self-Made), won't let you succeed, but that's crap too. If it's a good idea, ppl will pay you to build it, and THEY DID! I launched a Kickstarter Campaign with my 6 Year Old computer, using WIFI on Main Street in my "Downtown" district, and launched my campaign, I made $11,000 in 1 MONTH! Enough to purchase enough inventory to start selling my product. Now, I'm selling more product than I can make, yet I always stop myself when I get into my "Self-Pity Party," because the Second you start to feel sorry for yourself, telling yourself it's all bad... You can't do anything about it, the bad ppl won't let you be rich, you lose. You'll NEVER get anything you want with a negative attitude, in fact, when you look back on your life, if you're honest with yourself, you'll find a lot of negative mental attitude and lack of "DEFINITE PURPOSE," i.e. you don't know what you want in life. If you have a Positive Mental Attitude, a Definite Purpose, and you DO NOT QUIT! YOU WILL SUCCEED. PERIOD. IT'S INEVITABLE. I could go on and on about those who came out from the most horrific of circumstances to become some of the wealthiest, most influential people on earth. I like Oprah as an example because she embodies 5 of the things most people claim that if you have one of those 5 things you Cannot succeed... Oprah was literally dirt poor, without Shoes, African-American, born into a broken home, in the Deep South, and a Female; she is now one of the MOST wealthiest people on the Planet. There's nothing "special" about her story, she didn't just "Get Lucky," she didn't "Hope" things would get better. She had a positive attitude, no matter how horrible her circumstances, she knew she could improve them, she did NOT QUIT, and voila, with Focus and an idea of her Purpose she succeeded, ANYONE with a definite purpose, focus, and perseverance WILL SUCCEED, the probability approaches 100% as time goes on. The simple fact that you say "i hope things get better" is insane? Do you really think things will get better if you simply "hope" for it? No. You have to believe it, and then BACK IT UP WITH ACTION! ACTION IS KEY! Without action, all you have is hope, and no one's going to just hand you success, there's too many people out there working for it. That's not their fault, they just understand that action is key. I really hope you read that book, "Think and Grow Rich," +sharkshockey19 might tell you it's some sort of extensional idea, "Free Will," but that's nuts, right now, IF you want things to change, go ahead and sign up for a FREE Month Subscription to Audible.com, You have a computer so that's not a problem, listen to the book, do EXACTLY what it says, and you're life WILL change, NO HOPE NEEDED, only faith in your definite purpose. That's not nearly as complicated as debating the existence of God now is it. Just put one foot, or finger in this case, in front of the other and eventually you'll listen to that book. YOU DON'T EVEN NEED TO READ TO BE ABLE TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE! Talk about life circumstances, you don't even need to be literate to follow this PROVEN path to success. Hellen Keller, deaf, blind, mute, became one of the most influential people on the planet, circumstances do NOT make a shred of difference, in fact, it's OPPOSITE! The worse off you are, the more creative you can be, you have nothing to lose, and that' shwat it takes to really go for your dreams, the "golden handcuffs" are what keep our best and brightest from following their dreams, and why SO MANY of the richest, most successful in our country have SUCH humble, if not, torturous beginnings. Please, do yourself and favor and make a FEW CLICKS WITH THE MOUSE, and you won't have to "hope" anymore. The ONLY thing I can't do is take action for you, in this case, I must "hope" you follow my very specific instructions. Don't listen to that guy, I don't know what's wrong with him, but he's a CANCER! A CANCER! I don't know if they have something to gain by making you think you can't take control of your life, but coming from someone who was literally under the control of the Family Court System, LITERALLY, I couldn't lose my job, if I did and didn't make the payments they demanded of me, I lost my freedom. That's a scary thought, you do not to commit any crime, just fall short of 50% of the income they think you should be making and you lose your freedom, just as a murderer would. What could be more depressing than that? Oh, yeah, not seeing your children in over 2 years that's what. One last thing, my company has been so successful I've been accepted to "Pitch" my product on a television with OVER 8 MILLION VIEWERS every week. That's pretty amazing if you ask me, all in less than a YEAR! NO family money, not a dime to my name, only debt.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-zp13QG08keI/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAACE/stAjIy3Vr7o/photo.jpg?sz=64
+sharkshockey19 you'd help more people by using your wealth to start businesses and/or use your skills to teach others how to get their lives in order and to get skills. Listening to their sorrows and filling out govt forms for th heir free money doesn't really help them. Then their kids are going to do the same thing they do.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
It all depends on how you define success and failure. For example, imo, you cannot fail , even if you do not "reach your goal", if you never give up.And this is coming from someone who just realized, and trying to get through, depression.I also reject this idea that anyone can say anyone can get through something, just because they did. Not suggesting they cannot do it, but basing someones success on your own success is a bit naive, a bit arrogant.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-F3o0mL10pFM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAGs/se47-Iib75c/photo.jpg?sz=64
I really respect your point of view, as you seem very well spoken and come across as somebody who has an honest, well thought out opinion on the subject. It's people like you that I'd like to surround myself with.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-y0INqeqPBX0/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAk/Wz3zkEOubAQ/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Shaun Daskam Well you might be able to motivate yourself to make more money, but imo it will be because of something "in you"is different genetically speaking. Or your circumstances in your life would be different then someone else who is unable to motivate themselves. Unless of course the argument for free will is taken into account, but proving that freewill exists is like proving/disproving the existence of a God lol. My argument also has to be taken lightly, because this is more of a deterministic view, which is also an incredible challenge to prove/disprove.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-F3o0mL10pFM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAGs/se47-Iib75c/photo.jpg?sz=64
Now that I have to agree with. I guess I can only hope my financial situation improves.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-y0INqeqPBX0/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAk/Wz3zkEOubAQ/photo.jpg?sz=64
If we look at statistics though you are more likely to be poor when you come from a poor family. Exceptions don't disprove the impact that our upbringings have on who we become.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-F3o0mL10pFM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAGs/se47-Iib75c/photo.jpg?sz=64
Well if one tries to achieve a goal and they fail at it, then that is the best time to re-evaluate their end goal and whether or not their heart is truly in it. It never hurts to try, but one must be realistic with expectations in pursuing and achieving the goal they set out to achieve. For instance, If you're 85 years old and you finally come to realize that your heart is in health care and you decide you want to become a doctor, you have to come to terms with the fact that it may be too late to pursue that path, but there can be other paths that may achieve the same sense of achievement. In terms whether or not the environment you're brought up in determines your success, that's a touchy subject. There are always exception to the rules. I know kids who were brought up in very wealthy families with everything looking good for them, only to end up dropping out of school, becoming addicted to drugs and ending up a complete failure. I myself was brought up in a very poor family, and I used to use that as an excuse as to why I haven't achieve the same level of success as the friends in my life. But after wasting 13 years making excuses, I've come to realize that the only thing holding me back, is me. What a shame.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-y0INqeqPBX0/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAk/Wz3zkEOubAQ/photo.jpg?sz=64
I speak from example, because I am someone who has a lot of money, but I haven't worked nearly as hard as many people around me who are much poorer. This is why I'm in social work, and looking to give back what I inherited.

Your're really a good human being and honest soul, I feel like you describe me bro, I'm a Mechanical engineer but originally I was born with the gift of art in my blood, I lived the past of my life wrestling my worries and doubts that I'm way of being with the best of my talent professionals level, and even people in my contact circle who were telling me that Art is not profit gaining career (at least in my country Egypt, where people struggling to live humanely), everybody was telling me that Art always would be a secondary activity, not the career I should have, but as I said I've finally overcame this fight and have already studied art and graphic design and living my dream of life, and now starting my own career in art "I'm so much satisfied & my soul is living an absolute peaceful life" .. :)

+Mohamed Esmat Thanks so much. I felt like doing this video and having a human moment was so important even while on vacation. There are so many people struggling. People disrespect art and design, but they can't take a look around them without seeing it. The art in advertising is what sells products and services, when people start realizing that they will be less naive and dismissive of what we do.

Amazing inspirational speech and video. I graduated from a Tier 1 University with a bachelors and I have an associates degree. I went on tons of interviews were employers told me they liked my portfolio and attitude but I didn't received any job offers for months at a time. This video has really encouraged me to take accountability for my own situations and due something about it. Also I'm not trying to make this racial but it's nice to see an intelligent minority giving positive career knowledge in a world were job prejudice and discrimination is very real and can be a big blockade in landing a dream job.

Or you could get off those insidious drugs, and do what I did. Look into and explore natural remedies. I don't call them a "cure", although that's what they are, because usually it's something we should be putting into our bodies anyways. .I started with Green Drinks (Kyo-Green), Rhodiola, Glutamine & other Amino's, Vitamins C & the B-Complex. Niacin by itself cures many of depression. All these work WITH your body/brain instead of against like drugs. Plus drugs will only work for a limited time

I am so happy with Dr. Riordan's in depth analysis of nutrient deficiency in depression. If we suffer from depression we must be proactive and take the necessary steps to help in our healing by adding foods and vitamins that will elevate our mood. Many psychiatrists only push medication and that us wrong! If we are to help our hurting society the medical profession must change. Doctors should be permitted to prescribe vitamins to help patients that have not responded well to antidepressants!
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
My, my! Totally overlooking the obvious---a degree in psychiatry immunizes against every mental illness or disorder. Going on drugs is not the answer, getting a psychiatry degree is the answer, because then you are one of the Mature, Clinically Normative, Wise and Worthy Ones qualified to "evaluate" and "assess" others. So how come Dr. William Ayers, psychiatrist, failed to "evaluate" and "assess" the judge who ordered him to California state prison in September 2013?

Would someone, ANYONE go to Hugh Riordan's Wikipedia page and put some TRUE facts about Orthomolecular medecine!? There's a section entitled "Views and controversy" that basically says it's a fraud. Of course most of it comes from the Quak himself at quakwatch, Stephen Barret. He criticizes anyone who doesn't use drugs to treat illness. The man is in denial, and is an arrogant fool.

The fact that most Dr's will NOT look at nutrition is MALPRACTICE, plain and simple. They just want to push drugs, because that's what they're taught to do. And of course it's pure prophet. . .To these Dr's, you all should be ashamed. Thank God for people like Dr Riordan and others who teach us what truly causes depression and anxiety.
