Before being rolled here, the steel has been annealed to very higher
temperatures. This makes it much easier to be compressed and molded by the
massive machines. It is above its recrystallization temperature so it is
much more malleable and the micro-structure of the steel is not affected by
the process as much. During cold working, the the steel would be rolled at
room temperature, and would require even more pressure and even larger
machines for steel of the same size. However, the resulting steel parts
would be stronger and have a better surface finish only at the expense of
being less ductile.
@WaterfrontBoss Hi there, this is David NC who maintains this site. I am
hoping to get Corus/Tata to send me more videos to put up here in the
autumn. If you send me the links to the ones you have made, I can Favourite
them on this site and add them to Playlists. Or use Sendspace or a similar
method to send the actual movie for me to upload. (PS, I am not paid to
maintain this site, it is funded by users clicking on adverts, so please
click as much as you like).
I work for a fab shop and I always wondered how some sheets of steel or bar
stock would be all wavey and others would be some what flat.(depending on
where it came from) But anyways it must be because the rollers may be egg
shapped or out of round. I am here to tell u it sucks making that shit flat
and straight. To beable to use it for other operations.
Amazing. Now think of what it was like back in the day, when they still did
half this stuff manually. I remember reading a book once describing piece
by piece how a steam locomotive was made, and a lot of it was pretty hands
on. And this was talking about the 1920's, when things had already advanced
a lot.
From 1900 we use the same technlogy for rolling or rotating. I have done
research on cam follower from last four years. I have different way to roll
or rotate shaft. I believe it is 80% more efficient. You can find my
prototype at my youtube channel or at mechanicalresearch dot info/
I guess the cooling process must go on slowly, otherwhise you might damage
the steel with tiny cracks that later can lead to a building crashing or
something similar. Just like it happens when you have, at home, a hot glass
pan: if you submerge it, it might crack all the grass.
I worked as continuous casting operator for a few years n have a few videos
in an Louisiana mill which was bought out by arcelormittal I'll upload them
soon since I seen someone n the comments asking about the casting now
working in the furnace so will have some others n time
I wonder if cold rolled steel is made the same way as the hot rolled steel
is seen here. No doubt the steel here becomes very hard and brittle when
quenched, requiring it to be reheated and quenched again at a lower
temperature if it's mild or low carbon steel.
I would love to go to a real rolling mill and see the noise and sparks and
general mayhem of redhot steel being rolled into shape! I did once, many
years ago... 40yrs actually... about time to do it again!!
i am studying in steelmaking process to be an continuous casting, furnace,
mill,etc operator i can't wait to finish my course.. i'm lucky..i live in a
city with big steelmaking industries
tricky business .. if mill stops .. hot steel will damage rolls ... the
show must go on. Also notice complicated looking cooling stage .. why not
just submerge cool? Tricky business.
I have been to Corus Ijmuiden last month, which was extremely interesting!
Most impressive was the "Warmband walserij" (hot rolling) though! What a
sheer mayhem! Beautiful!
@CorusBCSATraining Trust me, I work in a rolling mill as a maintenance
engineer. After a while the heat and noise gets to you. It's still pretty
cool :)
+Dinesh Kumar Thank you for your interest in RIDGID!This is not something we manufacture. We strictly bend tubing and pipe. There are manufacturers of tools that are designed to bend rod and other solid materials. Regards,RIDGID

Namaste Mr.Mishra, I am from Mumbai having factory in Maharashtra (Pune).
We make some refractory products like Ladle/ Tundish Covering Insulating
Compounds for steel plants used in Ladle Furnace, Tundish (caster House),
Ladle (Blast Furnaces) to provide fluxing and insulation over hot metal in
ladle and tundish without disturbing metal chemistry.
Sanjayji, you have compiled the total process and presented the same very
perfectly. We are a company having a manufacturing set-up for maling spares
for CCM at present we supply the same to various steel plants in India.
Flat steel bar can easily be bent into shape providing you have a decent vice and heavy hammer. For thicker bar you may need to heat the bar up, or you can cut ...
+Ultimate Handyman Just to let you know, I bought a big bertha propane torch/weed burner from HF today. Got that flat bar cherry red and it bent real nicely. I don't think a standard torch would have been enough though.
+Rod Dahl It's not something I have tried with a propane torch, so you will just have to try it and see. As long as the heat is left there long enough it should get it warm enough to bend it. Please let me know how you get on with it ;-)
+Ultimate Handyman I need to make 2 90 degree bends in a 3/8" x 1" flat bar.....would a standard propane torch provide enough heat to do the job? No access to a bender...just a bench vise and a BFH. Thanks.
+anaconda118 You are welcome.Sorry for the very slow reply, there was a problem with the YouTube comment system a few weeks back and I only saw this when approving another comment!
No, they never complain but I mostly do work in the workshop during working hours when most people are at work.I don't complain about their dog barking either ;-)
I was wondering if you could tell me what kind of vise I should get. I have
a tool shed with a workbench in it and I'd like to install a vise on the
workbench. Thx
+Jason DufresneThe chances are it will not be as good as an American made one but it might do the job you need and if it doesn't you have only lost 36 bucks.
For instance, I just saw a vise on eBay for $35.53 US dollars. 5" Bench Vise with Anvil Swivel Locking Base Table top Clamp Heavy Duty Steel. But it's made in china. Does this matter when it comes to a vise? Thx
Thanks for answering so quickly! There's this store in the US called harbor freight tools. They have vises for sale but I was told a lot of the stuff is cheap stuff from Japan or china. Could you tell me what 450 is in US dollars?
I'd get the largest Record vice available for the money you want to spend. Brand new vices are very expensive and the one on this video is about £450 so second hand ones are the best option. I bought mine from a seller on ebay for about £40

Skew rolling mill is widely used to produce high quality Hot rolling (forged) grinding steel balls, which is mainly used in the ball mill for Mining,Cement plant ...
amazing! can u also get the induction furnace and the cutting machine as
well. what size balls are they making, how many balls can they make in
1minute,how do u cut the billets...etc any answer?
+Steel Balls yes, we can help you get the induction furnace as well, 15-150mm steel ball can be made on this type machine, 30-150 steel balls per minute can be made on this type machine according to its size, you don't need cut the billets, you can use the whole 6 m or 9 m billet directly.
Hot Roll vs Cold Roll Steel.mov
