I HATE the collegiate system! The snobbishness it fosters in its graduates
are the reason why CEOs think their working class employees don't deserve a
living wage! I lost my only two friends over college! I decided to get out
because I felt it was a debt trap and my family was already poor anyway,
and all of a sudden those two started treating me like some peasant who
wasn't good enough for them. It was heartbreaking! But I held out and now
I have a full time job that even pays enough that it leaves me with actual
disposable income, which NO college graduate has a penny of right now. How
ironic! I can help prop up our stupid consumer economy by buying stuff,
but the college grads who were supposed to be rolling in green can't afford
anything but their student loans! That's what you get for treating the
working class like serfs! Have fun being buried in debt, meanwhile I'll be
making money doing honest work!
Great points, but I have to wonder: go on any job board site such as
Indeed, and most jobs that pay decent wages require some type of Bachelors
degree (maybe associates, but usually BS/BA). To work in HR you need a
Bachelors, to work as an office assistant, you need a Bachelors, to work as
a hostess in a restaurant, I've seen jobs require a bachelors. I live in
NYC, a very snobby city (born and raised) so my experiences may differ from
others. It seems as though a BA/BS is necessary these days.
The lowering of our standards together with the pandering on both the State
and Federal level to the special interest groups with regards to hiring
practices is one problem. The government incentivizes the private sector to
hire people based on various tax breaks/mandates. Many businesses have
streamlined their work processes utilizing technology which translates to
lower paying jobs that are attainable with a high school degree. The
business models in many sectors are based on these concepts.
It really amazes me that people waste time complaining about the loan
system and how the workforce operates. I know that getting a job while at
university will be such a benefit. Firstly you have some sort of work
experience, And secondly you can start to work of some of that debt. How
about getting a job over the holidays? I know here in Australia that UNi
finishes around now, and starts again in march of next year. Think of all
that time that could be utilized for making some money! Life is t
You don't need college to learn a trade or a skill. All you need is the
drive and the determination to learn whatever it is you want to learn. Look
at me. I have a GED. I taught myself Photoshop, HTML, Javascript, jQuery,
Flash animation, ActionScript, music making... and so forth. I didn't take
a single class for any of these skills. All I had was a desire and drive to
learn. Today I am thankful to have a good job and a mortgage. Not bad for
somebody with a GED and no college education eh?
College is a scam, and here's why: Apparently, the average cost per college
year according to the college board is: 9k(mine was public and was 18k per
semester). Come on, the first two years of college were a repeat of high
school. Just more redundant bullshit work. Finally, years 3 and 4 give you
what you should have been receiving to begin with. For 9k on average per
year though? You could invest that 36k(4 year average cost) on the same
books and get an actual business going with that.
As a success myself, I can certainly tell you that college is NOT the
answer for everyone. Long ago we had apprenticeships. Blacksmiths taught
young boys how to forge horsesheos and wagon wheels. Today we have teachers
that instruct 30 students per class. Most of them may succeed in the class
but not all of them can get a job. We need to abandon this system and go
back to what we know works. Guess what I do. I draw cartoons and create
merchandise for them. 10's of Thousands of $ worth.
@Shimo04 *Sure you can get somewhere in this world without a college
degree* Well, at least you're being up front about it. I suggest some more
research, or in fact, if you haven't already, check out Youtube Channel:
DontGoToCollege *college graduates EARN MORE and are HAPPIER. So yeah don't
be a bum kids, * I do not wish to get into a debate here, but..how can I
put this? I don't know, I just find this part of your post contradicts what
I quoted from your post at the top..
Everything is online to learn from. You don't need to spend thousands of
dollars on a degree. I learned how to write a paragraph by teaching myself
from reading stuff online.I didn't learned how to do that in school. If
you're going to go to college , major in something like a doctor, surgeon
etc..we need plenty of them because people get sick and cant stand their
own appearance. Before you go to collage, go online first and then see if
need to go to collage. That what i do.
Going to college in a scam to keep people busy and create big salaries for
professors and bring revenue into cities. Many cities where there are
universities will complain that there is "too much drinking" yet they will
let bars move in on every block. Students are not getting prepared for the
real world. Many people that are getting in debt and are obtaining degrees
are realizing when they graduate that they can only find jobs that don't
even require a degree...
It doesn't help that all of our manufacturing and blue collar jobs are
moving over seas, so that makes the blue collar people out of work and then
the people who go to college who should have white collar jobs are ending
up working blue collar jobs. Everything is getting messed up. College is a
scam to keep people busy and to pay university officials huge unnecessary
salaries and to keep revenue coming into communities with drinking charges
etc...
I agree. College is a SCAM!! The only ones that benefit from college is the
administrators, executives, and then they sell this non sensical belief to
politicians and law makers, and yet this country keeps getting farther and
farther in to debt that it can not repay, while the rich people get richer,
the people who try to get jobs after a degree are faced with mounting debt
and an uncertain job future market. How fair is that?
And did you get a "good paying job" from all that non college work, or did
you brownnose, and be one of the privileged few who basically had a job
handed to you, or did you take a worthless certification exam that puts you
farther into debt than you can imagine, like a 198 dollar each test that
only updates once every 2 years? Give me a break, you sound like you are
one of the privileged few that had everything handed to you.
@Shimo04 You must work in the education industry. Those studies are
antiquated. I can guarantee you will not be happier having a worthless
degree and being 70k in debt. The US has the same number of jobs it had 25
years ago. Problem is, it has 35 million more people than then. Also, you
are hardly a "bum" for not going to College. Tell some roofer whos on a
roof at 630am on a cold morning he's a bum.
Well said. That's what I'm talking about, teach yourself everything you want
to learn. If you need books , you can find plenty free online or go to your
local library or book store. You need to learn how to be your own teacher
because you are. When you're in a classroom, it could be distracting.People
stop wasting your money on college. You're not sure if your going to get a
job when your done anyway.
